Luke Goedeke Details Development Of Bucs’ Strong Front Line
November 4th, 2024Ever since right tackle Luke Goedeke returned to the starting lineup after being in concussion jail, the Bucs’ offensive line has taken a massive step forward.
One only needs to re-watch last week’s game against the Dixie Chicks. The line was blowing holes wide open. So large were some of the holes, even Rachaad White couldn’t miss them.
In pass blocking? Baker Mayfield never got touched in 52 dropbacks. That’s wild to think about.
So last week Joe asked Goedeke why he thinks the line has made big strides despite being newbies mostly.
“We are feeling very comfortable with one another,” Goedeke said. “I think we have great camaraderie. On the offensive line, it comes down to us trusting each other.
“Like everyone has their [assignment] and we trust that the guy next to you will do their job, whether it is helping on a double-team or protection or even a man block, whatever. it may be.
“It speaks volumes.”
The development of the line, Goedeke noted, is slightly surprising only because the linemen are mostly still new to each other, he said.
“We are all fairly a new unit,” Goedeke said. “Only myself and [right guard] Cody [Mauch] have played next to each other and that was only one year.
“So I can only believe the offensive line will continue to grow.”
When former college basketball coach Bobby Knight used to stomp and holler around courts, he always used to say a key to development is “Not the will to win but the will to prepare to win.” Goedeke thinks his fellow offensive linemen have that trait.
“I think [the development] shows how serious we are about our business,” Goedeke said. “I think we will only continue to improve as time goes along.”
As for tonight’s game against the Chiefs, Goedeke said the Bucs have to be ready for everything because the Chiefs do a very good job defensively of not tipping pitches.
“The Chiefs are really good at disguising defenses,” Goedeke said, “That’s why they do such a good job.”

Since we do not appear to have a DL, can the OL play there too?

Last year the OL struggled in pass protection when rushers would run games or stunts, not so this year. I think it’s coaching and Barton is doing well in that area.

So Mayfied was never touched, never “pressured”, yet still felt compelled to throw interceptions. Why? Perhaps we should run the ball a little bit more tonight than we throw it.

Both times he thought he could force them in, turns out he could not

This post is about our OLine. Not about Baker. I’ll bet this OLine can’t stand Mayfield being so mentally weak. Don’t you think the same Show Me the TDs?

Good O- Line play = strong running game, three headed monster, and good pass protection. Are we better mudders? Hope so, it’s been raining at Arrowhead Stadium. It may be raining at game time.
I’m thinking this helps the Bucs !! A lot !!
Go Bucs !! L G !!

Fire LovieII tomorrow morning first thing so we can give the Bucs a chance to still reap the benefits of a potent offense, a solid offensive line, even without Mikey and Chris.

Hope we get a strong dose of the run game tonight. They need to save Tucker for the second half, and just pound the Chiefs all game long.
