Another Winning Season For Todd Bowles

December 29th, 2024

Has Todd Bowles done a good job this season?

Joe’s answer to the question is, ‘There’s one more game.”

The subject is explosive on social media and all over town. The Bucs have a 9-7 record after clobbering the Panthers today and the offense is humming as the postseason approaches.

But that final stanza against the slimy Saints next week is just about everything. The Saints have no quarterback and look like a team waving a white flag. They lost to the Raiders today in New Orleans. The Raiders!

Don’t expect Joe to moan or cry about a 10-7 Bucs record. No chance. But Joe might have a stroke if the Bucs can’t close out the season against a sadsack Saints team that already fired its coach.

Keep in mind the Bucs blew out the Saints in October.

Kudos to Bowles for keeping his team confident and steady — yeah, that includes the soft pass defense — and primed for a postseason run.

Any Bucs fan during The Lost Decade (2009-2019) knows just how stunning and special a winning season is — and how sweet a fourth consecutive Bucs division crown would be.

See you in 2025 Coach Bowles!

  2. Seminole Bill Says:

    Go Commanders! Beat Atlanta tonight

  3. Bojim Says:

Beat the Saints and keep up the momentum.

  4. Mike Johnson Says:

Great victory Bucs. But I still have no faith on Todd Bowles.

  5. Simeon4HOF Says:

    Let’s see what happens tonight

  6. Simeon4HOF Says:

    Offense carrying this team

  7. Miller5252 Says:

The Bucs could have won 12 or 13 games this year very easy. It’s all just a crap shoot on which D shows up and if the team shows up period. Sounds like Dean went out again today with an injury, sure would be nice to get this D healthy and a fresh Shaq going crazy for the playoffs.

  8. Zzbucs Says:

    Hard to understand Bowles detractors….

  9. Again Says:

Beat the saints and get the 18th pick in the draft. Warm up the jet skis and golf clubs. The bucs will start the off season early

  10. Buc4evr Says:

how many yards does ME 13 have after this game?

  11. HC Grover Says:

He shall return for more of the same next year…..hope his average does not catch up to us.

  12. MadMax Says:

We have a pro bowl QB, OLINE and RB AND WR….if it wasnt for THAT and COEN, we’d be maybe 5-12….

    just saying….

  13. geno711 Says:

My eyes saying that the offense is winning games this year. Thank god we got rid of Hainsey as our starting center.

  14. Simeon4HOF Says:

If we miss the playoffs his d and his hcoaching would be the reason.
Coen wins with this team today

  15. Scott Says:

Cohen is definitely gone at this point if we keep Bowles

  16. MadMax Says:

Coen stays…Jason and the Glazers know!

  17. #1bucsfan Says:

JOE my wife and I were just talking about how dark and terrible the list decade was. Terrible times. She always asked me why I was a Bucs fan and wasted my Sunday getting mad at the sorry Bucs lol. Now we are looking at hopefully 5 post season runs in a row. Let’s go Bucs

  18. Again Says:

Correct it will be either Bowles or Coen, not both.

Todd will be 5-12 without Coen next year.

Coen will be 12-5 without Todd next year.

  19. Miller5252 Says:

Coen is going to be hard to replace. Man, he has had a great year with this offense! If Godwin was healthy no one would any part of this offense. Even with Godwin out this offense has to be one of the best, if not the best Tampa has ever had

  20. Chris Says:

Fire Bowles and keep Coen and get a good DC

  21. Again Says:

From the 50 to the glass. GO BOLTSA. Love TB.

  22. Tye Says:

Bowels is one of the NFLs worst HC but for the second season a quality OC saves the Bucs season!

To bad the Bucs CAN’T play like that against winning teams…
another Season of mediocre team at best until Bowel is launched!

  23. heyjude Says:

A great game! Bucs were on fire!

Next week is a must win. Go Bucs!

  24. 1sparkybuc Says:

The Bucs would have 12 wins right now with any other HC/DC.

  25. Herbiebuc Says:

Mad max if you take that away from any team they will be 6–11 I’m not understanding your logic

  26. BuccoDav Says:

Has Todd Bowles done enough this season to return… The answer is NO. When the Head Coach is supposed to be a defensive genius, but the offense carries the team to the playoffs, that is a big problem.

