Baker Mayfield Could Add To His Already Top-Shelf Season

November 10th, 2024

Strong 2024.

“This Joe” often referenced Baker Mayfield’s 2023 season, his first with the Bucs, as a career year.

It was.

Mayfield damn near got the Bucs to the NFC title game. For a guy who was begging for work in March 2023, not bad.

This year, Mayfield is out-performing last year. With Bucs offensive coordinator Liam Coen, Mayfield is among the NFL’s best. He leads the league with 25 touchdowns, 23 of which came through the air.

Those 23 touchdown passes also lead the NFL.

If Mayfield throws for (at least) two touchdowns today, he will …

• Tie Tom Brady in 2021 (seven games) for the longest streak of games throwing multiple passing touchdowns in team history.

• Join Tom Brady (2020-22) as the only quarterbacks in franchise history to record 25-or-more+ touchdown passes in consecutive seasons.

• Tie Tom Brady (2022) and Josh Freeman (2010) for the eighth-most single season passing touchdowns in team history (25).

So it appears Mayfield might just one-up his career year last year with an even better season this year.

No doubt, Baker will do as stated in the headline. If he doesn’t score 40+, Bucs will lose.

    They will lose.

Sad for Baker, but the light at the end of the tunnel is a proper and real head coach coming.

Everyone knows that I arrived to this site when Baker was signed. A lot of fans weren’t happy about it due to all of the negative press on him generated by the Browns. I told you all to be patient to see what might unfold. We got us a QB!

    Ex-Browns02,

You know the truth of the horrible way Baker was treated by Browns management after he played the entire 2021 season with an injury. The Browns are getting their comeuppance after the worst deal in professional sports history. The Deshaun Watson deal shows the depth of Browns incompetence.

2023 as some of us have said was a floor year for Baker. 2024 is half over and Baker is on pace to throw for 40+ TD’s in what will be a 10 win season. Unfortunately, until Bucs get a dependable defense this team is not playoff ready.

  4. Drunk Bucs Fan Says:

There will still be people that think he needs to be replaced because he “isn’t Patrick Mahomes”. So what if he’s not? What if he’s just our Matt Ryan. I think I can live with an MVP and a 28-3 lead in the Superbowl.

  5. Gipper Says:

Patrick MaHomes playing with an equivalent Bucs defense would be 4-5 right now.

The Bucs need to make a HC change during the bye (a first for the Glazers) and make Coen the interim HC and see how it goes. This season does not appear to be going anywhere.

Tough call. The Broncos giving up two first round picks, two second round picks, a fifth round pick, and three players for Russell Wilson and a fourth round pick is right up there with the horrible Watson deal. Probably a tie!

  8. Badbucs Says:

Disagree @Dbbuc711. Coen would not have an answer for the holes in the defense, plus be responsible for OC, and the HC duties. We’d be setting him up to fail. Maybe it could be done in the off season. I still think we just need to get Todd a DC. Pay Coen a ransom to stay.
