Falcons Rise Up To 6-3; Injuries Mar Win Over Cowboys

November 3rd, 2024

“Mr. Glazer, look at the final seven games on our schedule.”

Joe watched bad football this afternoon as the Cowboys visited Atlanta.

Dallas fell to (3-5) and lost quarterback Dak Prescott to a hamstring injury in the second half. It was one of the stranger things Joe has seen; Prescott pulled a hamstring throwing from the pocket without getting hit or pressured.

What next? Will Joe pull a groin carrying a tray of Hooters wings?

Cowboys receiver Cee Dee Lamb got banged up (shoulder) as well, and Falcons Pro Bowl defensive tackle Grady Jarrett left the game with an Achilles injury.

Dallas dropped touchdown passes but couldn’t manage to rattle Kirk Cousins and the Falcons, which upped their record to 6-3 after the 27-21 win. Dallas also had a mind-numbing mix of poor coaching decisions and bad penalties.

So Atlanta now has a 1 1/2-game lead on the Bucs in the NFC South. But Atlanta owns the head-to-head tiebreaker edge on the Bucs by virtue of beating them twice.

The only good news out of this game is the Bucs face the truly miserable Cowboys in Week 16 on Sunday Night Football.

Watching all the teams wearing throwbacks every week really points out how great the Bucs orange jerseys are.

Just, for the love of God, never ever ever do a throwback to the awful Nike alarm clock uniforms. Those should get the AI treatment and be digitally removed from everything, to the point that people question if they ever happened.

  2. Buc4evr Says:

Bucs are not going to win the division this year. Hopefully they can get a wildcard slot if the defense can get its act together? That’s a big if….

  3. Dr. Bucenstein Says:

Yes, it will be a tough go the rest of the season. We should have beat Atlanta the 1st game, but we allowed them to put the game in overtime. That may have been the deciding factor of this season.

  4. Bucben1961 Says:

Only real question is who is going to replace Todd

  5. Austin Says:

We got alot more money to spend this off-season

  6. John Mason Says:

Joe…..It sure looks like the Buc’s have packed it in for the season…very little chance of a Wildcard due to the records of other NFC teams. Jason Light has done nothing to help the team with the two missing starting receivers …not to mention the helpless defense. If the team management is packing it in its gonna be hard to watch the nx couple of games. If I’m wrong why does Jason Light not make some kind of deal? Bowels would like to keep his job right…Do you agree with what I just posted?

  7. Dave Pear Says:

First of all, Lovie Smith II is the perfect cure for any miserable team. He’s proven he can take a Dallas team that was flailing for weeks in 2022, come into Tampa for a playoff game and promptly look like the 1995 Cowboys. The following week they returned to the sewer.

Jason and the Glazers need to take action Tuesday morning after the public humiliation Lovie will cause Monday night.

Second of all – It’s over. Lovie had two chances to beat the Falcons and botched them both in epic failure fashion. Fire Lovie, again, for the first time.

  8. Mac Says:

Atlanta has played the tough portion of their schedule. Bucs have zero chance of winning the division. I have accepted that 2 weeks ago prior to even playing Atlanta the 2nd time. Our defense and head coach just aren’t good. Tomorrow is an L. We have to hope to beat SF next week get to 5-5 rest up during the bye and try to finish 5-2 last 7. Although guessing 3-4 or 4-3 under our leadership! He’s just average and that gives us a record to match him!

  9. Rod Munch Says:

I saw this posted online, reminded me of all the people in the comments here that wanted to sign Derek Carr.

Most losses as starting QB thru:
    4 seasons: David Carr 43
    5 seasons: David Carr 53
    6 seasons: David Carr 56
    7 seasons: Derek Carr 63
    8 seasons: Derek Carr 70
    9 seasons: Derek Carr 79
    10 seasons: Derek Carr 87
11 seasons: Derek Carr and Archie Manning 91

  10. StormyInFl Says:

The equally inept Buccaneers are fully capable of losing to the Cowboys, too. That will be the week Jerruh finally decides to launch McCarthy and Dallas gets a boost from it.

  11. Rod Munch Says:

I’m behind on all the NFL drama… Slant Boy Michael Thomas was also bashing Derek Carr. I love this stuff.

“Derek Carr for you I been told yall s–y sad.”

“Dude scary and panic and just throw the ball. Get him the f out of here he so a–.”

“Dude tried to lie and say I was jealous of them making Chris WR1 whole time he can’t even get him a decent ball.”

“They fired all them coaches trying to cover his flaws up he still doing the same s–t.”

“That year his buddy [Davante Adams] went 1st team all pro in 2022 he needed 180 targets just to catch 100 passes. He is a–”

The part about needing 180 targets to 100 catches is fantastic, in particular coming from slant boy and his 5 yard routes.

