Todd Bowles: Bucs Played With “Heavy Hearts”

October 13th, 2024

To a man, Joe’s been hearing Bucs players talk about how today was more than just another division game.

The message has been that players were performing for their city and state ravaged by Hurricane Milton.

Todd Bowles went there, too, during his postgame news conference after the Bucs buried the slimy Saints 51-27.

“I mean it makes it extra special for these guys,” Bowles said. “The biggest thing, a lot of them were playing with heavy hearts, just seeing what was seeing what was happening in Tampa Bay. You know, hearts pour out to the city. It’s a tough city. It’s a strong city. We don’t know what we’re going back to, but in our small part, this time we wanted to win one for the city. And we’re going to try and help any way we can when we get back.”

The Bucs got the job done. Not only are they 4-2, but they uplifted tens of thousands of fans that needed a respite after a rough week.

My house flooded and was hoping for a win to help lift the spirits. This helped. For a sec I thought they were going to let me down.

Just got power back before the game started. The power truck that got us back up was from Virginia. I’m grateful for all who are helping us.

Great game if you forget about the 2nd qtr. Great to see the the Bucky and Tucker combo. We might have a 3 headed monger for the running game.

    Great victory. Go Bucs!!!

My home away from home is Tampa. I love Tampa, and hope the Bucs’ win lifted spirits! God Bless, hope y’all are recovering well!

One more thing. To anyone who asks if the Bucs’ offensive identity is as a passing or a running team, I’d say “yes”!

  8. Allbuccedup Says:

Never thought Coen was that good of an offensive coordinator but I was wrong as usual. I just hope hes not one and done like Canales but with another game or two like this he will end up in Dallas or Jacksonville.

Let’s bring it for the boys on Monday Tampa, LFG!!!

Bowles is a class act. He knows that some things are more important than football. Imagine what these players and their families went through this week and are still going through! Not surprising how sloppy they plAyed in the second quarter. But the second half was a different story. They played angry and they played with heart. Proud of them

It has been a very tougher week. We love our team!!

  13. Rook Says:

Anyone who gives them crap for today isn’t thinking. They had other crap on thier minds and won anyway. I wouldn’t have blamed them if they lost.

  14. orlbucfan Says:

I called this one just like the Philly game. I would also like to see an honest analysis of the penalties in the second quarter.

New gambling angle — First game after hurricane swipes at your home. WINNER WINNER

  16. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

Road out the storm here in S TPA near bayshore. Rough night. Need a new roof, car damage, tree damage – lost power for 3 days – but we’re fine. This win and the neighborhood support helps a lot!

Thanks Bucs! All the best to our Tampa and Floridian brothers and sisters!

  17. Hodad Says:

Didn’t the Saints win the superbowl the year New Orleans was hit with a hurricane?

  18. BucsBeBack (Artist formally known as: BringBucsBack) Says:

Hodad, I don’t think so. I may have the years wrong but I think, Katrina was in ‘04 & ‘Aints SB in ‘08. Someone will correct me, I’m sure.

Great locker room speech by Coach Bowles. Loved how he gave a game ball to the people of Tampa. Coach Bowles is a terrific coach who is loved by his players. As good a coach he is, he is even a better person. It is great when the good guys win. Congratulations Coach Bowles on leading a very young team to a resilient and hard fought victory. This young team will continue to have some ups and downs but it will continue to learn and grow. I think they are a year away from being a very strong Super Bowl contender. Who would have thought that after Brady retired?

  22. '79 Defense Says:

    Nicely stated, Coach Bowles.

  23. Mike C Says:

Murph, No better time than Now, this team has enough championship experience to go with that young talent, LFG!

NO did win superbowl year after Katrina. Huge deal for the city, real Cinderella type story.
