Zyon McCollum Said Bucs Need To Work Harder

October 22nd, 2024

Not everyone worked?

Joe isn’t sure if cornerback Zyon McCollum was suggesting the Bucs didn’t prepare enough this week for the Crows, or that his teammates were too quick to make business decisions.

After the most depressing loss Joe has seen maybe since the 1999 NFC title game, McCollum told the local pen and mic club that the defense needed to bust their tails more.

“I feel like we saw everything that we saw on film, and we just need to do a better of attacking from the jump,” McCollum said. “Every series is a new series. We know how dangerous Lamar Jackson is and all those weapons, and we just have to do a better job of playing every single snap as hard as we can.”

Well, first, this is leadership. Second, Joe can promise you McCollum was busting his tail.

Ever see a cornerback drag three defenders to the end zone from 20 yards out like McCollum did last night for what looked like a Bucs touchdown? (It was not a touchdown. McCollum was ruled down before he started his fumble return).

McCollum was busting his behind. But Joe saw someone else in the secondary that sure made at least one business decision late.

Zyon is a stud. Got beat a few times, but overall hes our best CB.

Just checking in Joe they fire Bowles yet? McCollum u speak the truth but be sure before u speak u dont get beat as bad as u did last night but still I rather have u then Dean.

  3. Pewter Power Says:

Oh boy I wonder how many more games we’ll hear that we have to do better comment. Every week teams that can make in game adjustments destroys his defense.

  4. Baker Bowl Says:

Felt a lot like the Broncos game but way worse. Usually after a loss I just want to vent about what went wrong but waking up this morning I’m just sad. I hope Godwin isn’t done as a Buc…

  5. LVMYBUCS Says:

“Not everyone worked” See this why I hate Bowles he sees the slackers in practice but still he plays them. #7 and #44 been balling out but u still use White let me guess its because White complained he was a starter and you to scared to tell him to sit down just like you didnt with Evans and Godwin. Bowles your suppose to do whats best for the team not induvial player u idiot. I mean damn even the Ravens took out there starters u just have no clue how to coach dude

  6. Lord Cornelius Says:

That was one of the worst losses I can remember. So many moments of soul crushing / puke inducing feelings that just felt wrong.

Game should have been 21-7 Bucs if not for a unicorn once in a lifetime Wirfs holding penalty and then the Mike Evans hamstring injury drop.

That hamstring injury / dropped pass is like the visual representation of our season right now.

This team has no identity on defense which is unacceptable considering we have a defensive minded HC and plenty of talent. Bowles blitzes like he’s playing Madden, if he’s got a hot hand, sure we look great but the problem is his style of defense only works 1 out of every 4 games. Past two years it was a stagnant offense as to why we were losing, now we’re scoring nearly 25+ points per game and we still look on track for 9-8. The issue isn’t players, salary cap, coordinators, etc….the issue is Bowles. He’s the common denominator to mediocrity dating back to his days with the Jets. The only time Bowles looks capable was when Arians was calling the shots. He’s simply not the HC that’s going to get you past rd 2 of the playoffs.

  8. Lord Cornelius Says:

    @Baker Bowl

Same. I’m honestly just super sad for Godwin. His career and story deserves so much better than that.

  9. Time2ChimeIn Says:

Blah blah blah, this is Todd’s excuse every time they get whooped. Does he know how to fire up the troops’ rally in adversity? Isn’t that his job?

  10. LVMYBUCS Says:

Commanders got Quinn I wish we would had hired him he aint the best but he better then this clown. I Luv my boys accept for Dean but Glazers cant keep a Super Bowl wining team together like the Chiefs do each season. It cant be hard to copy what they doing draft or trade for a elite QB give him some nice WR and a running game and shore up the secondary and BAM ur done. No u hire a dope head coach and QB that isnt all that good and u dont sure up ur secondary aint u suppose to be some sort of D guru Bowles. PLEASE HIRE A REAL HEAD COACH!

  11. Marky Mark Says:

Everyone is overreacting with the doom and gloom. Yes, the Bucs deflated after the TD drop and injury to Evans. But they went down swinging. The run game is still improved although they should switch White to slot receiver and share reps with Miller. Shepard will take overvfor Evans. Bucs will be fine. Rematch in the Superbowl.

  12. LVMYBUCS Says:

@Time2ChimeIn Your joking right? He stands on the sideline mumbling like he has mental issues or something even in the locker room after a win it looks like it takes all he has just to smile. Dude is lost he cant blame d coach because calling plays he just buying time blowing our team up from inside and wasting our talent.

  13. LVMYBUCS Says:

Im the head coach of every team the Bucs play u know what i do I just throw it in the middle of the field every time like Cousins did and Lamar did. What I really dont get is how many time did we see two WR in the same spot its like they don’t practice enough so they dont know who should be where, this happened in several games this season and I blame that on coaching.

  14. firethecannons Says:

He used to be such a happy kid, just drafted on a new team, so much to learn. Now he is so serious, unhappy ?, and talented, our best corner. He is fun to watch. The Ravens are a good team.

  15. A Bucs Fan Says:

Im still reeling from Chris’s injury… damn

  16. Rican Says:

Todd Bowles defense has always been try to cover the deep stuff and give up the middle, and underneath stuff and just try to tackle them. His defense hasn’t been good since the Super Bowl

  17. FlBoy84 Says:

Love his candor, but the fact that he continues to mention the same issues after each tough loss is a sign of a deeper issue. May be time for a new voice in Tampa.

  18. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

If McCollum’s TD had stood I’m betting that would have been the angry run of the week. It should get honorable mention anyway.

  19. Upstate NY BUC Says:

I’m sorry but Britt looks totally, totally lost out there!!! Andrews &L Likely could of had 25 catches each if they wanted… Where was Whitehead?

  20. Bucamania Says:

Baltimore receivers averaged 5.3 yards of separation per target, the most separation in a game this season.

  21. Bucsalltheway Says:

Whitehead quit on 2 plays literally gave up 2 critical tds

  22. donuts Says:

Whitehead was really bad last night and he was pointing when bad plays occurred.

  23. Ed Says:

What is so galling is the Derrick Henry’s touchdowns weren’t the backbreakers of the defense, it was the way Lamar Jackson was so easily able to find wide open receivers throughout the night. I think the Ravens only punted once. Bowles coaching decision to kick a field goal when the Bucs crossed midfield was overlooked in this defensive debacle. Mayfield has done very well converting 4th downs and most coaches nowadays would go for it at that point in the game. He never goes for the kill.

  24. LongSeason Says:

We know the Bucs identity now. They are a talented yet lazy team. No wonder they are so inconsistent.
