The Waiting Game Begins

October 22nd, 2024

How bad?

Could the Bucs season hinge on an upcoming injury report? Well, if you judge what happened in the second quarter and late in the game Monday night, it could.

It’s now a waiting game to see the exact extent of Mike Evans’ injured hamstring and Chris Godwin’s injured ankle. Is it just a pull for Evans? Is it a tear? It is something that just looked worse than what it is?

For Godwin, is his left ankle broken? Is it just dislocated?

The Bucs’ 2024 season and quest for a four-peat division title hinges on the health of the two star receivers.

Baker Mayfield, at least for two drives after Evans injured his hammy on what would otherwise have been a touchdown catch, looked lost if not panicked without Evans on the field.

Yes, Joe may be overstating things. But did that look like the same Mayfield the rest of the second quarter as it did before Evans got hurt?

At least when Mayfield went full-blown America’s Quarterback in the second quarter in New Orleans, two of Mayfield’s picks came off tipped passes. His two picks Monday night in the second quarter were simply awful decisions.

Was the quarterback so rattled over his favorite target getting hurt that he started making brutal choices?

So now we wait. The Bucs are in the teeth of their tough four-game stretch. Yeah, they need Evans. Teams will now blanket backup Bucs receivers. The Bucs will hope a No. 1 receiver emerges from the abyss to play like a big-time receiver, even though Bucs offensive coordinator Liam Coen admitted last week the Bucs are looking for a trustworthy No. 3 receiver.

Please get well quickly, Mike and Chris.

Garbage time injuries are a Todd Bowles tradition.

  2. LakelandBuc Says:

    They will be back

  3. Oxycondomns Says:

has anyone ever seen someone push through a hamstring injury in any sport? where are the doctors to protect mike and the bucs?

  4. MadMax Says:

I always thought White could be a slot WR….(and somebody else mentioned it in another post)….so theres a small band aid Jason. I dont think he has Godwin’s speed in decision making though.

This sucks….oh well, to the drawing board we go….is it too late to work a trade for someone Jason?

  5. Bucsgoham12 Says:

Mike has been pushing through hamstring/leg injuries for years, since Freeman days. It caught up to him now since he is older.

McCown. Mike never played with Freeman.

  7. Tbbucs3 Says:

These hindsight senarios are just comical….

So let me guess, some of yall were the coach, you wouldve sat Evans and then benched Godwin in the 4th?

You cant expect these coaches to be Wizards

  8. LakelandBuc Says:

Not one commenter were complaining about starters still in the game last week against the Saints. They were running up the score leading by 3 scores with a few minutes to play. Even Baker Mayfied was bragging about dropping 50 on them.

Now it coming back on them….Karma is a B

They refuse to play Trask in garbage time
They just wanna pad Baker stars

The Ravens defense did what they suppose to do
    Put the hammer on them

  9. BucsFan81 Says:

No more WR left Joe it’s over. Get ready for draft articles and coaching candidates

  10. LakelandBuc Says:

    “”stats

  11. Bucsfantim Says:

Baker said it in his interview postgame that we’re gonna have to get creative.

I really think seeing White as a slot WR should get some serious consideration especially that we know the Buck & Tuck combo works in the backfield.

  12. Let em Bake Says:

Now we get to see the accelerated development of Palmer and McMillan.

  13. Bucsgoham12 Says:

“McCown. Mike never played with Freeman.”

Correct, he played with Glennon. Freeman was on Vikings or out entirely by that time.

  14. Tbbucs3 Says:

On the bright side, it appears that the Bucs got the best or at least 2d WR out of Washington…..

That Jalyen Polk kid looks terrible and is already a lockerroom cancer

  15. BucNasty Says:

Rakim Jarrett. He’s a good X receiver when given the chance. I think McMillan plays the Godwin slot role. You’re crazy if you think Rachaad White has the route tree to play Slot WR

  16. Aaron Says:

Down 2 scores with no timeouts and under 2min left and no more onside kicks…you hand offf and get out there

  17. Simeon4HOF Says:

If Im Mrs Twelve I wanna slap our HC. Twice

  18. unbelievable Says:

If Godwin only dislocated it, that would be a miracle.

But I doubt that’s the case. It looked broken. It was twisted completely sideways while his leg was facing straight forward. The second I saw that I knew he was done, and so was our season.

Couldn’t have happened to a better dude either. Just sucks all the way around.

  19. Anon Says:

Palmer can do a bad Mike impression for a couple weeks. McMillan was supposed to be a Godwin clone (even tho he’s small and unathletic and looks lost) Shepard can be a trustworthy #3.

If the run game proved it’s for real tonight, gut out a win against the Falcons and regroup when Mike gets back. If he’s done for the year too then it’s really over.

  20. Hearty Dikerson Says:

And this the dominoes will fall. Baker can’t throw the deep ball. He’s a decent QB but can’t win things without the help of top tier receivers. His play will nosedive and the Todd Bowles defense will continue to be a wet tissue. Season is over.

  21. Oxycondomns Says:

italking about push thru hamstring injuries when did you ever see mike limp on the sideline like that after his first td catch. he could barely walk. look at how eagles handled aj brown and his hamstring injury.

  22. Jeff Says:

Id say Evans streak is toast. Thats why you dont force stats

  23. heyjude Says:

I cried when Godwin got hurt. Felt bad for him. And watching the expressions from Baker, others, and the fans in the stadium was even more heart-wrenching. Aikman was gloom and doom on air. He is tiring as an announcer.

Love Chris and am hoping the best for his health. We all knew Mike was hurt going into this game. My heart broke for him playing while in pain. Hoping for the best with his health too.

  24. BuckyBuc Says:

Bowles is the WORST game manager i’ve ever seen. Really that bad.

  25. Buc2Blame Says:

Waiting for what , for him to drop easy catches n pulling hammys sit him for the rest of the season no need to play him he ain’t reliable

  26. shale Says:

Tennessee has an abundant amount of WR that could be traded for. Hopkins closely followed by T. Boyd. Jason time to fire up the phone…

  27. Sacker58 Says:

Seems to me it started to unravel when Baker threw that first int and went downhill after that.
Hate to make a comparison but BRADY would have thrown that ball away instead of forcing it.
Better to get some points !

  28. BillyBucco Says:

Im sure Atlanta fans are happy.
I can’t remember a time feeling this depressed on a Monday.
It is literally like Todd Bowles is CURSED.
Im speechless and can’t really do anything except pray for Godwin.
It’s so sad that in a season where he was dominating that happened.
He did enough in my mind to be resigned, but will it take 3 years again for him to have confidence with his injury?
We will be lucky to win 4 more games this year because Baker has NEVER taken the time to build chemistry with ANY other receiver but OTTON.
I really isn’t about who is open, but rather who he TRUSTS.
Also, it’s evident to me that if we really want to RUN THE BALL, we need a fullback. Tampa couldn’t figure out how to defend it.
Almost every TD was a gimme.

  29. Debbie⁴ Says:

Congrats to M1KE for his 100th touchdown. Really hope you get well soon. You are the goat. You have stats that will not be equalled. So sorry for your injury. Chris, yes, that was a pain you will never forget. It will decrease with time. Wishing a fast recovery for you both, and a rehab that is tolerable, if rehab could ever be tolerable. BTW Joe, Baker wasn’t the only one who lost it when Mike was injured, all of us did. Then that feeling happened again with Chris. Still cannot wrap my head around this. Go Bucs!
