NFL.com, New York Times Increase Bucs’ Playoff Chances

November 18th, 2024

The Bucs haven’t improved on the field in weeks, but those around them are suffering so much that Tampa Bay’s postseason chances have improved significantly.

So the Seahawks, 49ers and Rams all have a 5-5 record, but per the NFL’s super computers and data gurus, each of those teams has a worse chance at the postseason than the Bucs do.

Isn’t life great? At 4-6, per the NFL, the Bucs have a 37 percent likelihood of making the playoffs. The 49ers are at 31 percent, the Seahawks sit at 21 percent and the Rams are stuck at 14 percent.

The New York Times is not as generous. Their analytics team has the Rams at 32 percent, the 49ers at 23 percent, the Buccaneers at 19 percent and Seattle at 11.

Regardless, the Bucs’ chances improved after the Falcons getting blown out yesterday and the 49ers falling to the Seahawks.

Lots of opportunity for move up the probability ranks for the Bucs this weekend. While the Bucs head to face the sad Giants (2–8) with their backup quarterback, the Packers host the 49ers, the Seahawks host the first-place Cardinals and the Rams will welcome the surging Eagles.

In an odd way, as a fan base we can’t lose. If we run the table, hooray! Bucs win! Bucs win!

If we flounder down the stretch we will probably see the changes a lot of people have wanted for a while.
