Another Big Day; Baker Mayfield Now Has 32 Touchdowns, 3,617 Yards And 14 Interceptions

December 15th, 2024

It feels so great to have a franchise quarterback on the Bucs.

It’s been five consecutive seasons. Joe’s getting very spoiled.

After today’s thundering blowout of the Chargers, 40-17, Tampa Bay is now averaging 28.8 points per game. That’s second best in the NFC behind the Lions.

And Baker Mayfield’s huge day now puts him at 32 touchdowns, 14 interceptions, 3,617 yards through 14 games.

Mayfield made the Pro Bowl last year and he’s been better overall this season. Did Joe mention Mayfield, after 22-of-27 passing for 4 TDs and a pick today, is now completing 70.5 percent of his passes?

And Mayfield is having a career year running the ball, though he had two long runs called back today courtesy of Graham Barton holding penalties.

It’s still a quarterback league, and the Bucs have one capable of taking the team to the NFC title game.

Stunning stuff from Mayfield in Year 1 of a new offense.

It was Good Baker who showed up after two awful weeks. His inconsistency is what always gives you a punchers’ chance in any game. Hopefully he got the trash games out of his system for a while, because if the guy from today shows up, and Todd Bowles plays defense like he did in the 2nd half and brings pressure, the Bucs can beat anyone in an NFL without any real dominant teams.

Wins vs the Lions, Eagles, Redskins, Chargers are all very good quality wins – and if Bowles had any balls and went for 2 vs the Chiefs, the Bucs likely win that game. Just shows what the team can do if Baker shows up.

  5. Peter Says:

    He might get 40td
    He’s a bargain

  6. BucsBeast Says:

Baker and Liam is a great combo.
Bowles defense needs to stay on track.
Either way it’s gonna suck when Liam takes an HC job somewhere else.

We need to find out which Baker Mayfield they keep throwing out there in the 2nd Quarter. Was on fire the whole game besides that quarter

  9. Again Says:

Da Truth… If Trask would have started, we would have won by 70. Bench Baker or we might make the playoffs.

  10. Tbbucs3 Says:

We blame Todd Bowles when the Bucs lose but only give credit to Liam Coen when the Bucs win??

    Make it make sense!

Todd Bowles outcoached Jim Harbaugh from start to finish today

  12. Xristos Says:

We did throw some longer passes today and guess what…..
Turns out Evans can catch some deep passes.
Lets hope that continues because it helps our Offense, opens more things and makes us more difficult to defend.
    Go Bucs

  13. Again Says:

Dom, that is Trask playing in the 2nd wearing Bakers Jersey

  14. stpetebucsfan Says:

Kudos to Baker, to ME13, to Bucky and R1 to the D and LVD and the rest but what was truly impressive to me…

IMHO I do not remember the last time, maybe the Sapp/Brooks/Lynch Bucs when the Bucs ran into a team that had a reputation for being “physical” and just whipped the bejesus out of them. The so called “physical team” got out physicalled big time. I haven’t seen this much intensity in a long time!!!!

  15. BuccoDav Says:

Wait… I thought Joe said Jameis was a franchise QB.

  16. Again Says:

TBBucs3 = Bowles brother. We know da truth.

All Coen… All the time. Fire Todd.

  17. MadMax Says:

I wish i could find the post from back then…. i said “go after Baker, offer him 6 mill or something”…..i said “re-sign him 3 years 33.3333″….

and look where we are now…..my man Jason knows how, he has the power.

But ULTIMATELY it comes down to the players….look at them doing it!!!

  19. Citrus County Says:

It’s interesting to follow the game on the 4 letter Gamecast and follow the comments here. It gives a completely different perspective.

Baker and Coen are the Bucs equivalent of Brees and Payton.

It is obvious that Coen MUST stay. It will be very interesting to see how this works out.

By the way, does anyone care to argue against my point that Baker Mayfield would be and is our version of Drew Brees ?

  20. Jason Anthony Sturgess Says:

If it’s a matter of losing Liam Coem to another team, the Bucs need to make Liam either Head Coach or pay him the same as Bowles. When a QB is not mobile, Bowles wins but when a QB is mobile Bowles will find a way to lose.

  21. Steven #55 Says:

Imagine if we still had Godwin this season – offense would be lights out!

  22. ManzielMadness Says:

Baker is a stud, go Bucs!!

  23. Jeffs grandpa Says:

Fans like the rod muncher were still complaining after sb 55 just hate filled cizzzucks

  24. Tye Says:

Kudos to Coen and the offense for getting the WIN!

