Slimy Saints Offense Was Trending Down With Derek Carr

October 11th, 2024

NFL debut Sunday.

Joe isn’t going to call Sunday’s game a “must-win.” But it sure is a game the Bucs “can’t lose.”

To Joe, “must win” means playoffs or out, or division title or out/or a game for home field advantage. This isn’t that game. If the Bucs lose (God forbid), they are not knocked out of the playoffs, the division title chase or even home field advantage.

However, if the Bucs lose, they sure are painting themselves into a corner.

The slimy Saints, offensively, are trending down. And now they are banking on rookie fifth-round draft pick Spencer Rattler to save them. He’s yet to throw an NFL pass.

Here is why the slimy Saints offense has been trending downward, from Rich Hribar of Sharp Football Analysis.

* After averaging a league-high 4.33 points per drive in Weeks 1-2, the Saints have averaged 1.75 yards over the past three weeks (22nd).

* Over the first two weeks, only 37.5% of the New Orleans set of downs reached third down (5th). That rate is 50.7% since (27th).

Well, one way for the Bucs to take advantage is to keep their foot on the gas. Yeah, the Bucs’ pass defense was atrocious against Atlanta. But only scoring six in the second half did the Bucs in.

Keep in mind just from the words of the Bucs’ offensive coordinator Liam Coen this week, and sometimes-defensive coordinator Kacy Rodgers, Joe isn’t confident the Bucs learned from their choke job in Atlanta.

First, Coen talked about playing ground-and-pound to close out a game. Um, how’d that work out last week? No, use your best players to close out a game.

Second, Rodgers spoke about turning Rattler into a one-dimensional quarterback, meaning they want to stop the run and let him throw. Um, how’d that work out last week? One-legged Kirk Cousins threw for 509 yards and your pitiful edge rush couldn’t even get him to move.

If the Bucs let Rattler and the slimy Saints win, someone at One Buc Palace has some serious soul-searching to do regarding how they go about things.

Yeah, Joe is still salty about last week.

You keep calling the Saints slimy, why? I happen to agree with you on that, but would like to know where that’s coming from?

  2. BucsfaninOregon Says:

If they lose to the Saints with a rookie QB throwing his first pass then they could be in the first twists in a spiral down. If they can’t beat this team now, how do they beat K.C. or the 49rs or Baltimore, etc.

This is an early season defining game. Lose and it’s time to try and rebuild with a new head coach.

    Because they are slimy.

If you agree, then you know.

  4. Doughboy Says:

If anymore rookie QB beats us then someone should think about coaching somewhere else!

  5. tom d Says:

is there a way that these stories can be less full of hate? Just the word ‘slimey’ taints the story. Sounds like it came from fox news. Couldn’t you just report the news story and let the readers decide for themselves? Just saying….

  6. Pops Malone Says:

I am with you Joe and I am still salty about it. Every time I get to a point where I start to trust Todd Bowles, he lays an egg like last week. I can’t ever totally trust him. They blew that game last week. With Carr out, if the Bucs are a good team and he is a good coach, they bounce back and win this week. Now, you want to come out and play soft and let Rattler start completing passes all over the place, good luck. This is not a must win but they better win. Otherwise, you have to start rethinking who is coaching your team. Hope you are all well down there after the storm. Be well and be safe.

  7. Bucnjim Says:

The Saints have a fairly long history of trying to injure their opponents. That is the fine line between playing physically and taking out someone’s knees on purpose.

The game plan against the Bucs is attack the middle of the field and get the ball out quickly to avoid the pass rush. Even a good edge rusher won’t get to a QB that releases the ball in 2 seconds.

  8. Bojim Says:

I think it’s a must win. But that’s just me.

  9. ElioT Says:

They’re going to make this kid look like Pat Mahomes on Sunday.

  10. Watch More All-22 Before Commenting Says:

Bowles has a better record against rookie QBs than league average.

  11. unbelievable Says:

Uh, it’s absolutely a must win.

2 divisional losses and we have almost zero chance of making the playoffs considering some of the upcoming games on our schedule.

Get real. It’s absolute a must win. They crap the bed again and they mind as well book their vacations. 3-3 is simply unacceptable. If this team wasn’t so mentally weak, they’d be 5-0 right now. 4-1 at minimum. That’s what’s so frustrating.