  27. Davenport Says:

Barely. 500 isn’t cause for celebration. Neither is winning a bad division.

    Expect more!
    Bowles needs to go!

  28. HC Grover Says:

The Redskins are about to collect a scalp….Buc scalp or Chick scalp.

  29. firethecannons Says:

It should be better honestly. now we have to hope that Falcons lose–pitiful! but today was a great game by our Bucs

  30. Ben Says:

Could have easily won 3 more games minimum if not for poor coaching and in game management

  31. Durango 95 Says:

Liam Coen called another great game today. Unlike the headline on this article that is not a rarity.

  32. Not Again Says:

If Coen was coach and we had an average Defense we would be 13-4 easily

  33. Dom Says:

This offense is statistically comparable to the 2021 offense yet here we are hoping the Falcons Falcon in order to make the playoffs. That fact alone should tell you whether or not Todd Bowles has done a good job

  34. Hydra Says:

    “That’s my coach!” Baker

  35. Beeej Says:

When the Bucs lose: fire the coach!
When the Bucs win: fire the coach!

  36. Beeej Says:

I noticed the defense is getting it into a routine of giving up everything in the first half, then kind of sort of locking them down in the second half

  37. Pewter Power Says:

9-7 or 10-7 come on Joe’s you know what it is! That’s a winning “record” not a winning season especially if it doesn’t come with a division title, playoff birth or playoff victory. A simple 10-7 record is fine but you know he has to do more than just make the playoffs

  38. NY_Buc Says:

Todd Bowles has done a better job then the Joes have done with their BS GMing this year. I would appreciate an accounting of all their must get trade prospects and fire Bowles articles at the end of the year

  39. Buddha Says:

    1. Las Vegas line for Over/Under was 7.5. The Buccaneers have won 9 and more likely 10. That’s a win.

    2. Two fumbles wrecked the season. One at Atalanta; one at Dallas. I have no doubt Baker would have taken the team to a field goal in Dallas to win that game.

    3. The injuries to our linebacker, and third corner back produced a terribly flawed defense in the middle of the field and our pass rush was horrible. This is not a super bowl roster. Still we defeated Detroit and Philadelphia, and could have won the games again San Francisco and Kansas City.

    4. We have best draft class of 2024.

    5. We had a first place schedule; Atlanta has a third place schedule. That matters.

Still, I can’t see Carolina beating Atlanta in Atlanta. The division will be decided tonight.

  40. Anthony Says:

@joe, what are you guys going to complain about now? Todd didn’t …. Blah blah blah??!?!?!!!!?!??

  41. Buddha Says:

@Dom…Don’t be ridiculous. The 2021 defense was a top 10 defense and had no major injuries.

  42. Dlavid Says:

Same old same old from .500 Bowles …

  43. Simeon4HOF Says:

Not looking to 4ward to seeing an Exodus of our entire 500 plus yard Offensive walking out the door at the expense of keeping one win over 500 bowlez. Our talent carries him so much at times it ain’t even funny anymore

  44. Dom Says:

    @Buddha

If you have an offense that is gaining 400 yards a game and scoring 30 points a game, and you don’t make the playoffs, then that is clearly an indictment against the defense

  45. Not Again Says:

Beej is correct Fire Todd 500 Bowles. We would be 13-4 without him

  46. Simeon4HOF Says:

We lose our Offensive staff I mean what’s next

  47. Aceofaerospace Says:

The fact that we need Washington to win to save our season for us tonight and we still have to beat a lousy saints team next week to win the division, is reason enough to fire toilet bowls. Over his head coaching career, he has made too many stupid decisions. He’s not going to change.

  48. Permanently Moderated Says:

It’s quite easy to understand the Bowles detractors. He’s not a good HC. Mediocre at best.

  49. Pewter Power Says:

    Buddha Says:
@Dom…Don’t be ridiculous. The 2021 defense was a top 10 defense and had no major injuries.

I’m going to assume that was a joke or that you didn’t just go look up a random page to make that up.

