Todd Bowles: Decision To Pass On 2-Point Conversion Was Made Prior To Final Touchdown
November 6th, 2024Here’s a fresh twist to Monday’s lost opportunity.
Joe’s been over this a lot: The Bucs marched to a late touchdown in Kansas City with 27 seconds remaining to pull to within 24-23 on Monday Night Football against the Super Bowl champs.
Tampa Bay jacked up its momentum when the TD throw was completed to receiver Ryan Miller. As Baker Mayfield said today, the Chiefs’ defense was gassed.
However, the Bucs kicked the extra point, lost a coin flip and never saw the football again.
Head coach Todd Bowles said the decision to not go for a 2-point conversion was about “wet conditions” and the rain picking up, among other things.
None of that has made much sense to Joe. Got a shot to put a dagger in the Chiefs on the road in a big game? Take it! And everyone on earth knows the Bucs’ offense is the strength of the team.
That didn’t happen.
However, Bowles served up a new wrinkle to the decision during his chat with WFLA-TV sports chief Dan Lucas, via WFLA.com. The decision to pass on the 2-point conversion was made before the touchdown.
“I mean, we talked about it as a staff going down there [to the end zone]; going forward we understood we were going for 1 and we were going to get it into overtime,” Bowles said.
“We felt we had momentum with moving the ball on offense; we thought defensively we could hold them to three and get the ball back and either tie them or beat them that way, as well. Unfortunately, it didn’t happen.”
So Bowles thought the Bucs “had momentum” but he didn’t want to use that momentum on a 2-point conversion for a potential win? Odd.
If someone believes in momentum, then doesn’t that mean the same person believes momentum could be lost quickly?
Also, the Bucs defense already was past 70 snaps for the game at the time,, and the Chiefs had scored a touchdown on a 15-play, 8 1/2-minute drive in the fourth quarter. Bowles’ confidence in his nearly-league-worst defense was bizarre at best against Patrick Mahomes.

November 6th, 2024 at 4:28 pm
Todd is a career sub 500 coach for a reason….

If we went for 2 and didn’t get it yall still would have something to say. Why he didn’t just kick the extra point lol. We have a good team and good coaches and we will win. Joe you picked us to lose anyway so chillout man

Makes absolutely no sense what so ever.

Confidence in one of the leagues worst units…
Guy is lucky he was friends with Arians or he’d never have another head coaching job

Honestly, I don’t blame him for the decision. I can defend both decisions (going for 2 or for the PAT) and he would be crucified as well has he gone for 2 and missed it.
What I do blame him is for this absurd excuse… Todd, why didn’t you say exactly this after the game?!? Why the attempt to cover this up? OWN the decision, show LEADERSHIP for god’s sake!!!!!
This is one of my problems with him: when in tough situations he chooses to hide behind childish excuses… If this is his behavior also away of the spotlight, towards his players, it goes a long way explaining why his D is so soft and crumbles under pressure… lack of leadership does that to a group of people!

Bowles should take a step back and listen to what he just said. It makes no sense!! Your chances of winning that game against Patrick Mahomes are highest if you go for 2 there and make it. Plain and simple. If you play it safe, you’re relying on winning the coin flip and scoring or hoping your 2nd-rate defense can somehow stop Mahomes from driving down the field. Obviously, we know what happened.

Go get Bill already. Anything is better than this moronic imbecile.

Coen will do interviews on Defensive Coordinators on the bye week. After Sunday’s game he will be the first head coach to be hired in the middle of the season.
Bowles will get 3rd price on Sunday. SMH

I bet he was thinking 3 and out for them followed by a field goal to get the win.
There’s no way he was thinking about a TD drive.

Bowles thinking comes straight from his bowels

IMO we are just wasting time. Just fire him already.
November 6th, 2024 at 6:51 pm
Ok, so it was not a panic decision, fine. But that means it was predetermined that they thought OT vs Mahomes in KC with this defense was the best path to win. THAT is not smart.
November 6th, 2024 at 6:58 pm
One play at a time. Feel the momentum.. Split second decisions that win games. Thats why you get paid the big bucks little toddy Blows goof god. Does he Have male genitalia that produces any bit of testosterone. Bowles is forever done with me.

Just realized Bliws isbthe type of guy who now go for w in a similar situation but not against the Chiefs and thier winning streak and go confirm the ball back to Mahomes. He will screw it up sun consciously on purpose to prove he made the eight decision not to go for it the last time. His job is on the line and he is going ro start making dumb choices. Bet

He clearly doesn’t do analytics if he thought that defense could get a three and out. It’s why Todd Bowles is done in Tampa.
Go for two in the rain you win or lose
Even if you get the ball first in overtime. Going for the score against that defense in the rain. If you kick a field goal they could score or this continues until someone wears out and we know that’s Todd Bowles defense