  25. Trask To The Future Says:

Baker had a great game, but it’s funny how much short term memory Joe and others have over Baker’s absolutely horrible games he’s had this season. Sure, QBs have ups and downs, but “Bad Baker” has to stay away or this team won’t go anywhere.

All the Trask hate is hilarious. Guy hasn’t even had a chance to play. I guarantee he’d be just fine with the strong running game the Bucs now have every week.

We need to find out which Baker Mayfield they keep throwing out there in the 2nd Quarter. Was on fire the whole game besides that quarter

    ———

Basically outside of one throw, he was pretty much on fire. But yeah, not sure why those bad plays keep happening in the 2nd quarter, generally after he gets off to a fast start.

I wonder if it’s because you generally script your opening 10-15 plays? Maybe something coming off those scripted plays is throwing him off.

  27. firethecannons Says:

At this point, no changes, pay Liam Coen, Keep this team intact–even keep todd Bowles. Wow what a game so many defensive players played well too. obvious 40 points offense was on fire. Serves Chargers right! In the 2nd quarter the Chargers were laughing at us. We showed them and the world! Go Bucs!

  28. BA’s Red Pen Says:

Has anyone heard from Trask to the Stupid lately? Hide his shoe laces.

  29. Zzbucs Says:

Where are the Bowles detractors now?????
    Bunch of bipolars!!!

  30. Miller5252 Says:

Baker had a really good game. Got worried there after his first pick because he had a couple more throws that were really bad decisions. If he keeps cleaning those up and Bucky keeps rolling this offense will be scary. Couldn’t imagine if Godwin was playing as well right now… no team would want any part of this offense.

We blame Todd Bowles when the Bucs lose but only give credit to Liam Coen when the Bucs win??

Ive been very outspoken about Todd so let me finish my humble pie and give the man the credit he deserves. He went on the road out west and beat a quality opponent… Beat them soundly and missing key defensive players. Great day for Tampa fans.

  32. Citrus County Says:

Liam Coen is in the driver seat. Agree or disagree, he is forcing the Glazer’s hand.

  33. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Munch still wishes Jay Miss was our QB. He remains the human turnover machine.
148 yards passing, 3 picks, zero TD’s and he was benched. However, Munch will still find a way to keep his Jay Miss poster up in his room and tell us all what a great quarterback he is.

  34. Rod Munch Says:

One thing is for certain, the Bucs are going to lose Coen if they don’t offer him Bowles job. That’s an awkward situation. In any case I’d absolutely keep Coen so long as he continues to call the plays on offense. Maybe the Bucs can make them co-head coaches? And by that, I mean make Todd the DC again, and ban him from running zone for more than 40% of plays, unless he blitzes at least 5, and he has to have at least 10 mentions of ‘exotic blitzes’ per game on TV or he’s docked a six figure amount.

  35. Brandon Says:

Joe, can you run 2nd quarter stats for the team and Mayfield? We seem to struggle terribly in quarter two.

  36. Jethro Tull Says:

How long does someone have to live in Loserville, to have a 3rd string QB as their namesake in a football forum?

  37. Rjscheapseats Says:

    BuccoDav – Don’t diss America’s QB.

  38. Gipper Says:

More faint praise from the Muncher, when we know he really wants Mayfield to fail so Muncher and his crew can feel validate their constant running down of a Top 5 NFL QB. These guys glow with smugness when Baker fumbles, throws an interception or has a pass batted down. Joe has added it all up for Mayfield year to date, and it looks like another Pro Bowl season. Nevertheless, the Baker Hate Brigade will be arguing for a high draft pick to be used on a “franchise QB.” Got news for the Hate Brigade, after Bucs win another first round playoff game, Licht will extend Baker another 3 years at $50Million per year. Too bad, so sad.

  39. Bucschamp Says:

Baker is crazy diving for that fumble

  40. jarrett Says:

The game Baker really got me on his side as a fan was his effort against the Chiefs.

I’m starting to be less and less surprised Baker balls out

  41. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

I don’t care what it takes, Liam Coen needs to stay a Bucs beyond this season. Him and Baker make a great combo.

  42. Bamboo Says:

That Munch guy…..give it a rest man. I have said since last year “how many teams would send a plane for him tonight?”. Not only is he a Stud, in todays world we got him for NUTHIN’. Geeeez, enjoy it!

  43. Jason Anthony Sturgess Says:

Exactly keep Liam Coen no matter what! I still don’t understand why Bowles is considered a good defensive Head Coach. The Bucs would have been 11-2 with a good defensive coach

  44. Pewter Power Says:

Congratulations to Todd Bowles that’s a great offense you have there, give Coen a bonus out of your salary.

  45. Weebs10 Says:

About time you got on board Jarrett. Kinda sad it took you this long to become a Baker supporter but hey some fans are strange.

