Kelce Brothers: Bucs Should Have Gone For Two

November 10th, 2024

Kelce brothers discuss Todd Bowles.

Say what you will about head coach Todd Bowles — and Joe’s readers very much have — you can hear the deep respect NFL players have for the Bucs’ leader of men.

Despite that, the Kelce Brothers, Jason and Travis, took to their very popular podcast New Heights this week to talk about the Chiefs’ win over the Bucs in Kansas City on Monday night.

Of course, the Bucs pulled within six at 24-23 with 27 seconds left and instead of going for two and a possible win, Bowles elected to tie the score and give the ball back to the assassin in red wearing No. 15, the great Pat Mahomes.

We know how this story ended.

Travis Kelce, the all-world Chiefs tight end, was heaping major praise on the Bucs.

“That team has some dudes that can play the f*cking game,” Travis Kelce said of the Bucs. “They’ve got great coaches. They’re offensive and defensive lines, man. Those dudes, they’ve got big dudes out there moving the pile.

“Everybody seems like they are in tune with the gameplan. So that was not an easy win by any means. I have a lot of respect for those guys.

“When [Bucs quarterback] Baker [Mayfield] gets hot, he is fun to watch. I’m sitting there on the sideline thinking, ‘Man, I do not like this feeling in my stomach watching that last drive in the fourth quarter.”

And then Travis Kelce came with the money quote.

“Happy they want for the [extra point],” Travis Kelce said. “It gave us a chance to get our offense back out there on the field in OT.”

Later, Travis Kelce said he went up to Bowles and told him it was “an honor” to play against him. Still, as much as Kelce likes Bowles, he said he would have gone for two. He said the Bucs had the momentum.

Playing in Mahomes’ crib, Kelce said you don’t want to give him a chance to get up off the mat.

Jason Kelce fully agreed but defended Bowles. He said when Doug Peterson was coaching the Eagles, a very similar circumstance happened and their attempt at a two-point conversion on the road failed. But the elder Kelce said Bowles should have gone for two.

Travis Kelce isn’t the only member of the Chiefs who was happy Bowles didn’t go for two. That decision made Andy Reid’s night.

Ask the Bengals how that worked out.

  2. Crickett Baker Says:

Ya and two best receivers are out.

  3. Bucswin? Says:

Momentum? Bowels using momentum? In fact most of the frustration watching him coach is the feel of the game. He has none. He actually kills it. The KC loss is just another insurance. You can hear the grumblings in the stands when he makes a duucision. Players have to win despite their head coach, despite the refs and playing another team that understands momentum. Why Baker was so upset when he lost the toss. He never touched the ball again. He just got going”had momentum”. Only needed one more play! At least our new OC seems to get it. Unlike last year. 3rd n long anyone? Which team will show up tomorrow? Go BUCS

    Kelce wins a cookie.

It was an honor to play against you Todd thank you for helping us stay undefeated. The only reason this game is getting so much attention is Todd’s decision to go turtle. Going for the extra point isn’t conversations or aggressive it’s just what a guy with his demeanor does or anyone does as if it’s the first quarter of a game. This is just the head coach we have

  9. August 1976 Buc Says:

COURAGE Hello Todd, COURAGE. Keep playing it safe Todd.

It seems the Bucs cannot get away from a 500 average record over Todd’s tenure

IT TAKES COURAGE, if you ever will take this team to the next level. You took the ball out of the offenses hand????

Unless Todd has a eureka moment, this will be how things are.

    GO BUCS!!!!

I respect Travis and Jason’s comments. Nonetheless, we will never know what would have happened if the Bucs went for two.

Reading between the lines; Jason’s comparison to Pederson wasn’t a positive spin either. He got fired from the Eagles and is on the hot seat again with the Jags.

hey is kelce and taylor moving to canada with all there friends… lmao

  12. DJB Says:

Pretty easy for Kelce to heap praise on Bowles and the Bucs after catching 14 balls.

  13. Lt. Dan Says:

Zac Taylor, Bengals Coach on going for two, “We came here to win” LOVE IT.

Way better than, “We came here to tie”

  14. Stillabucsfan Says:

Bucs somehow via a miracle beat Kansas City after getting the 2 point, and we don’t get f’d by the missing pylon cam the week before and I feel we are 6-3 tied with Atlanta for division lead. But it didn’t play out that way and we are here.

  15. JustOneGame Says:

I heard Bowles will elect to go for two and use a timeout to start the game today if the Bucs when the coin toss!

  16. View from 132 Says:

How did Kelce and Kelce become someone we should pay attention to? Meathead brigade a la Joe Rogan. No thanks.

  17. Doughboy Says:

So what we’re saying here is that Coen is saving Bowles job because the offense clicks and the defense sucks. One can do his job and other well.

  18. Buchen61 Says:

Who forgot to flush the toilet Bowles

  19. Jw94buc Says:

And Jason Kelce shouldn’t throw stones, when he lives in a glass house.

  20. Ol' Boy Says:

I really enjoy listening and learning about the sport of football from players that are All Pro, elected captains of their respective teams. Yeah they weren’t just placed there and given words to parrot..
Yep I love me some football. Go Bucs!

  21. StickinUp4Centers Says:

Suppose the Bucs were successful in going for 2. There was still around 27 seconds left on the clock and the Chiefs had timeouts. They only needed a field goal at that point. Ask Buffalo how much time Mahomes needed to get into field goal range a few years ago in the playoffs. It was something like 17 seconds with no timeouts.
