Report: Mike Evans Will Play

October 19th, 2024

UPDATED: Todd Bowles’ favorite saying about an injured player who participates in a practice is, “he did some things.”

What those “things” are is unclear. Could be cleaning kickoff tees. Could be catching passes from Baker Mayfield.

So today, Bowles declared Mike Evans, who is nursing a hamstring injury, will be a game time decision for Monday night’s contest with the Crows.

Bowles concluded this because, he said, Evans “did some things” in practice this morning.

As always, you are free to guess what “things” are.

Jamel Dean will not play, per Bowles. Also ruled out is tight end Payne Durham and receiver Kameron Johnson. Bowles added Trey Palmer (concussion) is expected to play.

UPDATE: ESPN insider Adam Schefter reports Evans will play Monday. Schefter is exceptionally tight with the Bucs front office and his network is broadcasting the game.

    Fingers crossed.

  2. TampabayDJ Says:

Evans will play. And if not , we’d rather have him healthy for the Falcons and 49ers . Go Bucs

  3. ChiBuc Says:

Idk why, but I’m thinking this is Otton’s week. Godwin and rb de jour will get enough attention to free up Otton. In or out,, I’m not banking on Evans hamstring stretching the field

  4. Buc1987 Says:

It’s always that damn hamstring…oh well he ain’t gettin’ that 1000 yrds anyways.

  5. JimBobBuc Says:

I don’t want him to worsen his hammy by playing. If Palmer can play, I would sit Mike. However with Mike out, I can see Chris being doubled. Can Shep, JMac, and Palms step up and have a big game in front of a national audience or will they choke?

  6. A Bucs Fan Says:

Honestly I think Trey Palmer could have a big game if he and Baker can link up down the field.

  7. BucNasty Says:

Bring him in for the red zone. Man, we could even run a 2-back set. Put white in the slot, end- arounds and lots of motion. We have the pieces to be creative, hope Coen cooks up a gameplan with Mike less than 100%

  8. BillyBucco Says:

I think if ME13 has any say he will go. Wouldn’t surprise me if we aren’t IN THE GAME, to see them pull him though. If by any chance we have success without him, then rest him.
Mike on one leg is still a red zone threat.

  9. Esteban85 Says:

Mike was limited but vita is now questionable with a hamstring?! What is going on down there?!

I think that’s possible too…. Otton could be an X-factor. Rachaad in the pass game too. We should have the pieces to keep them off balance and guessing, will be a big game for the coaching staff…. If Liam is as good as he seems to be and Todd has an effective plan for the D, AND the players execute then we beat their a$$es in primetime!

We’ve all been around long enough to know how it could go wrong… But I think it COULD go very right 🤘🏼

  11. Commander Says:

No need to run Mike on long and intermediate routes all game. Short slants and possession type throws with the occasional long throw.
Godwin plays 88% of our offensive plays. When he’s out put White in the slot. Also for one or two plays a game have White in the slot and Godwin at X. Use White as a poor man’s Deebo Samuel.

  12. A Bucs Fan Says:

Vita didn’t practice with a hamstring injury….. this better be next level gamesmanship. If he’s actually injured Bucs chances are seriously impacted.

  13. A Bucs Fan Says:

@GoneGator – Otton has to face Kyle Hamilton and Roquan Smith all night so if he becomes an x-factor I would be ecstatic haha! With Vita’s injury popping up at the worst time the Bucs offense will need to play hero ball to win this game!

Here’s to hoping for another 50 burger.

  14. orlbucfan Says:

Coen has a lot of players who can catch balls. TEs and RBs. He’a also get a very young talented OLine who is beginning to jell. According to quite a few Ravens sites, Harbaugh’s worry is the Bucs Offense especially the receivers. Hopefully, that is a good sign. GO BUCS!!

  15. Citrus County Says:

Maybe they will double team Mike. That could work to his and Coen’s advantage. He could sort of go through the motions and be easy on the hammy without worrying about production.

  16. Crickett Baker Says:

When Eisen asked his magic 8-ball if Evans would ply, his said “without a doubt”.

  17. orlbucfan Says:

ME13 makes his choices. Hopefully, he will get plenty of med shots on the sidelines. He loves the team, and believes in Coen. He knows the offense is the key to beating this AFC powerhouse. I still wish he would rest.

  18. stpetebucfan Says:

We simply have to trust ME13 and the Training staff. (for more on them see my post following the next thread. Is it their fault? NO!)

But I found some alarming info…

“It has been reported that NFL players have a HSI recurrence rate of 38.4% and a 13.4% increased risk of reinjury if the player returned to play (RTP) within two weeks.”

I have no idea about ME13’s hammies. He knows his own body very well by now. The training staff has worked with him for a LONG time so they too and the team Doc KNOW ME’s hammies.

I’m no athletic trainer, much less a Doc, so I’ll not shoot my mouth off on this topic. I AM NOT QUALIFIED!

  19. Dave Pear Says:

Now Mike can give his 8ball to Todd for game management.

  20. Mike Says:

I have a feeling Evans will be used in a very limited role, perhaps on key downs and red zone.

  21. BradyGronk Fan Says:

There goes big Mike’s 1000 yard season. He doesn’t play and his seasonal pace drops from 900 to 800 yards. If he plays, he risks worsening a nagging hamstring injury slowing him down all season

  22. GoneGator Says:

We need to be effective whether he plays or not. WR 3 and 4 need to step up.

  23. Joe Mac Says:

He played hurt against the Saints.

    You know why?

    Because he’s a team player.

He knows if he is on the field, even at 75%, defenses scheme towards him.

He stayed on the field to open things up for Godwin.

Best 1-2 WR duo in the history of the NFL!

And to the “fan” who said he ain’t getting 1000 yards.

Go away. Mike WILL get 1000 yards.

  24. heyjude Says:

Mike Evans is all about the Bucs. He is a true team player. And for years, the heart and soul of the Bucs.

Cheering Mike on for those well deserved 1000 yards. If anyone can do it, Mike will.

  25. BradyGronk Fan Says:

Sort of hard getting 1000 yards if you’re only getting 5 passes a game, and short passes to boot. Hopefully he gets more looks and some deeper throws tomorrow.