  46. Bee Says:

Just bring Trask in only for the 2nd qtr lol. Baker played lights out today and his downfield passing was spot on. Glad to see it. Hopefully this is the team we get to see for the rest of the season

  47. Whit Says:

Everyone happy today- where is the clean house crowd

  48. JimBobBuc Says:

At the beginning of the season, we were wondering if Baker would revert to his mean and regress. It seems like he hasn’t peaked yet! A great day for Baker.

  49. sunny Says:

guess baker isn’t so inaccurate on the long passes when he has more than 1.8 seconds to throw the ball. who knew?

ive been saying for awhile now that no one knows what baker’s ceiling is. he played for dumpster fires before. had one season with quality coaching and players around him at cleveland and was top 10 that season. the next season started even stronger until he was injured. then traded to an even bigger dumpster fire in carolina.

he has consistently good coaching in tb and great players around him. the culture is a perfect match for him. he’s only going to get better.

  51. Les Says:

Damn well better lock up Liam coim !! There a team him and baker are offence never raked up points like this . If it is a choice between bowles and coim .take Liam!!! A no brainer .

  52. Lightningvinny Says:

Come on Rod,,, Baker only did ok today,,, he’s won 4 in a row,,, give the guy some credit ,,, if he was still in Browns there is 100% they beat the chiefs today,,, he makes mistakes and then kicks butt,,,’now of course let’s run the Ball but Bug Mike is back in the hunt after today,,, what a game !

  53. Lightningvinny Says:

Oh and we can beat anyone

  54. Canabuc Says:

I don’t understand people complaining about Baker he played fantastic today except for one really bad pass.
Guy is on pace for nearly $4,400 yards passing and close to 40 passing touchdowns and a few rushing cut sounds.

Top of that he has been putting himself on the line playing after play.

My main criticism is that sometimes he tries to be too much of a hero instead of realizing that there is no successful play in throwing the ball away.

Ironically the one time that he did throw the ball away he had Bucky Irving open for a 5-yd pass when they needed seven said he looks for the bigger play instead of dumping it off to him and allowing him to break the tackles to get it first down instead it led to a sack. I think if Baker can clean that up he is having an unbelievable season and I think we are lucky to have gotten him for the price that we did.

  55. Eric Says:

Baker is currently playing as well as Brady did when he was here.

  56. unbelievable Says:

Agreed with the sentiment of keeping Coen.

Gonna have to show him serious $$$ to keep him, as they’re just not gonna fire Bowles IF we make the playoffs again.

  57. unbelievable Says:

While we rank nearly as good on offense (#2 in the league), Brady had a much much better TD:INT ratio during his time here:

    40 TD 12 INT
    43 TD 12 INT
    25 TD 9 INT

I think we’re even better on 3rd down though this year which is wild.

  58. Dldub87 Says:

For those of you hating on Baker for throwing too many picks, obviously arent watching the game. At least 3 pics were recievers stopping on routes. Hes been injured, At least 2 were because receivers not running the right routes, at least 2 were balls that bounced off the receivers hands or deflected. The other ones are Bakers fault but the guy is a 6′ tall gun slinger. He can’t see the field well at times , but all the other things he does makes up for it.

  59. JK Says:

Like Death and Taxes after this sweet victory THE THROBBING ROD MUNCHER is on here using the words awful and trash when speaking Mayfield and TRASK TO THE FUTURE is campaigning hard for dumbest football fan of all time

  60. Bucks 'n' Bucs Says:

Congrats to Baker. Each touchdown pass was a thing of beauty. Shout out to the coaches for the halftime adjustments. What a fun game!

Enjoy this. Then next game. Let’s make the Cowboys cry. Go Bucs!!

  61. drdneastup Says:

Here’s hoping the Bucs never waste a No. 1 or 2 draft pick on a QB again. They have been nothing but dismal failures for this team and that goes for the No.2 pick that is sitting on the bench. The only success this team has ever had has been with FA QB’s. Brad Johnson, Jeff Garcia, Tom Brady and now Baker Mayfield. Our last No. 1 QB pick threw three of four INT’s with the Browns today. Just another day at the office for Winston.

  62. Billy Says:

As a frustrated, angry Browns fan, I can tell you that we were doomed when we ditched Mayfield for Watson.

  63. Gipper Says:

Browns are getting what they deserve for the shameful way they treated Mayfield.

  64. Itzok Says:

baker is ballin. I was so scared after Brady retired that the Bucs would spend 20 years trying to field another winner. This team can go.

  65. MelvinJunior Says:

Yackety Yack! LOTS of YAC. Bet the Bucs/he lead the League. 4 BAD Offenses.
