Flashbacks Yesterday To Bucs Loss In Kansas City
November 18th, 2024This has been a good football weekend for Joe (not so much with Joe’s short-term investing). Including Thursday night’s NFL game and Friday night’s Big Ten game, Joe inhaled nine football games loafing on the couch sucking down beers.
That’s what you call living!
That’s 27 hours of solid football in four days. Damn, Joe loves this time of the year.
One reason Joe was able to inhale so much football was the Bucs had a bye.
One game Joe watched yesterday was the fun Kansas City at Buffalo game. Awesome finish. Drama. Excitement. Intrigue.
Or, as one follower of Joe’s on Twitter typed last night, Bills coach Sean McDermott showed he had the balls of church bells.
Buffalo ball. Fourth-and-two. 2:17 left. Bills hanging on to a 23-21 lead. Kick an easy field goal and force the assassin in red, Pat Mahomes, to score a touchdown. But giving Mahomes two minutes to score is like handing the Chiefs a cheat code.
Go for it on fourth down and fail? Mahomes is maybe three or four passes from setting up the Chiefs for a game-winning field goal.
Kick a field goal to go up five? Mahomes has plenty of time to put together a game-winning drive.
So what do the Bills do? McDermott put the ball in the hands of his best player to kill off the Chiefs. Stud quarterback Josh Allen (who is as big as a Coke machine and fast too) took the snap, ran right and scored from 26 yards out. Ballgame!
Joe couldn’t help but flashback to the Bucs when they lost to the Chiefs in Kansas City a few weeks earlier.
The Bucs scored a touchdown with seconds left to come within one point. All too predictably, the Bucs took the safe route and chose not to go for the win by scoring two
The rest was even more predictable. The Bucs kicked the extra point, Mahomes got the ball in overtime, marched down the field, scored a touchdown and won the game.
This shows the difference in attitude between the Bucs and the playoff-bound Bills. McDermott, having been burned by Mahomes way too many times over the years, had no interest in keeping him and the Chiefs in the game. He went for the win. A stake to the heart.
Bucs coach Todd Bowles two weeks ago? He decided to bank on his defense which even he should have known was not just cooked that night, but overall an awful defense prone to choking away potential wins. And that’s exactly what happened.
The Bucs? Rather than put the ball in the hands of their best player to win (Baker Mayfield), the Bucs instead banked on hope that lesser players (the defense) wouldn’t make a mistake.
Yup, we all know how that turned out.
The Bucs, way, way, way too often, are fully content with banking on hope. And that, boys and girls, is a big reason why the Bucs are on the brink of collapse as they stand 4-6 with seven games left in the season.

I couldn’t help thinking the same thing. That’s Todd Bowles, he’d still go for the tie if he had a do over. Nice win for the Bills, but can they beat Mahommes in the playoffs when it counts?
November 18th, 2024 at 5:11 am
Todds nature is to play safe so thats what he does time and time again. If we had the Steelers D fair enough, but we dont, so need to take risks to turn some of those L’s into W’s.
November 18th, 2024 at 5:35 am
No intestinal fortitude Bowles late game stumbles and bumbles are infuriating. We couldn’t even attempt another onside kick against the Ravens when Godwin was hurt. Bumbling Bowles will Blow it again it’s just the Bowles nature to lose and play scared. No risk it no biscuit. To let’s hope and try to cope.

The Bills game was awesome! Watching Josh sliding through to the red zone was something else! I thought the same thing. Baker can do that too!
November 18th, 2024 at 6:08 am
Thought the same thing when I saw that live. Amidst all the frustration about our missed opportunities and embarrassing defense this year, watching the Chiefs lose was just great. I never get tired of seeing band wagon fans reduced to that confused and betrayed expression when “their” team loses. And also, what true fan of football doesn’t love watching the Chiefs squirrel mascot bang itself on the head when something goes wrong? Let’s all send their mascot some acorns and their “fans” some Swift albums to help them all cope.

Hopefully, and soon, Repus Bowles will be yesterday’s news.

Our problem always has been n always will be Todd Bowles. Doing things his way has not n will not work in the modern nfl. Heâs selfish n stubborn. He inherited BAâs Super Bowl team n has proven he doesnât know how to sustain what BA left him with. With all the close games we lost this season, with BA running the show, we win. However, Bowles is fixated on proving to folks this is his team n not BA so heâs going to do things his way, which again, has not worked.
Below is my reason that Bowles must go:
Head coach of Jets:
2015-10-6
2016- 5-11
2017-5-11
2018-4-12
After inheriting a Super Bowl/Playoff winning team from Bruce Arians:
Winning teams such as Chiefs, Lions, Bills, 49ers all went out to add new players to an existing playoff/Super Bowl caliber team but when opportunity presented itself, Bowles says âBuccaneers donât need any new playersâ. âSelfish n Stubbornâ

the chefs had a red zone play at the goal line with 4 receivers on one side and 1 on the other- play looked indefensible, 1 of the 5 was bound to be open- TD chefs… Glad the Bills won but the Bucs should’ve used that play and got the 2…
all this talk about run the table, im not sure they can beat the Giants- i have 0 confidence in this defense, tired of the bucs ruining my weekends and mondays

