Baker Mayfield Discusses Prep For Stinking Panthers

December 26th, 2024

Preparation.

So Tuesday was Baker Mayfield’s day of the week to speak to the local pen and mic club. And he shared interesting analysis of preparing to play the Bucs’ last two opponents of the regular season, the Stinking Panthers and the slimy Saints.

If you read between the lines, Mayfield seems a tad more concerned about the slimy Saints than the Stinking Panthers.

Basically, Mayfield said, teams change over the course of a season, not so much over the course of a month. The Bucs beat the Panthers in overtime on Dec. 1.

“Sometimes when you play a team early in the year compared to – like our Saints game this year, we [played] them early, we play them [the] last game — sometimes you can change schematically,” Mayfield said. “When it’s this quick of a turnaround in between games with division opponents, you really don’t see that much.

“I mean there might be some personnel changes that could change some things. But really, it’s about the little details. It’s kind of like a Thursday night week of who’s going to execute better.”

Makes sense. The Bucs and slimy Saints are a different teams than when they played in Week 6. Joe wonders if the Bucs are already doing some homework on New Orleans for Week 18.

But if the Bucs don’t take care of business Sunday, they may not have to worry about the slimy Saints.

Baker, bro, sleep in a separate room and get some real shut-eye.

    Just win both.

Saints just lost a game on prime time by scoring zero points. Last night the Texans who are locked in scored 2 points (safety) in prime time. Bucs need to get back to fundamentals and wrap up on tackles since we already know they will be dink/dunk us like Cowboys did. Hope we can run the ball effectively also.

The Bucs need a better game plan, better play calling, and better play execution than the last time they played the Panthers. The emphasis should be on protecting the ball and controlling the clock. Let’s face it, the last game with the Panthers they were out played.

I have no idea what to think about this game.On paper, with our run game and Car’s poor run defense, the Bucs should dominate. However, this team is just grat at shooting itself in the foot and letting opposing teams hang around. Unfortunately, I can see the Bucs losing this game, because who knows which team is going to show up. We know this ,the offense better show up ready, cause the defense likely won’t.If Bryce Young looks like a hall of famer early, it could be a long day

@firethecannons – it’s hard to work on fundamentals when the coach keeps giving everyone extra days off every single week.

    Unbelievable says I agree

  8. JD Still Says:

Boy’s shouldn’t forget last time they beat the Panthers in overtime when the Panthers, already in field goal range, elected to try to get a little closer and messed up, I wouldn’t count on them making that mistake again.

  9. What Says:

Stinking Panthers? We’re on a win streak

  10. Randy Says:

Cant wait to return and have you eat crow…gonna be epic

I really can’t believe that they can’t fix the middle of the field short and midrange completions. Bowles acts like it is no problem but those passes eat up lots of yardage and then they hit them with a big one.