  12. Miguel Says:

tom D, Passion and hate make this fun. The Joes know this and that’s why they’re the best fan site. This is not a news site. Take your snowflake attitude and political views elsewhere. PS- Saints are slimy

  13. Crickett Baker Says:

Joe’s opinions usually echo mine. This is not a “news” site, as much as it is an opinion site. His opinions hold more water than many of you who post here. It does seem like Coen called those plays, though, and I am still salty, too. We need to win. GO BUCS!

  14. JimBobBuc Says:

The young Bucs players love reading Joe and realize that they won’t have any problems with the the Saints. After all, the Saints have a rookie QB, they’re offense is now struggling, they’re slimy, Cam Jordan is no good, etc.

    On any given Sunday.

  15. Joe in Michigan Says:

The Bucs just need to take care of business. I know they can, they took care of it in Detroit.

What I have reservations about is Todd Bowles being slow (in the past) to make changes that need to be made. We’ll know which way this is going on Sunday if Britt is still in the game on obvious passing downs.

  16. ModHairKen Says:

Look, Rattler is not going to put up Cousins’ numbers. But he may not have to, if the Offense does not come out hot.

This game is on the shoulders of Bowles and Coen. If the Bucs lose, it will be because Bowles and Coen got gotten by that wet paper towel Dennis Allen.

  17. BillyBucco Says:

Todd isn’t slow at making changes he flat out doesn’t do it.
I can guarantee you Britt plays over 90% of the plays if Winfield doesn’t go.
He has already said he only has Dime packages with Winfield so what else is he supposed to do. That’s in his mind of course. Remember Todd had to see a player practice before he trusts him in a game. If he sees a guy make a mistake in practice they don’t play. Even though Britt makes 5-8 mistakes in a GAME every week. Somehow he still TRUSTS Britt.
    It’s so confusing to me.
Throw Dean into the mix because Bowels KNOWS he has played better and you have the frustration of Bucs fans under Bowels as head coach.
I like a TON about him, but his unfounded loyalty is a joke.

  18. go dawgs Says:

tom d^ hey snowflake why dont you go follow figure skating instead? Sounds like it would appeal to you??

  19. Alanbucsfan Says:

    Saints have a good defense.
The Bucs offense must execute to win this game, otherwise we’ll see a repeat of Broncos/2nd half Falcons game.
Get the ball to Evans, Godwin and Irving

  20. Wayne perez Says:

Agreed the saints are slime and garbage and if they beat us coach should be terminated

  21. Teflon Don Says:

Love it! lol it’s funny when you can tell which Joe writes the article 😂 you got a point tho brother I’m right with you

  22. adam from ny Says:

after the “big 509” put up on the D last week, this dude might be in some real trouble…

bowles and gang might wanna go ham on the kidd…

leave a little egg on his face too, and you have yourself a ham and cheese sammich

  23. Joe Says:

Couldn’t you just report the news story and let the readers decide for themselves? Just saying….

If Joe wanted to lose money, sure.

Joe had the most successful Bucs site out there. He has no desire to fix something not broken. 🙂

  24. Mike Johnson Says:

I hear what you’re sayin Joe. I’m just nervous about our overall track record with inexperienced and back-up QB’s. We make them look like Bonafide starters Bucs are gonna have to ball out in New Orleans with that loud crowd. And we must jump on them early. Give their QB confidence and we are hit.

  25. Hodad Says:

The fact that we’re playing a rookie backup QB getting his first start makes this a must win. The Buc defense has been exposed, if they can’t get it together enough to beat a Saints team reeling with their own injuries, starting a rookie, who can they beat? This is a must win, no sugar coating it.

  26. Vanessa Anne Says:

I’m more heartbroken than salty, but I get where you’re coming from, Joe.

Hearing Liam Coen walk back his pedal to the metal comments and Kacy Roger’s talking about forcing Rattler to throw doesn’t give me a lot of confidence.

We can totally win this game. We just need to play our hearts out like we did against the Lions and Eagles.

It’s the play calling and willingness to change schemes if we need to, that has me concerned.

  27. Bucschamp Says:

    Saints superbowl is beating bucs
