“Some Of The Things He Can Do Changes A Lot Of Things We Can Do”

October 31st, 2024

Raise your hand if you knew in August that rotational linebacker SirVocea Dennis was the most valuable player on the Buccaneers’ defense.

Joe doesn’t see many hands.

It’s a hard concept to grasp considering Dennis rarely played last year and was banged up in August. But it almost seems to be a reality.

Starting inside linebacker K.J. Britt has been exposed often on passing downs and the Bucs don’t have anyone to step in for him now that Dennis is out with a major shoulder injury. The Bucs defense has not been the same without Dennis.

Head coach Todd Bowles has made it clear that Bucs backups behind Britt aren’t up to speed to be an upgrade from Britt in coverage. And he reiterated that today and made Dennis sound like a Vita Vea-like cog.

“Some of the things he can do changes a lot of things we can do,” Bowles said of Dennis.

Man, Joe needs a few shots of whiskey or perhaps those gummies Ira Kaufman talks about. This certainly is a strange situation, especially when Joe considers that Bowles said previously that Dennis’ injury has been around for years and he was trying to play through it.

I am just going crazy because it seems this defense is void of Devine and we all know that he shat on the bench most of last year. Bowles has to have changed his Def Scheme and it is not working. This is same cast.

  2. Drunkinybor Says:

Whatever.. Bowles is getting annoying. Fix the defense. Stop the crying and what ifs and who’s where with what. Shut it and prove it on the field. If they knew Britt could even have a dlum chance at being this bad. Then having nobody besides SirV to back him up is a really bad sign.

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We’ve invested a lot in this defense….but we have some weaknesses our opponents exploit…..

So how much more wide open could receivers be? Richard Sherman wasn’t up to speed on his defense or even in football shape bit Bowles put him out there instead of guys where were in the system. Yes Sherman was a vet probably half of fame but it’s all football. Damn Bowles are you the only one who has this 3-4 blitzing zone scheme? I guess the new guy needs to know when Vita Vea or Kancey will drop back into coverage

  5. White Tiger Says:

He was dependable in coverage, but that was likely because we gmhave no one on the roster remotely capable of that skill set.

  6. Hodad Says:

He played part time in three games including the loss to Denver where he froze on the goal line allowing Nix to walk into the endzone. Stop the nonsense. The legend of Dennis grows the longer he doesn’t play.

  7. Aaron Says:

I’m so tired of the excuses….if I’m the Glazers I’m seriously doubting our self scouting….our front office/ coaching staff put this defensive team together…it’s on them…life’s to short, I’m going to take a few weeks off from football and spend some time with my family. I’ll come back after the bye to see if we can’t turn this thing around with an easier schedule…

    Go Bucs!!

  8. Dan the Bucs Fan Says:

Never thought I would say this but it’s time to call Devon White.

  9. Usfbuc Says:

    Ship sailed on Devin White.

  10. Usfbuc Says:

To me it seems like Bowles needs to simplify his defense or something

  11. Usfbuc Says:

The good news is our offense is looking good so we can spend more picks/FA money on the defense.

  12. Daniel Z Says:

This is absurd. I see right through you, Todd.
Dennis has played about 200 snaps in the NFL and, while he showed promise, he’s not the glue holding together a defense. If he is, then why didn’t you go get or train a suitable back up?

What’s actually happened is Todd knows he needs an excuse so he isn’t blamed for this porous defense and stacking losses over the next fortnight. After that, the schedule lightens up and he can go back to barely beating mediocre teams. Then, we finish with 7-9 wins and he can tell his bosses he did a pretty good job, considering the injuries to Evans and Godwin. He keeps his job and we waste a solid roster for 2-3 years.

  13. Bucks 'n' Bucs Says:

What happened to Britt? Last year he was the savior when he replaced White. He’s still a great tackler but he can’t seem to hang with anyone in coverage. Is there no one trying to teach him?

  14. Joe Says:

What happened to Britt? Last year he was the savior when he replaced White.

    Couple of things.

Britt was new. There wasn’t a book out on him (yet).

Then, this season, SirVocea Dennis played for him on passing downs. Then Dennis went down. By that time teams had Britt figured out (Atlanta). And since he began playing full-time with Dennis out, Britt then got fully exposed.

  15. unbelievable Says:

    Bowles doesn’t have answers.

The league has caught up to his scheme and he hasn’t been able to adjust, or account for players who are limited in their abilities, like Britt.

  16. Anon Says:

If it’s true, what an indictment on Licht that there’s no one in the building to replace the worst LB in the entire league. How did he corner the worst LB market like that?

Or that the coaches don’t have anyone else up to speed half way through the season. What have they been doing all this time?

Hard to imagine at the most replaceable position in football.

  17. Hearty Dikerson Says:

What a god-awful scheme if your entire defense falls apart because a second year, part-time linebacker is out.

  18. Thisisouryear!! Says:

I keep wondering if we would be better served by moving whitehead to linebacker and playing izien in his safety spot.

  19. Tyga Says:

All this talk but yet no moves on defensive side. With the deadline looming I guess we wait n see. Winners make moves. Losers talk. Hope for 24 szn going down slowly #bucs4L

  20. Dave Pear Says:

Bakers gonna need a 60 burger. This should be called right now. Glazers should mail it in. Don’t let Tood bring his “product” on the field.

  21. Deadwood South Dakota Says:

I am praying for a Baker Mayfield miracle on Monday living in South Dakota the chief fans around here talking smack. Instead I think we’re going to get a Todd bowels nightmare. Let’s Go Bucs!!!!

  22. Dave Pear Says:

Todd might hold the Chiefs under 70, if he’s coached “communication” in practice this week. Another public humiliation on national TV coming up.