  12. Rod Munch Says:

Speaking of Carr, it looks like if the Saints wanted to do a post-June 1st cut next year they could get out of his deal with only a $30m cap hit. That stinks, I was hoping he’d cripple them for many years with his deal.

  13. richbucsfan Says:

The Bucs’ pirate ship is sinking fast. 5-12

  14. Pelsbuc61 Says:

Stop worrying about the Falcons and realize Bucs are doomed as long as Bowles is in charge. Also, Licht needs to draft LBs, CBs, WRs and especially edge rushers. Britt is horrible , LVD is done, Winfield got paid and regressed, Dean needs to be replaced , Kancey and Vita are part time players, Hall and JTS suck. Other than that, the defense is just fine.

  15. Bucben1961 Says:

Rod…only one speaking of Carr is you….I think you are looking for joesaintsfan com buddy

Bucs finish 8-9 or 9-8… typical Bowles season

  16. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Our division hopes went down the drain with the two losses to Atlanta & it will be an uphill climb to win a wildcard spot…..We need to somehow pull off a win in the next two weeks.

    __________

But those uniforms were the JayMiss years.
We certainly can’t erase all that majesty.

    😀

  18. UKBuccaneer Says:

Jameis was in full Jamieis mode today. Like old times.

  19. Darin Says:

Raheem will get em in. The guy is a solid HC at this point. Much improved from his time here

  20. Kenton Smith Says:

We haven’t quite reached the halfway mark. We haven’t played our way out of anything. Quite the contrary. Detroit is the best team in the NFC. I think Washington and Philly are the next level. We’ve beaten them all. It’s all about how you finish. Our offense top 4 or 5 in the NFL. Atlanta isn’t as good as we are. They got lucky beating us. I think our season begins tomorrow. Look forward to everyone’s comments tomorrow night.

  21. Xristos Says:

If things dont change, especially in Defense we cant win the Division.
Its not about Atlanta its more about us. We dont play good football.
We have to be honest from what we see on the field.
    Go Bucs

  22. Wild Bill Says:

Sheesh Kenton I respect your loyalty for the Bucs, but reality bites hard. Too many injuries to too many key players and questionable coaching at the top make it very unlikely the Bucs will dig out of the hole they are now in. Based on what they have shown recently it seems unlikely they make the playoffs. Hope springs eternal but reality bites hard!

  23. Fred Says:

Do they have Chuckie on the phone yet?

  24. Buc4evr Says:

Defense is filled with players that should not be starters on any team in the NFL. We have 4 guys that are true NFL starters on defense, everyone else is a backup or a scrub that should be on the practice squad. I don’t see any reason why they will get better. Look at JTS and Hall, both lost causes for the last two years. The offense is going to have to win games if the Bucs have any chance. Bowles doesn’t inspire confidence and now is just making excuses. He needs to be gone.

  25. Jw94buc Says:

Licht had ties with New England. Brady had ties with New England and Tampa Bay. Bring in Belichik for a visit at minimum. The talent is there. The coaching is not. I’m done holding out hope this season is what it is. Injury ridden.

  26. Kenton Smith Says:

Rod Munch I always get a good laugh out of your posts. Don’t agree with most of your assessments though. No Problems there. Lately you’ve spent some time bad mouthing Sean Tucker. I want everyone to remember that-your take on his skills baffles me. He’s a star waiting to be born. He’s gonna be a big part of our second half run. That’s what I’m thinking.

  27. Rod Munch Says:

Kenton Smith – Tucker is a super basic north/south runner, no moves, doesn’t pick holes, just runs straight ahead like Michael Pittman used to do, who I also thought sucked. Runners like that can do fine if they get exceptional blocking, like he did after the Saints quit, but outside of that what has he done exactly? He had one nice run vs the Ravens, again, when he had a huge wide open field in front of him and got like 15 yards – otherwise he did nothing. But, to my credit, I did say I like that in the return game – I like basic north/south runners there and when he finally got the chance to do that, he proved me right. Why they’ve taken touches from him in the return game, I don’t know.

Anywho, if he becomes the next Emmitt Smith then you can dunk on me all the want. However, that isn’t going happen, he’s just the next Keyshawn Vaughn. Thankfully, however, Tucker didn’t cost the Bucs any picks.

  28. Woodenman Says:

There you are with that Belicheat crap agian get the hell out of here with that crap. Go be patriots fan.

  29. unbelievable Says:

Our missing receivers are not why we’re losing games.

    It’s the defense, dummies.

