CBS: Zyon McCollum First Half All-Pro

November 15th, 2024

People are noticing.

One of the best surprises of the first 10 games was a guy Joe was really concerned about prior to the Bucs’ season.

That’s cornerback Zyon McCollum. Given his sketchy play as a backup, Joe almost thought Bucs coach Todd Bowles was reckless, anointing McCollum a starter after Carlton Davis was traded to Detroit.

Couldn’t Bowles have held a competition?

As it turned out, Bowles knew what he was doing. McCollum has been fantastic. It took 10 games for McCollum to have a bad game and that was last Sunday against the 49ers.

As it turned out, McCollum was playing hurt with a bum hamstring and he couldn’t finish the game.

McCollum has had such a good year that prickly Pete Prisco of CBS believes McCollum is now one of the best corners in the game.

In a story published last week, Prisco named his first-half All-Pro team. McCollum is there.

A lot of expected top corners, guys like Sauce Gardner of the Jets, have not played as well as anticipated. That allows a player like McCollum to get a spot with Surtain and Humphrey, two solid veterans also landing on the team. McCollum has been one of the bigger surprises this season, but the Bucs raved about him during the summer when I visited for camp.

If the Bucs plan on making the playoffs, they have finish the final seven games no worse than 6-1. For that to happen, both Jamel Dean and McCollum have to be healthy, and stay healthy.

If Josh Hayes and this Tyrek Funderburk are your Bucs starting corners, Joe’s got bad news: don’t plan on the playoffs.

He’s been an amazing find. Not just good, but elite. If he played in the northeast, Cali, or Dallas he’d be a superstar already.

Heybguys just a friendly reminder. Todd bowles needs a testicle transplant. I’m done with him. He screwed Godwin, he didn’t go for 2, he saves timeouts. He demands runs up the gut like we got A train back. He definitely needs a shot of super strong testosterone. At his age his testosterone is probably that of a 11 year old boy. Coward he is. Can’t stand him.

“”If the Bucs plan on making the playoffs, they have finish the final seven games no worse than 6-1. “”

Maybe we should try and win ONE game right now. Bowles has failed miserably after another promising start. They either fire him at the end of this disaster of a season or the fan support will start to bottom out. His defense is an absolute embarrassment.

  4. Steven #55 Says:

The playoffs effectively starts now for the Bucs – Win or the season is done!

  5. Bojim Says:

    Doing great!

  6. Proudbucsfan Says:

This defense hasn’t been this bad since Lovie Smith walked the sideline at Raymond James stadium and then Mike Smith took over and had our corners lining up 10 yards off opposing receivers. Look familiar ? We are 30th and 31st in every category, Todd no balls has to go or get forced to hire a defensive coordinator that can fix this awful defense.

  7. zzbucs Says:

As long as he doesn’t play like last game he will be fine…..

  8. StickinUp4Centers Says:

“If he played in the northeast, Cali, or Dallas he’d be a superstar already.”

More INTs will get a CB that status regardless of where they play.

  9. rrsrq Says:

You could see the athleticism last year and he was not afraid to tackle, it was just about confidence with him, I actually felt better with him in the game than CDIII last year. When they traded CD III I thought we would get better, but also I knew Dean would continue to play 10 yards off when the opponent needed three yards for a first down.

  10. dmatt Says:

Jamel Dean should’ve been cut loose n not Carlton Davis. CDavis n McCollum would’ve made a good combo as cbs.

  11. Mike Johnson Says:

You guys are in denial if you think we are going to any Playoffs. You kiddin me?

  12. JimBobBuc Says:

The only two guys on defense that are better than I expected are Zyon and Tykee. Whitehead and Winfield are playing worse than I expected.

  13. unbelievable Says:

Is Zyon healthy? Any updates there yet?

  14. ModHairKen Says:

    zzbucs, spot on. Spot on.

  15. heyjude Says:

Todd did do right with Zyon. Once his hamstring heals up, expecting him to have his breakout year.
