Todd Bowles Lauds Running Game

October 9th, 2024

The Bucs have shown massive improvement in their running game this season and Todd Bowles isn’t shy about praising his offensive line.

He went there yesterday.

Bowles told the Buccaneers Radio Network that his line was strong against the Falcons.

“I mean we got 160 yards rushing so we just got to continue to keep working at some things, back blocks and some things like that,” Bowles said. “But I think [the offensive line] is doing a good job.”

Bowles also said he liked the pass blocking in Atlanta, too, noting he didn’t see Baker Mayfield dealing with a lot of pressure.

After back-to-back years ranking last in the NFL in yards per carry and total yards rushing, now the Bucs are ranked 13th in yards per carry and 20th in yards in 2024. So it’s no surprise Bowles is so upbeat, and the Bucs have faced some quality run defenses. Even the Broncos are a top-10 run defense in yards allowed and yards-per-carry.

Last season, the Bucs’ run game went from brutally miserable to slightly subpar as the year progressed.

After five games this season, the Bucs’ run game ranks as average. How much better can/will it get come November and December?

So much emphasis on if we can run or not this isn’t the 1980’s. The only stats that matter are sacks period. If we cant get sacks we will continue to be inconsistent.

Not enough people say this out loud because we had Brady (who I love) but we won the Super Bowl because our pass rush came alive its that simple. In the super bowl specifically KC could do nothing to stop us.

You have a new offensive coordinator and coaches. It takes time to adjust but the offense is definitely improving.

The defense will get better when Winfield and others return to play from injuries.

The Bucs are looking ready to make a deep run into the playoffs.

Leave it to Todd. He just priming the fans for more ground and pound, reversion to second half Falcons and last year’s Canal Water debacle.

That run game was awesome in the last three minutes of the Falcons game with the game in hand and Bucs trying to grind clock. Wasn’t it.

My criticism of Bowles as HC is his game time calls rather than his overall team coaching. Yes, he performs well on some functions. The head coach “wears many hats”.

I love running the ball and Dominating with Big Uglys up front… This is not that team yet. Maybe in a few years… Rely on Baker this team will go as far as he can…