  30. MegaFailure Says:

bucs will be 4-6 by the time the falcons are 7-3. division basically unwinnable now

  31. Pewter Power Says:

The Glazers love that type of optimism from people who watch Bucs but not nfl football. Yes we beat Washington, Philly and Detroit but as always the first month of the season means nothing just ask the Ravens who started out 0-2. And no you don’t get lucky beating a team twice, not an in division rival where you know each other’s personnel. It’s hard to know if you’re clowning or just a football dummy

I agree Rod Munchis bumped his head by comparing Sean Tucker to Michael Pittman though. north/south runners isn’t basic it’s the whole point unless you prefer the Rashad white types and if I remember correctly only one running back on the roster has ever won offensive player of the week. Tucker only weakness is blocking. He’s the fastest back on the roster and looks to be the most explosive he just doesn’t move like Bucky. The heart condition is why he didn’t get drafted in case you forgot. I wouldn’t take him over Bucky but sure as hell would take him over rashaad white. Buck and tuck would get us a Monday night win

  32. Fred McNeil Says:

We might win. They actually bother to play the game for a reason. Go BUCS!

  33. Anon Says:

Trade a 2026 7th round pick for a playable inside LB and get the #1 seed.

    Vs

Keep that pick because it’s precious and miss the playoffs

  34. Let ‘em bake Says:

Don’t sell on the division just yet…. 5 and 5 at the bye, and we’re in business. Besides , I got a live 4 team parlay that needs the Bucs to show up tomorrow😊

  35. Dave Pear Says:

Chiefs might have 40 at the half.

  36. Mike Says:

Rod munch you have to be the dumbest individual I’ve seen on this website my goodness

  37. MadMax Says:

    @Rod…
    Haha agreed

  38. Rod Munch Says:

Carr responded: “I don’t know what I did to him. I don’t know why he feels that way. I’m sorry for whatever he’s dealing with to make him feel like he’s got to do that.”

What a lightweight, no wonder he’s such a loser. How do you think Tom brady would respond to the help calling him out?

  39. Rod Munch Says:

Pewter Power – Can you point me to a few of Tuckers impressive runs where he’s made all sorts of moves and made people miss and picked up yards — that occurred during a competitive NFL game? Normally all he does is just run into the back of his offensive lineman, aka, the same thing Michael Pittman did over and over and over again as Gruden fed him the ball – instead of giving Alstott the ball.

I thought Tuckers college tape wasn’t impressive, when he had his chances last year he looked terrible, this year in the preseason he didn’t do anything until the 2nd half of games, and this year during the season he had a big game vs the Saints who were missing half their defense – and most of that yardage came late in the game when they were down by 30.

Anywho, as I said, if he hits, fantastic – I’d love to see the Bucs have another stud RB. But I do not see it. Bucky and White are both worlds better, which is why they’re playing and Tucker isn’t.

  40. Rod Munch Says:

On a different note, how would this defense do as a 4-3 defense?

Kancey and Vita as true DT’s would be great. Yaya as a 4-3 DE who isn’t dropping into cover on 50% of downs would be something. In fact in a 4-3 defense, the Bucs have a bunch of potential DE prospects who could just concentrate on pass rushing, instead of pass coverage, and likely they’d all be better fits.

The problem is that you only have one 4-3 LB on the roster, and that is David – who likely will retire. There isn’t another guy on the roster, other than Dennis, that could play LB as they’re all too slow. On a positive side, 4-3 LB’s are a lot cheaper than 3-4 OLBs.

If the Bucs did dump Bowles after the season (and I’m not calling for that to be sure – at least not now) they should go back to a 4-3, I think it would better fit the talent. In any case they need to get a lot faster at LB.

  41. BillyBucco Says:

Every team that scored 30 won this weekend.
We average near 30 and are 4-4.
Why do I believe if we score 30 tomorrow night, it won’t be enough?

  42. Rod Munch Says:

BillyBucco – I don’t think you need to worry about scoring 30 tomorrow – this isn’t an awful Falcons or Saints or Ravens defense. This will likely be a lot more like the Broncos defense – not quite that good, but likely the 2nd best defense the Bucs will play this season. Would love to see Baker go out and have the game of his life, but without Evans or Godwin and facing a top tier defense, it could be a long night. Hope not.

  43. Ed Says:

Unfortunately the Bucs have picked the worst time of the season to go on this losing streak. At 4-4 they are sliding. Eagles, Commanders, Vikings, Falcons, Cardinals, Rams, Lions, Packers are all playing well. The Bucs are falling. Without a win tonight they are falling so deep in a hole that even with a more favorable last 7 games they are going to be on the outside looking in. 9-8 will not get a wild card this year. They have to win division and that means a 10-7 record and if Atlanta has same record they win division so let’s see if they can find a genie in a bottle and upset KC tonight.

  44. Costa Rica John Says:

The Bucs might not be able to catch the Falcons but I believe they will still win 9 games this year.

  45. Mike Johnson Says:

The guy many of you here laughed at has the Falcons ballin out. Raheem has learned from his past mistakes. They are flat out ballin.

  46. Larrd Says:

Let’s be honest. Every trip to Hooters ends in a groin pull or two!

  47. drdneastup Says:

By the time the Bucs play the Cowboys the ‘Girls will probably have all of their injured players back like Michah Parsons and Dak Prescott. Parsons will be the biggest problem.
