Bucs Primed To Lose A Night Game

November 12th, 2024

The folks in charge of sharing good football with the masses are locked in on a Bucs game.

A ProFootballTalk.com story focused on the Bucs-Cowboys game in Dallas on Sunday night, Dec. 22, being ripe for getting booted from prime time.

As writer Mike Florio noted, the Cowboys were flexed out of a Sunday night game in 2020 because they were playing so poorly, as was their opponent at the time. Now, the Cowboys are 3-6 and without their quarterback, they are in the midst of a complete implosion.

At this point, everyone knows the Cowboys are cooked. Dak Prescott is reportedly done for the season, and the Cowboys have been horrendous at home. While plenty of folks might tune in just to enjoy watching the Cowboys further implode, the NFL traditionally has not been interested in the schadenfreude demographic.

Typically, the NFL is required to give teams (and fans) only six days notice of a schedule change due to a flexed game that late in the season.

Prior to that Cowboys game, the Bucs face the Giants, Panthers, Raiders and Chargers.

That would be cool…I personally hate when the Bucs play the late game. Just me being selfish.

  2. BucU Says:

Who the F would watch these 2 loser teams? I’d rather go to the dentist.

  3. D Cone Says:

Eagles vs Commanders could be for the NFC East lead at that point. Vikings vs Seahawks and Broncos vs Chargers could have Playoff Positions at stake.

Doubt they would move the Ravens vs Steelers back a day but that will probably be the Marquee game that week.

At a current 7-12 combined record it would almost be as thrilling as Cowboys vs Panthers. Then again that Premium matchup will happen the week before in week 16.

By week 18 it would not surprise me if Canales has the Panthers in position to take over second in the Division after NFCS has played the AFCW. Would not put it past the Panthers to hang the only L on the Chiefs perfect season either.
Canales has got them capable of beating teams on their level (Raiders, Saints, and Giants) and the way the NFL is I could see them knocking of a premium team like the Chiefs before finishing up against some So So’s

The Bucs are ALWAYS primed to lose a night game.
Dallas has nothing to do with that fact.

  5. heyjude Says:

I am okay without the night game too. However, I can see Jerry maybe having an issue with this.

  6. Pewter Power Says:

That’s less about the Bucs and more about Dallas, they are Americas team despite us drafting Jameis Winston

  7. Dewey Selmon Says:

Then they should start moving Thanksgiving games around also. My wife’s cooking is bad enough and now I’m stuck watching Cowboys/Giants during my holiday meal.

  8. Buchen61 Says:

Good they can use that time to look for Chris Braswell

  9. Cobraboy Says:

No problem. I hate night games anyway.

  10. ElioT Says:

Good, they’ve got to be one of the worst prime time teams in NFL history.

  11. Mike Johnson Says:

Braswell, JTS,..Where are they? Where is our pass rush coach Bowles? You say we don’t need any more players? I can’t wait for you to pack bags at seasons end.

  12. Fred McNeil Says:

I’m with the crowd that doesn’t like the night games so much. Especially if the BUCS are playing.

  13. Farmer Says:

As a UK fan I would be more than happy with losing the night game, 1am kickoff here for night games are rough!

  14. Ed Says:

We lose every night game since Arians beat Dallas in opener years ago

  15. Dave Pear Says:

The other interpretation is more accurate.

Lovie2’s Yucs are primed to lose night games, day games, road games, home games, all games. Who really thinks Lovie2 can beat anyone?

    Deja Vu all over again.

  16. Hodad Says:

Just came to me we have to win three of those next four games just to get back to .500! A lot of you would be glad if we got bumbed from prime time, myself included, but I’m guessing the Glazers won’t be happy. I doubt if the Glazers are happy we’ve lost every prime match up this season. I don’t think the Glazers will be happy with our home record this season. They should be really pissed losing the division to Raheem of all coaches, and missing the playoffs. Bowles is safe till seasons end, but he can stop wearing shades, his future is not looking to bright!

  17. DoooshLaRue Says:

    ^^^^^
2 games will get us too 6-6.

  18. FlBoy84 Says:

Easily see us going 2-2 over these next 4

  19. Rod Munch Says:

I love night games as it means I can watch RedZone all day – which is fantastic. However the amount of hate nationally, from people bashing the Bucs and Cowboys for being in Primetime, would be quite overwhelming (95% based on the Cowboys getting yet another Primetime game to be sure).

I can’t imagine they don’t move it, and it’s probably for the best. Also I think the Bucs would have a much better chance to win a 1p or 4p game, as we know Bowles primetime record.

  20. Jerseybuc Says:

Play early. We have a bad history with cowboy night games.

  21. It's Corn Says:

yeah I love the 1pm Sunday games so I’m fine with it flexing out of night time, even to 4pm.
