Todd Bowles: “Fun” And “Love” Are Keys To Chris Godwin Success

October 2nd, 2024

The read-between-the-lines crowd will like this.

So Chris Godwin is having an excellent season. He’s on pace for a monster year, the best of his career. On Sunday, Godwin was his consistent self, 6 catches for 69 yards with one grab that was outstanding.

Todd Bowles was asked about Godwin on his Buccaneers Radio Network show yesterday. Specifically, the question put to Bowles asked the head coach to pinpoint what has enabled Godwin to be so consistent and successful in this year’s offense.

“I think he’s having fun. I think he really loves the offense he’s in,” Bowles replied. “He has outstanding hands and he’s a great competitor. But I think he’s out there just having a lot of fun right now.”

So, Godwin was down on the offense last season and not having fun to the point it affected his play? It’s sounds like Bowles would answer, “Yes,” to that question if he was off a microphone and away from media scrutiny.

Joe also thinks Godwin is having extra fun because he’s setting himself up to be the best available wide receiver available in free agency this offseason. That would set him up for a monster payday.

Nobody had fun with Brady apparently

Definitely the divorce year wasn’t fun for anyone but the jujitsu instructor. Just being around somebody going through that is no fun. Go BUCS!

I think Chris Godwin is a whole lot better in the slot than lining up on the outside. Last season his catch ratio was 64% lining up on the outside. This year his catch ratio is near 80% lining up in the slot.

He was being ignored in Canales Offense for half the year Joe. Mayfield/Canales was too concerned with getting Mike his 1000 yard season. No offense to Mike.

Not to mention the idiots who were saying he was washed and we should trade him for picks. He showed in the second half of last season that all those folks were full of it. Got his 1000 despite all the BS!

He is without doubt a Pros Pro. I would be very surprised if he were at all motivated by Big Payday possibilities Joe. Even though he deserves it more than most!

    Go Bucs!

They gotta pay Godwin this offseason, I can’t see him anywhere else it would hurt. I know the price tag of the WR market may mean the end though.

  7. Panhandle Buc Says:

Knew he would get back to 2019 production in the slot – where he belongs!!!

Ungodly CG14 is fully healed from his Aints cheap shot knee injury. He’s enjoying playing and obviously likes Coen’s play calling. He has a ring, still young, and doesn’t have to prove anything. Licht will get it done $$ wise. Go Bucs and CG14!!

Didn’t MRS Godwin say as much?

Would the Bucs even make the playoffs if Chris’s wife didn’t raise a stink about how he was being used??? I don’t know, but it’s definitely something to think about. He’s definitely not being ignored this season., and everybody loves Mike Evans, but Chris has better hands. These two guys can’t ever be allowed to play for another team. They just can’t.

  11. JimBobBuc Says:

Chris is a real competitor and being in Coen’s offense energized him, even during the offseason. Mariah must have really kicked his bass in training because he came into camp in his best shape. As predicted, he’s getting lots of targets in Coen’s offense. He’s far away the best WR blocker and he’s pushing the other WR’s to block better so we’re gradually seeing longer run plays. I hope we can re-sign him!

  12. Crickett Baker Says:

1Sparkey, I agree. I see no reason ever to let Chris go to another team. We should somehow find the money to keep him and I bet it is already worked out.