  50. MadMax Says:

@Herbie, sorry for your low iq….let me dumb this down for you….if we had mediocre or just above mediocre at those positions i pointed out?….can you figure out the rest? Do i need to give you a simple 4 piece jigsaw puzzle to solve to help toy you along to the next step?

  51. Anthony Says:

F Joe and his stupid stories about Todd. Simply said.

  52. Ted Says:

Bowles ability to hire good OCs has literally saved his job the last two years. Hopefully, when Coen leaves in January he can hire another gem at OC. Hiring good assistants is part of being a head coach and Bowles deserves credit for hiring two very quality OCs. But injuries are part of the game and can’t be used as an excuse. Bowles D has been horrible for a majority of the last 40 games, he needs to get that fixed, like hiring a good DC and concentrating on overseeing the ENTIRE team. He has also been fortunate to play in the worst division in the NFL these last 3 years.

  53. Marky mark Says:

It all is on the line tonight. Panthers will play dead next week. As for the OC Freddy Kitchens is available.

  54. Pewter Power Says:

    Ted
Hiring good assistants is part of being a head coach and Bowles deserves credit for hiring two very quality OCs.

He’s hired to guys better at their coordinator jobs than him and if hiring assistants is part of being a head coach why is he sticking with the ones that know absolutely nothing about developing young pass rushers? Dave Canales was not a quality OC and barely improved

  55. Ted Says:

Totally agree @Pewter Power, he needs to revamp his defensive staff, first and foremost get a good DC…..Robert Salah is available and much like Bowles he got run out of New York. Regardless of what the fans think, I don’t see the Glazers moving on from Bowles unless the NFC South gets much more competitive and forces their hand.

  56. Xristos Says:

It is coach Bowles 3rd season.
In my opinion we have not seen improvements, we are an inconsistand team.
The Offense this year is really good and top 5 in most categories.
Yet we have seen a Defense getting worse every year. Defense is coach Bowles responsibility and it is what have plagued this team most of the time this season.
If hiring good assistants is your argument about a Defensive coach that his Defense is in the last places of many categories and made Cousins look like MVP then he should be in a management position with Licht and not a HC.
I m not a fan that calls for Coaches to be fired but like i said i have not seen sigmificant impovements to the team in these 3 years and the Defense getting worse.
    8-9
    9-8
    10-7 at best
    That is my opinion
    Go Bucs

  57. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

The offense has won all the games in spite of him.

  58. Gipper Says:

Sorry Bowles haters. ATL loses tonight and Bucs win next week to finish 10-7. Will win at least one playoff win if that happens. Bowles won’t be going anywhere. Bucs will fix the defensive secondary next year. One way for it to get healthy quickly is to add an EDGE——–Myles Garrett!!!!!!!!!

  59. Gipper Says:

Be nice DavidBigBucsFan99. We are watching you.

  60. Outrigger Says:

We had 5 games we blew due to Bowles poor in game management:
Both Atlanta games, Kansas City, San Francisco and Dallas. If we win just 2 of those games we win the division easily. The only game we win and should have lost was the first Carolina game.

  61. Jethro Tull Says:

Let’s not celebrate underachievement. This roster with a proper HC and DC would have 12 wins right now, at least.

  62. Ian Says:

He still needs to be fired no matter what the record . He’s proven he’s not a leader doesn’t have the balls to be a head coach it’s why jets dumped him . Promote Cohen FIRE BOWELS

  63. NYbucsfan Says:

He stinks, he is holding us back.

  64. shaftmaster Says:

I don’t love Todd Bowles, but several of our losses were partly due to turnovers on offense. If we’re so great on offense, why did we lose to the Broncos, why did we only score 20 against the 49ers, why did we barely beat the Panthers in week 13, why did we only score 24 against Dallas?

Sorry, but if you only blame Bowles for our losses and not give him any credit for winning 9 or 10 games with a bunch of rookies on both sides of the ball then you aren’t seeing the whole picture. Does Bowles deserve to be criticized? Of course he does. Would Coen be a better head coach? I don’t think anyone can really answer that. You could certainly argue that Mayfield has had more to do with winning or losing than Coen or Bowles.

  65. The Duck Says:

We should be 13-3 right now. I hope we can keep Coen.
