Wasting A Good Offense

November 23rd, 2024

Disgusting defensive stat.

Joe sure hopes the folks at One Buc Palace who snicker and scoff at the need for a productive edge rusher are happy about this.

The Bucs are on the cusp of making history with a shameful waste of offense rarely seen in the NFL in more than a half-century.

The folks at BSPN shared this stats nugget that ought to make Bucs fans hit the bottle on this otherwise fine Saturday morning.

The Buccaneers are one of three teams in the Super Bowl era to average at least 27.9 points and be under .500. The other two teams (2016 Saints and 2016 Chargers) didn’t make the playoffs.

So, yeah, Joe had his curiosity (only) aroused reading this. So Joe checked.

And yup, just what Joe thought. The 2016 slimy Saints and the 2016 Chargers each finished the season with losing records. The slimy Saints were 7-9. The Chargers were 5-11.

For the first time since Bucco Bruce Arians stepped aside, the Bucs have had a productive if not dangerous offense. And the defense then goes out on the field and vomits on itself late in games.

Aren’t you proud?

The 49ers have one of the better edge rushers, their record isn’t much better than ours. The Chargers and Saints had good edge rushers those years mentioned and still fell short. You need a solid all around team to be good. One good edge rusher does not make for a good team. This years Browns are another good example. Team, need a good team. Need good players throughout the roster, and need good coaches to coach them. We don’t have enough of either.

Look at the results of Bowles old defensive coaches and look at the new offensive coaches.

YaYa as a back up gets 7.5 sacks then the next year with more time to work on his craft he’s a ghost. That’s because any improvements he makes he has to do it on his own. Bowles hired coaches who can’t develop talent. There’s nothing wrong with this team it is 100% the coaches.

Head coach Cohen will improve the offense and dc jets x head coach will make the team more consistent

In 2002 a Buccaneers team with an elite defense and lack luster inept offense fire defensive minded HC Tony Dungy and hired Jon Gruden to add the missing components to the eventual Superbowl XXXVII champions. Fast forward to 2024 and we have an explosive Bucs offense coupled with an inconsistent yet talented defensive unit. The Bucs need to find a more capable and inspiring defensive / HC in order to capitalize on the short window of opportunities to get to the big show once again.

Bowles likes smaller OLBs that can drop in coverage. They struggle against big OTs. Look at Miles Garrett, he’s a force at 275 lbs. Our best edge rusher would be Logan Hall, but Todd thinks he’s a DT, he’s not. Hall should be a D end in a 4-3 defense. One of Hall’s sacks this year came from the edge where he simply over powered the tackle. YaYa, and JTS simply can’t do that. Reggie White was a monster. He would’ve been a DT in Todd’s defense, because he couldn’t drop in coverage as an end. The scheme is the problem. Players are not being put in a position to win. Doesn’t matter if we find the best edge rusher in the world if he’s asked to cover receivers.

It’s what we get with an alleged defensive mastermind who coaches the worst defense I. The league. Give this defense to Robert Saleh and it’s top 10. The two franchise loser is soon going back to Temple who just gave up 52 points to some s schlub team. He’s only give up 55 so not much worse.

  7. Joe in Michigan Says:

Hodad: Logan Hall isn’t an edge rusher, either. He’s a tweener that’s not very good. Yeah, he’s had a few sacks this year, but not exactly Reggie White-like.

You forgot to mention that the following year we went 7-9 (3rd in our division) and then 4-11 (last in our division).

Then we had a “great” 11-5 season and blew it in the wildcard…

Let’s not make the same mistakes that led to the lost decade….

That’s been the heartbreaker for most of us Buc Fans. Our offense and Baker Mayfield are having one of the best seasons ever. If we had just an Average Defense We would be winning, But we have one of the league’s worst ever. And we have a Defensive coach who is supposed to know Defense. The Giants could have Stevie Wonder at QB. And they will still score. That’s how bad, how much our Defense sucks. Unacceptable and Pitiful.

  10. Pewter Power Says:

The 2002 roster was older and Chucky did not know how to draft well at all which is what led to the lost decade along with the bad gm and coaching hires. The only issue the Bucs have right more is a bad coaching hire. That defense collapsed too when monte kiffin denied he was leaving. Was it that lynch and brooks were weak minded or had the locker room eroded and lost faith in the coach I don’t know but everyone got a pink slip
