Bucs Soon To Play Internationally Once Every Two Years

November 13th, 2024

On Sunday morning Joe typed how NFL strongman Roger Goodell is looking at eight games next season to be played on foreign soil. That meant there is roughly a 50/50 shot the Bucs play a game next season outside the United States.

If there are eight games, that means 16 teams likely will be involved. In other words, half the league.

Per Albert Breer of SI.com, the league has a plan, approved by NFL owners, that each team will play an international game every other year. And, each team will be required to give up a home game to host an international game once every four years.

Breer typed that’s why Goodell is eyeing eight foreign games in 2025.

NFL owners have already agreed to a model that’ll compel each of them to give up a home game every four years, and play internationally every other year. The eight-game setup allows for that, where 16 teams go each year.

Given the Bucs are one of a handful of teams with marketing rights in Germany, and that the Bucs recently opened up a bar on Marienplatz in Munich called “Krewe Embassy” (sponsored by Killian’s if you can imagine!), the chances the Bucs return to Munich seem good.

Goodell last week from Munich (where the NFL attempted to wreck decades of strong relations between Germany and the United States by assaulting the locals with the Giants-Stinking Panthers game) was asked about rumors of the NFL playing in Berlin next year. Goodell responded, “Believe them.”

Berlin city government this week voted to make a putsch push to host an NFL game for the next five years. Joe will take a stab and say the Bucs will be playing somewhere in Germany in 2025 or 2026.

They seriously need to stop this crap because it’s not fair to the fans here. People like the season ticket holders who pay good $$$$ for the tickets. Only to have the stupid league do this constantly. They don’t care about football. Those countries care more about soccer. The league needs to stop trying to make it all international.

  2. BA’s Red Pen Says:

First step in their 30 year plan for a division in Europe.

  3. Mike C Says:

Tony, we don’t pay for the game they take. Our season tickets are just less that year.

  4. Bucsgoham12 Says:

The International games should be pre season, I don’t think that crowd cares what players are playing. They cheer for everything so no real advantage, Bucs played in Japan in 2003. Go back to doing it that way, let the regular season be for the home fans so they can impact the games that matter. NFL will still get revenue from pre season.

How come the Bucs always give up a home game to play overseas while a team like Dallas always is the road team and does not lose a home game?

Is this by design for the Glazers to make more coin In London or Germany while someone like Jerry Jones makes more in Dallas than he would in Europe? This should be changed to make the Glazers play a road game in Europe while the Cowboys give up a home game once in awhile… I guess it is about the coin.

For some of us the international games are the only way to see our teams live without costing a small fortune. Ive been to all 3 Bucs games in London but missed out on tickets to Germany due to the demand on Ticketmaster.

Been to Raymond James a few years ago (beat the Giants with the last kick of the game). Will be back at some point but will have to plan a family holiday around it.

Fact is there is a huge demand from fans worldwide to see live NFL games and as a business they are going to chase the money.

On Sunday the stadium was full of 49er fans so its not as if season ticket holders are missing out as they are selling off their tickets anyway.

The NFL owners have already approved, so it’s pretty much a done deal for the future. Just wondering how streaming venues will eventually play into this.

With the NFL making so much more money, my hope is that since we have active military deployed in Germany, Spain, and other locations that the NFL does invite them to these games too, free. Saluting our troops all year long everywhere they are. It would mean a lot to the players, coaches, and our military personnel. And there are many Bucs fans deployed overseas too. Go Bucs!

Steven #55 – Good points in your comment.

  8. Tony Says:

    @Mike

No I just meant it’s just not right for all of the fans here overall to lose our on home games when all those countries care more about is soccer. All because they feel like they need to try & make it international.

I m a Bucs fan here in Greece. My brother is a Seahwaks fan. We started to watch NFL in the late 90s.
I get why many fans there in the US dont want to lose games. I understand it. I really do.
I m happy because i get more opportunities to see an NFL game and my team.
I watched Seahawks vs Raiders 2018 and Bucs vs Panthers 2019.
I got to watch live the Winston experience hahaha we had like 6 or 7 turnovers.
Was not able to go to the Munich game vs the Seahwaks a couple years back because tickets were gone in like 10 minutes.
Anyway i just want to say to some fans that think people here have no idea about American football and we cheer to everybody or we wont understand which players are playing. I dont want to offend anybody but that its just stupid and naive. Many fans are watching American football, we do understant the rules, we do know the players and some maybe understand it better than fans over there. Yes football (or soccer for you) are way more popular, basketball too. That does not mean that we dont know American football. The popularity of the NFL has grown a lot around Europe the last 10 years.
    Go Bucs

  10. Steven #55 Says:

Xristos – i was there for that Winston experience against the Panthers too. Complained to my friend (Commanders fan) the whole way home about how we just needed a QB and the Bucs would compete. Even joked about getting Tom Brady in free agency which actually happened lol

  11. Xristos Says:

Hahaha Steven. It was what it was.
I think we have evolved. Nowdays we have the Soft Zones experience.
We know what to expect. Sometimes we hope that we will see something different. In the end though we see what we see most of the times.

Always? As in the one and only time the Bucs played overseas.

It’s a fantastic experience and rather than complain, you should embrace it and make the trip.

  13. Kansas95Bucs Says:

    These overseas games suck

  14. Pmike Says:

There are way more international fans than a lot of people realize. Same is said for the NBA, that is why they chose to drop TNT and go with platforms that showcase to an international crowd.

All sports are changing, either get on the bus or be left in the dust!

  15. Joe Says:

    Joe can say this:

If the Bucs play in Munich in the next two years, cobble together your nickels and check the seat cushions. Save what you can and go.

It was one of the best experiences of Joe’s life — not from the football end but from the tourist end. It was Joe’s first experience on foreign soil. Never had a passport before.

The five days Joe spent in Munich was awesome. And in Munich, there is no language barrier. Virtually everyone speaks English, even the menus in restaurants were bilingual. It was wild. Joe’s had more trouble in Miami with a language barrier than Munich. That’s no joke.

They even drive on the right side of the road!

  17. Dave Pear Says:

Seeing a game in Germany would be really cool after the Bucs get a real head coach.

  18. JTHV Says:

If you already don’t go to games, please shut up.

The NFL’s ultimate plan is to have a 930am game every Sunday Weeks 2-17 so more televised football? Yes please.

I have Bucs season tix and I can care less if they have 9 or 10 home games every other year.

  19. Bowles4President Says:

@Joe thank you for the advice. I’m only been to the Bahamas, and that barely counts as international

  20. Xristos Says:

    There you go Joe lol
First time we see greek in the site.
I ve been following you guys for years now so i m always here i just dont comment very often.
I must admit though this season and the frustration that our Defense creates i have commented a lot hahahaha

  21. BucNasty Says:

Preseason games should all be played overseas. No one here gives a crap about them anyways. Still waiting for one of these foreign teams to play a regular season soccer game in the US…. still waiting….
