Baker Mayfield Getting Hurt Was A Good Thing?
December 5th, 2024Look, Joe fully understands nobody wants to see another player hurt. And no coach alive wants to see one of his players hurt, especially the quarterback.
But the way Bucs coach Todd Bowles spoke yesterday, it appears Baker Mayfield was too hyped for the game in Carolina last weekend and him getting stomped on by Jadeveon Clowney actually may have settled Mayfield down.
Bowles was discussing how sluggish the Bucs mostly were in the first half but added Mayfield gathered himself after sitting out a couple of plays following Clowney cleating him in the hoof.
“[Mayfield] getting hurt probably calmed him down and got him back refocused and recalibrated,” Bowles said. “He came back and he played a heck of a game coming back for us.”
Well, Mayfield is certainly a quarterback who at times is running at 100 mph. That, at times, may not be a good thing.
It was just weird to hear Bowles said how Mayfield got his head right after his right ankle got stomped on.

Yeah that first play back was SUPER focused

Sometimes coaches say the dumbest things
December 5th, 2024 at 7:30 am
After he got stomped and then AFTER he rushed back in on 3rd and 1 to throw an egregious interception?
Maybe it was that second humbling turnover that refocused the mind, not the injury?

It’s not like he was suddenly great after that injury. If it wasn’t for a heroic Mike Evans catch and heroic Rashaad White run on that last drive we probably lose.

AFTER that pick he was 14 of 15. Killed them two drives in a row
December 5th, 2024 at 7:47 am
I respect Todd Bowles, but that statement totally confused me. We don’t want to see our players get hurt and was he blaming our QB for it all?
That first play back was frustrating. Maybe it’s the hurry up and other players that added in putting the focus on the game and winning too, along with Baker.

Take the swedish nicotine pouches in the blue tent or locker room.
December 5th, 2024 at 8:29 am
If I recall didn’t Baker came back on the field and throw an interception. Maybe have the coach slap him in the face and calm him down a bit.

I was with you Joe until that 1st commenter reminded me of what happened when he came back in on 3rd and 1. Because I had forgot and had an open mind to what you were saying, I got a helluva chuckle!

So focused and dialed in that he threw an ugly pic on his first throw back. WOW…
December 5th, 2024 at 9:05 am
The only good thing about Baker being hurt is that it reminded us of how important he is……and Bowles’ comment reminds us how strange he is.
December 5th, 2024 at 9:07 am
Sluggish is as sluggish does, Coach.
December 5th, 2024 at 9:16 am
This may be, without a doubt, the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard Todd Bowles say while he’s been our HC.

Baker gets out of focus sometimes when he feels dissed, hit reboot then gets back on track…love Baker as a Browns fan he was immature but the browns didn’t help

After the pick 11 for 12, 114 yards! That is Brady-like.
December 5th, 2024 at 10:52 am
After watching that game idk how these qbs handle the pressure it was suffocating for me as a fan
December 5th, 2024 at 10:57 am
This guy is our head coach. At least he’s better at that than being defensive coordinator.
Yay team go Bucs.
(Facepalm)

Buddha please stop it with the Brady comparisons. There is nothing Bradiesque about Bakers career.
It was typical Baker like which has also been his career. He goes through periods of brilliant play then periods of what the flock play, and this also happens in games as well. The tougher the defense the worse the play. This is why some of us don’t completely buy into him like his Brigade boys have. At this point Baker is as good as he’ll ever be and and as he goes so will our record. Too bad for the Bucs we have Blowles Hoover defense that can’t compensate for for his periods of what the flock play

It was SUCH a very typical ‘selfish’ move by Baker to freak tf out like that, by demanding to go back into that game, & at that specific time. Then, he promptly throws a PICK. His own selfishness, is what ended up costing HIM millions of dollars, an extension in Cleveland, AND his team.

Fire baker!!!

We are lucky to have Baker. The problems during that game were not all on him.
MelvinJunior – Respectfully, the coach could have said no to Baker coming back in and didn’t. However, if none of it happened maybe we wouldn’t have won the game in OT either.

Mayfield is one of the best things that’s happened to this team. He’ll end up being one of my all time favorites, but he comes out to start games all jacked up. That 90 mile an hour fastball is hard for even Evans to catch sometimes never mind these smaller WR’s. When he tames those overthrows he’ll have more complete games.
December 5th, 2024 at 3:06 pm
Well again sitting w my Brown fan friend ,,, he said about his game , it was at least entertaining ,,, but he would still rather have Baker
December 6th, 2024 at 3:31 pm
Don’t knock on my Baker! He is just fine! That being said his team should know him by now on how he plays and be right there with him which for the most of the part they are! And for the Browns, they had it made with Baker and they screwed that up with how they did Baker, Karma is a Bitch! Anyway! Go Baker and the Buccaneers! You Got This!!! ♥️😊
