“We Let Our Foot Off The Gas The First Half Of The Season”

November 24th, 2024

Candid?

Joe had to do a double-take at halftime today.

Bucs head coach Todd Bowles did an interview with the CBS sideline reporter and noted that his team needed to close out strong against the Giants after taking a 23-0 lead after 30 minutes.

“We let our foot off the gas the first half of the season,” Bowles said.

What? Joe doesn’t recall hearing Bowles say anything close to that previously.

Joe found it to be a telling remark. Was Bowles talking about coaches, playcalls, players letting up?

Regardless, the Bucs were strong today, winning 30-7. The Giants came out with a solid drive in the third quarter, but Lavonte David forced a fumble in the red zone, which snuffed out any life the Giants may have had. The Bucs answered with a 12-play, 95-yard drive. But overall it was ugly after that for the Bucs.

Joe sure hopes Bowles stands by his stated foot-on-the-gas mentality.

  1. Rod Munch Says:

Bowles always does that, it’s why he’s known as Tiny Balls.

  2. Let ‘em bake Says:

If Dallas hangs on… this Washington loss could loom large for wildcard birth… we have the head to head tie…

  3. firethecannons Says:

Well I have minimal confidence in Todd Bowles but Bucs were dominant. I mean that is fact. They were dominant on offense and defense. Joe–I am no longer on X, I got found out and have to go back to serving my lifetime ban. Anyway, Bucs were good! Fun game to watch.

  4. MarkV Says:

They played a reeling team with their third string quarterback… Just keep that in mind before you start keeping too much praise on this coach

  5. Durango 95 Says:

Does he even know what he’s saying anymore. Let’s add the *foot off the gas* excuse amongst all the other excuses we’ve heard about his miserable defense. I didn’t see Coen taking his *foot off the gas* at any time this season. Who exactly is this “we” Bowles is speaking about.

  6. Pewter Power Says:

“We let our foot off the gas the first half of the season,” Bowles said.

Coaches decision lol After going 3-1 two years in a row, we’ve realized the recipe for success is beating teams with a losing record. The Glazers seem to be pleased

  7. Cybetsecurity_intern Says:

    Yeah ok

  8. BigBucJoe Says:

But we did take our foot off the gas in the second half on both sides of the ball. Classic Bowles turtle in the shell. He’s a terrible head coach.

  9. Rod Munch Says:

Lets see if the Bucs keep the pedal on the gas next week, or if Tiny Balls Bowles goes into his turtle shell and ‘outsmarts’ everyone by playing his trash super soft zone defense and lets the Panthers move the ball at will.

If the defense just stays aggressive, even if they give up yards and points, they’ll at least create some turnovers instead of passively being destroyed with no resistance.

  10. orlbucfan Says:

Knock off the negative Bowles’ noize. Bucs came out after a Bye Week and slammed the Giants. They normally stumble. My complaint is Coen. He could have talked to BM after that stinger and made him sit. Plus, yeah, Bucky Irving had a big game, but where are the creative calls? White can catch that football so get creative, Coen.

  11. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

When has he ever had a foot to put down on the gas? Sounds like u bunch of hot air. They only scored 1 td in the all the 2nd half a typical Turtle Todd response

  12. Bucsgoham12 Says:

They could be 7-4 if they used Bucky like that. Liam needed to insert him into that SF game late and they would have likely gotten the td. Good win in a day where the bad teams were fighting hard.

  13. Joshua Says:

This game right here is exactly why I can’t stand Bowles. He gives me so much hope, and for a moment, I think he has turned a corner. He even seems to understand the importance of keeping the foot on the gas. In those instances, I feel like he finally gets it. But then, just a few weeks later, he does something that leaves me completely baffled, thinking, “What is he even thinking? Why?!” It’s frustrating because it feels like he can’t stay consistent, and those moments of hope quickly fade into disappointment. Beat the Chargers like this in a few weeks and maybe I’ll believe again right now.. WHO CARES???

  14. Bucsgoham12 Says:

By the way the OT games today and the Washington one…teams don’t go for two so people should let up on Bowles for that. Bengals stupidly did and refs swallow the whistle when it is on the line.

  15. Cybetsecurity_intern Says:

Sure, did anybody ever ask him why did rhey stop running against the 49ers?

  16. Bucsfan4life Says:

They took the foot off the gas in the 2nd half. Seems to be an issue!

  17. Bucks 'n' Bucs Says:

Munch…..will you please stop trying to come up with cute little nicknames?!? Your Skuke, Tiny Balls and Lovie2 are just pathetic. If you hate this team and it’s players so much, you and your ghost writer Dave Pear should just leave.

This was a great step in the right direction today and all you can do is complain.

Go Bucs and go away Munch!!

  18. Jmarkbuc Says:

The same exact thing happened last year.

    That’s on the head man.

  19. Xristos Says:

And we let our foot of the gas in the 2nd half today even though in his halftime interview Coach said we must keep it.
Really good 1st half but 2nd half was unispiring. It was an opportunity to work Palmer and McMillan and give them some touches.
Anyway lets see if we can continue and play better in the next game before we make conclussions yet.
    Go Bucs

  20. Bartow Buc Says:

Doesn’t matter what coach Bowles said, we BLEW OUT the New York Football Giants !!! Our defense obliterated them !! Our offense continues to play well !! Hopefully we will beat the Panthers !!

    Go Bucs !!

  21. McBucky Says:

Bowles uses the word “we?” It’s more like HE took his foot off the gas the first half of the season. The players are better than this coach enables them to be.

  22. Rod Munch Says:

Bucks ‘n’ Bucs – I’ll take your advice under consideration.

    OK, thought about it.

    No.

    God bless.

Bowles always does that, it’s why he’s known as Tiny Balls.

And you ALWAYS do this Rod Muncher…. bitch, whine, complain, criticize, attack.

    Loser

  24. Dave Pear Says:

What head coach lets his team take their foot off the gas?

A loser. Still is a loser. 5-6 this season. 10-9 last season. 8-10 previous season. Needs two more wins in the next two games to be .500 Coich.

Foot off the gas happened again today, just that the Ginats are trying so hard to lose that not even Head Coich could dissuade them from their mission. This might be the last win of the Coich era.

  25. garro Says:

Seems to me that Todd is a bit delusional or just plain strange. Foot off the gas? How bout head up…

    Go Bucs!