Iâm sure the Glazers have taken notice, itâs been a consistent approach across the league to go for the win. Bowles isnât wired for modern day football, certainly not as a HC. Arians would have went for the win, he played very aggressively. Bowles plays hoping to not lose and itâs why heâll always be around 9-8. Bucs have a history of making controversial coaching changes with Gruden replacing Dungy, Raheem replacing Gruden. Both Dungy and Gruden did more for the franchise, took the team farther into the playoffs than Bowles. I donât see him surviving beyond this year. He coaches as if he preferred to be fired so he can collect a check while heading into retirement.

Bowles would have kicked the FG to go up by 5 and the Bucs would have had an impressive 2 or 3 point loss ,, moral victory !!! Even losing in OT Iâm sure Todd claimed moral victory,,, well we have enough moral victoryâs this year,, we need real Ws
November 18th, 2024 at 7:22 am
I’m not a huge Bowles supporter just not a fan of the conservative game calling and script. I do have to remind myself though that this team is in full rebuild mode. With the recent injuries we’ve got the youngest starting lineup in the league. I’m surprised we’ve been able to stay competitive with the best teams in the NFL. That being said, I wouldn’t let Coen leave without strong consideration to the Head Coaching job here. Bowles I’m sure would be a great defensive coordinator once he has given up as a head coach.

What a waste of a promising season. A G A I N.
November 18th, 2024 at 7:35 am
dmatt – Thank you for those stats.
The Jets were a different team with different dynamics going on at that time. And possibly, Bowles doesn’t have the last say to what players they can bring in during the season. Yes, he said they didn’t need new players, however we just don’t know for sure who were the deciders. Possibly, not all on him. And Todd still has the respect of all the players.
November 18th, 2024 at 7:47 am
Soooooo refreshing…! A coach that goes for a win and not a tie. Wonder what that feels like?
November 18th, 2024 at 7:48 am
Would we be 4-6 absent the injuries?
November 18th, 2024 at 8:03 am
Teams like the Bills know how to win, Todd Bowles knows how to play not to lose and that always ends up as a loss. Another team that looks like it knows how to lose those close games is the Bengals, man they choked away yet another win versus the Chargers this time via missed field goals and a late defensive collapse. But hey, at least they went for 2 against the Ravens trailing 35-34 last week and though coming up short at least their coach tried to win and did not play it safe like Turtle Todd. If Todd’s D gets boat-raced by the Giants, it is time to start working on a short list of candidates for head coach at One Buc unless they have already started after the latest loss.
November 18th, 2024 at 8:23 am
Bowles is never aggressive offensively. Bucs should be at worst 5-5, at best 7-3. However, Bowles decisions cost us against Atlanta (x2) and KC.
You could throw in the SF game also, but I’ll blame that on the SF kicker for even allowing the Bucs to be in the game.
November 18th, 2024 at 8:40 am
I’ve been getting crushed all season with “short term investing”. It’s been an unusually brutal year for me in terms of wins and losses, not financially brutal.
November 18th, 2024 at 8:49 am
Exhibit A that instead of a head coach and defensive coordinator, Bucs have a sad circus clown who makes fans cry.
November 18th, 2024 at 10:23 am
@Joe – to your point, the announcers mentioned this too- that the Bills were the only team this year who did the right thing against KC- go for the kill instead of playing it safe.
Clock management and critical situations have never been a strength of Todd Bowles. Just look at all our one score losses this year.
November 18th, 2024 at 11:20 am
Pathetic mindset to do that when they did. SHould have just went for teh damn W.
I can’t recall many fans ever being like ‘MAN WE SHOULDA PLAYED FOR THE TIE THERE!”
November 18th, 2024 at 11:58 am
My thoughts exactly!
November 18th, 2024 at 1:36 pm
I cant believe there is still Todd Bowles apologists posting here. Hes done nothing of consequence in 7 years as a head coach. And i just don’t mean nothing i mean absolutely nothing…. Its time to cash out.
November 18th, 2024 at 2:06 pm
Yep and now you got Larry Foote out there saying he doesnât care who is at QB, itâs gonna be a game in the 4th quarter vs the Giants.
I get the message is donât take these guys lightly but thatâs what is in Bowles head every game. âWe got time, just limit mistakes and if we have given ourselves a chance to win it near the end we have done a good job.â No, stop it!
Hereâs a message. We have 7 games left and only way we make the postseason is winning 6 of them. Does anyone in this room think the Giants are better than us? Here is our plan, first step towards the postseason is punching these guys in the mouth early and often. We donât want this to be a game in the 4th quarter, we wanna be up 20 before the end of the 3rd and Vita and Evans can take some reps off.
