The Streak Is Over!

November 24th, 2024

Sigh of relief.

Joe knows a lot of Bucs fans point to different uncomortable elements of Todd Bowles’ style of leading an NFL team. But for Joe, this is just about the worst.

Entering today’s beatdown of the Giants in the New Jersey Swamplands, Bowles’ record in games coming off a bye was 1-5, including losing five in a row.

The worst of the worst was two years ago in Cleveland when Tom Brady was starting a game-winning drive in the final seconds. Bowles took the ball out of Brady’s hands. Pulled the rug out from under him.

Bowles, as he is wont to do, played for overtime and guess what? The Bucs got beat. When you don’t play for the win, you lose.

After the game, Bowles said his decision to let the air out of the tires was because Brady could have thrown a pick. This game was in late November and to that point in the 2022 season, Brady had thrown two interceptions. Tom. Freaking. Brady!

Well, that streak is over in the wake of the Bucs’ 30-7 beatdown of the Giants today in which the Bucs played just about a perfect first half.

“This Joe” was always dubious of the Bucs going 6-1 to finish the season and maybe get a playoff berth. One reason was Bowles’ ugly streak of losses coming off a bye.

So this is one big win down and five more wins to go. Can a Bowles’ led team actually finish a season 6-1? We’re a week closer to finding out.

Bowles doing just enough to not get fired. Thankfully Danny Devito didn’t go off as many back-ups/no names have vs Bucs before. Good win. A great team to break a slump against. It had been over a month since their last win.

  2. Jason Anthony Sturgess Says:

Even if the Bucs wn the rest of their games, they need to promote Liam Coen to Head Coach or they’ll likely lose him.

  3. Joe in Michigan Says:

If there was another coach who knew what he was doing, telling Bowles what to do the entire game, and if Bowles actually listened and did what the legitimate coach told him to do, then maybe.

  4. Steven #55 Says:

Wasn’t happy seeing White up the gut at the end when going for it on 4th down. Clearly haven’t learned from the previous attempts at doing the same thing

  5. Zzbucs Says:

Well “this joe”, starting to be boring, when the Bucs win is on the players, when they don’t is on the coach.

Today the coaching was close to perfect, and you decide to go for Bowles again, talking about a game millions of years ago…..

Ok “this Joe”, you are getting predictable and boring….

Trust me “this Joe”, I am not trying to be funny, I am posting here for several years, I enjoy what you the other Joe and Ira have to say, but this season , seems to me to are not being objective anymore, and it,s boring…..

  6. Bojim Says:

They were the Giants. We shoulda won.

  7. Lightningvinny Says:

Washington losing actually helps Bucs ,,, just got to win one at a time

  8. Hodad Says:

That’s why they play the games.

  9. McBucky Says:

Bowles is not trustworthy to get this team where they need to go.

  10. ModHairKen Says:

Stop with the Bowles attacks. He is the coach. He will be the coach. And he has them on the road. It’s a 17 game regular season.

  11. Mac Says:

Bowles won’t get fired no matter what happens st seasons end. But Bucs would be smart to offer Coen head coaching $ and tell him he makes any and all decisions on the offense. Essentially a co head coach. If Bowles doesn’t like it tell him to hit the road.

  12. BucsFanSince1996 Says:

@Jason Anthony Sturgess, while I believe that Coen is the most valuable acquisition of the off-season and the Glazers need to make him an offer he can’t refuse so we retain him, I’m not on board with making him HC, at least not yet.

He’s a great OC, and if we make him a HC it will take some of his attention off offense, and I don’t think that is a good idea. I believe that is one of the issues the Bucs have on defense. Bowles IS a good DC but as head coach it takes some of his time and attention away from defense.

  13. Bartow Buc Says:

The Bucs are a good football team ! They have been plagued with injuries all season. The Bucs have beaten some great teams. Commanders, Lions ,Eagles, and if it were not for injuries to our defense and two pro bowl receivers, we should have beaten the Falcons Ravens and Chiefs !! My point is the Bucs are good enough to run the table and finish 11-6 !! We have to believe !!

Go Bucs !! Beat the Panthers !!

  14. Please Says:

Bartow: spot on – toughest schedule in the NFL first half, critical injuries, still hung within one score of the league’s best. And wins against Detroit, DC, Philly? Who else can say that.

Time to run the table now though.

  15. Saskbucs Says:

Its official Zzbucs is part of the Bowles family.

Everyone start glazing Todd here so we don’t hurt this persons feelings anymore.

I’m not about to say Bowles is safe after 1 game off a bye vs the 2-8 Giants with a 3rd string QB. Bowles was supposed to win as a 6 pt favorite.

Bowles has 3 division games and the Chargers coming up that will test him. Win those and a playoff game or 2… then he can be safe again like last year. Name a good team we have beaten in the last 30 games… Lions this year. That’s the list. Eagles last year were dead, Commanders first game with new staff and new QB, Eagles this year minus top 2 WRs. Until Bowles can win a 1 score game vs a contending team… he’s not a coach that can win a SB and that’s all that matters.

  16. Rod Munch Says:

BTW, huge game by Christian Izien today. He should really get his own dedicated shout-out. While the Giants aren’t very good, Nabbers is really good, and Izien played him really well – and I’m pretty he made the one-on-one tackle in the open field vs him when it looked like Nabbers would have a big play.

No idea why we haven’t seen him more this year – but glad he showed up today.

  17. dumboldguy Says:

So frustrating. Plays aggressive defense against bottom feeders and makes correct adjustments and game management decisions. Plays soft and not to lose against good teams. He really needs to go. He is holding this team back.

  18. al Says:

at least TB pulled his starters in the 4th quarter when they were up 30-7…….oh, wait a second.
