Baker Mayfield Gets A Shoutout From Kyle Brandt

November 12th, 2024

Second-favorite play of 2024.

The accolades are rolling in for Baker Mayfield.

He didn’t have the greatest of games on Sunday. Missed some receivers. Couldn’t find others who were open. And generally, the Bucs receivers played like the backups they are.

As Joe pointed out, the injuries at receiver finally caught up with the team.

Well, Mayfield fought his arse off nonetheless to keep the Bucs in the game. The stiff-arm he threw on Nick Bosa on fourth down with the Bucs at midfield trying to make a comeback (or win it) was one of the best efforts you’ll see from any quarterback.

Tom Brady, who was the FOX analyst for the game, said it was one of the best plays he’s ever seen from a quarterback.

High praise.

More high praise: “Good Morning Football” co-host Kyle Brandt took to his podcast “10 Takes” to claim that Mayfield stiff-arm of Bosa was one of the best plays he’s seen this year.

“Baker Mayfield made my second-favorite play of the season,” Brandt began. “My favorite play being the Saquon [Barkley] backwards jump.

“What was that play where Baker stiff-armed Nick Bosa for what felt like 30 seconds and then threw a completion for a first down? It was so weird.

“I don’t know what Bosa was doing. But Baker was just awesome.”

Brandt added that Mayfield is busting his nads for what feels like a lost cause.

“I love Baker,” Brandt said. “It’s so easy to root for him. The Bucs just don’t have it right now.”

No they do not. Sadly, the injuries have caught up with the offense.

Mayfield will have to put the offense on his back — like he did in that stiff-arm — and probably have to score 30 points a game from here on out if the Bucs hope to make the playoffs.

The Bucs can’t count on the defense and, at this point, they shouldn’t. The defense has shown it can do a good job losing games, just like Sunday.

Winning games? The defense hasn’t won a game since beating Detroit and suffocating the Eagles.

If there was a head coach who could take the defensive coordinator to the woodshed, privately, and tell him the truth, we might have a prayer of seeing improvement. So what has to happen is, Lovie needs to take himself into the woodshed and just beat the ever-loving sh!t out of himself. That is unlikely to happen and would be very unproductive anyway. He’d probably miss his face and break something important in the shed.

For the next regime, Jason must forbid the head coach from also holding a coordinators job, or calling either plays for either coordinator.

Clock is ticking on Lovie. Yay.

    Verily.

    Rhett Bomar said that.

Ironic that some here think that we have found our franchise QB. Ironic in that we now do not have the team that many of us thought before the season began. No matter who the HC will be we now must look to 2025 to maybe have the “Superbowl ready” team we dreamed of having this year.

    Go Bucs!!

  3. Al Says:

The only good players that JL brought in have been free agents. He is the worst GM at drafts.

  4. Mike C Says:

Well Detroit threw 5 picks, so maybe Detroit is just inconsistent on offense?

  5. jb47 Says:

Al, you clearly do not follow the bucs if you think licht is the worst gm at drafts. He’s most likely the best gm the Bucs have ever had with drafting. The amount of pro bowl players he’s drafted makes him one of the best.

Good stuff from Brady and Brandt.

Baker plays offense as well as defense! I could watch that video 100 times of him strong arming Bosa! Loving it!

Please do not dignify people like Al with a response, who are clearly erroneous, unsober or both.

As usual, I concentrate on JTS. He got his second sack of the season – -hooray, hooray!! He was totally unblocked ran in and sacked Purdy. The only reason I can think of is the 49r offensive line forgot about JTS altogether. Maybe they thought he was a sign post to Dale Mabry.

Let’s see, second sack in how many games?

    Dear Bucs fans

    Dear Bucs fans,

At the beginning of last season, SI predicted your team would win one 1 game. It was your turn for a rebuild. Instead, the heavens gifted you Baker Mayfield, and the rest is history. Every fan base wants the Brady/Bellchick Mahommes/Reid set up. But guess what: That’s not your God-given birthright. For any remaining ingrates who find Baker unacceptable, get a clue.
