Mike Evans’ Impact On Offense “Huge”

If you thought the Bucs offense looked different Sunday against the Giants than in recent games, you are not alone. Joe thought the same.
A big reason was future Hall of Fame receiver Mike Evans returned to the field, despite being/not being 100 percent, depending on who is talking.
The offense just looked sharper, at least in the passing game. You could tell the Giants very much were paying attention to Evans. And that seemed to open up things for everyone.
So today, Joe asked Bucs offensive Liam Coen what sort of impact Evans’ return brought after missing three games with a bum hamstring, suffered in the loss to Baltimore.
“Huge, huge!” Coen said. “Just his presence alone, what it does, what you can at times dictate in terms of what kind of defensive structure you’re going to get.”
It wasn’t just the X’s and O’s element where Evans made an impact, Coen said. Evans’ confidence, he said, is contagious.
“The players draw confidence” [from Evans], Coen added.
An area of the field Coen had planned to attack against the Giants just so happens to be an area where Evans shines.
“His ability to go win one-on-one routes and give us some plays down the field — more so in that intermediate range where we were trying to get into this past week,” Coen said. Evans is “such a good dude. It’s always good to have him back.”
The way the offense was so sharp with Evans back gave Joe hope that running the table in the final six weeks isn’t as crazy as Joe previously believed.
Evans is good enough to carry an offense — so long as he has a healthy hamstring.

Yet we had him and Godwin and did nada against the Broncos. Luckily now the o line is jelling and Coen is able to expand his play book. If only he’d give Irving 20 totes a game

I’d only disagree with the assertion that ME can “carry an offense”.
He’s very important but if they other guys don’t continue to improve and maximize their opportunities they’ll just double Mike and our downfield pass game will sputter.
Hoping he can stay on the field the rest of the way and gets his 1k

Reread what Liam says about “contagious confidence”. We threw for 230 yards in the first half. Evans value can’t be overstated. But GoneGator isn’t gonna carry a team anymore. Good news is that he doesn’t have to.

Ravens, Chiefs, Niners, Atlanta 1,2, were all very winnable. Only Denver was a blowout loss.

Winnable for teams with a defense that can close out a game. We don’t have that.

When we lost to Denver the players were still trying to learn the offense and we didn’t have the run game established. With this run game we have now and if we had a healthy Godwin and Evans we could pretty much beat anyone. Hope we get to run it back next year with everyone healthy and some added talent from the draft.

Does anyone keep stats for receiving yards + yards for defensive penalties drawn? It seems like the team gains hundreds of yards every season on penalties against defenders trying to cover Evan’s. If he misses 1,000 yards this year, it seems like the penalty yards attracted should be a significant part of his HOF cred.
