Todd Bowles Names His Two Most Improved Bucs

November 13th, 2024

To say Todd Bowles is bullish on these two dudes would be an understatement.

It’s the bye week, so Bowles got a couple of state-of-the-union questions during his trip to the Buccaneers Radio Network.

One asked the head coach to name his most improved players, one on each side of the ball.

Bowles went right to the big man with the funny helmet, right tackle Luke Goedeke. While Goedeke missed four games with a concussion, Bowles said his time on the field shows that he’s one of the very best right tackles in football.

On defense, Bowles went with his prized rookie pupil Tykee Smith, the third-round draft pick.

Smith doesn’t just get a most-improved nod from Bowles. It sounds like Bowles sees Smith as his defensive MVP.

“Tykee Smith has probably had the best season over there [on defense] so far,” Bowles said. “And he’s had a heck of a year for us. And he sets the edge. He gets the ball out. He causes turnovers. He’s a very good tackler for us and he’s a very heady football player.”

It’s always exciting when second-day draft picks rise up and become top-flight players. Goedeke, a 2022 second-round pick, was strong as a starter last year but Bowles said he’s shown significant improvement and is very “unsung.”

Good for Todd giving kudos to Tykee and Luke! Positivity goes a long way. Go Bucs!

    Bucben1961 for the win!!! Hahahahaha

The scarecrow, aka Todd Bowels, is really scraping the bottom of the barrel.

What fool hands out awards toa defense giving up 500+ yards a game.

They make terrific slump busters for below average QBs.

You can’t make this stuff up.

  6. SlyPirate Says:

Tykee is a stud. He’s a rookie so he can’t be most improved. Details.

On defense, I’d say most improved is Vea. He’s been great but he’s having his best year. He could finish with 10 sacks.

On offense, I’d say Baker. He was good last year but he’s been a lot better this year. He might set a Bucs records.

  7. Mike C Says:

Figures that you would find that funny Ballhawk, dim wit humor for dim wits.

  8. toddbowleshater Says:

i dont care. just fire him already

  9. Todd Says:

It could have been Palmer if they decided to actually play him.

I guess they’re stashing him for the big battles with the Panthers.

  10. BallHawk75 Says:

    @Mike C

    Lighten up Francis!!!

If we can’t laugh at El Bozo what is the point?

It at least softens the blow from all the loses.

You’re on the wrong site if you’re looking for Polly positive talk.

That’s what lemmings do despite the conditions they find themselves in.

Guarantee you once Bowels is evacuated, this team will be great again.

Ballhawk is from another planet like David what a total azzholey

  12. SenileSenior Says:

Dave Pear has a unique way of articulating how he sees our Bucs. Very colorful. Not saying specifically where I agree and where I disagree. Might say something similar about a couple of other posters here.

    Meanwhile, Go Bucs!

  13. Mike C Says:

Just do better, lame jokes are lame jokes

  14. Rod Munch Says:

Smith has played great for a rookie.

Luke has been a stud, he’s going to be expensive to keep. Remember all the morons in the comments who wanted to cut him after his rookie year? Then all the morons in the comments that wanted Cody benched. Maybe remember that rookie years matter, and if someone isn’t a stud on day it, it also doesn’t mean they’re a bust.

  15. Allen lofton Says:

Bucs have an easier schedule after the Bye Week should end up NFC South the leader again

  16. Dave Pear Says:

The most exciting thing in this page is “Make it Hooters for lunch and dinner.”

  17. Drunkinybor Says:

Just camt to say. Todd bowles needs testes and not getting a D end was criminal.

  18. Dave Pear Says:

If BA were head coach of this roster the Bucs would be 7-3 minimum, 8-2 probably. BA knows this. He must be drinking extra bourbon watching his protege mess the bed. Every. Week.

    Jason knows this.

    The Glazers know this.

But for now, we get to watch Bowlerama every week until the termination agreement is mercifully administered and executed.

  19. Joe in Michigan Says:

I’m not going to listen to anybody who drops their defensive linemen into coverage more than a few times per season. When they do rush, why are they running into each other like the Keystone Cops? The Bucs need REAL coaching on defense.

  20. BigBucsFan Says:

My opinion Zion McCollum is the most improved defensive player considering smith is a rookie. I definitely couldn’t agree with goats play definitely stepping it up this year. Wait did I not answer right was this actually supposed to be full negative bashing or should we actually reply to what this Joe wrote.

BigBucsFan: It’s called freedom of speech, even if it hurts your (or Todd Bowles) feelings.
