Sean Tucker May Have Found His Niche

October 10th, 2024

New kick return star?

Two (good) things Joe can take away from the nutkick loss Thursday to the Dixie Chicks.

1. The Bucs may have stumbled upon a kickoff returner.

2. And this mysterious kickoff returner is none other than Sean Tucker.

Tucker was undrafted last year because a heart ailment was detected after his final season as a running back for Syracuse. And his rookie Bucs season was awful.

Even Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht had stern words for Tucker at the combine in February.

Joe was and is still convinced Tucker wasn’t in football shape because he was grounded by doctors. How was a rookie supposed to be in NFL shape when he couldn’t work out or practice like other players?

This summer Tucker looked like a different running back. And last week Tucker blew up as a kick returner.

On two of his kick returns, Tucker advanced the ball 33 and 53 yards. The 53-yard return, Joe still can’t figure out how Tucker didn’t house it. LOL He had an absolute convoy of blockers with him.

Joe cannot remember seeing so many Bucs teammates leading the charge for a returner. Tucker’s 53-yard kick return was highlighted by him bulldozing several Dixie Chicks. Mike Alstott had to smile.

The return was so impressive that Kyle Brandt nominated him for this week’s Angry Run (Tucker didn’t win it). You can hear and see Brandt enjoy watching Tucker’s return.

Of course, Joe would like to see more before knighting Tucker as the next Devin Hester. But it was sure cool to watch — and encouraging — knowing how Tucker struggled last season.

Would be a great idea to start getting him some carries and see if he can help our offense too!

  2. Fred McNeil Says:

Heck yeah! Let him take a few carries and return a few punts too.
Wind is blowing really bad here in Orlando during gusts. I’m not going outside, but I don’t see any noticable branches or debris blowing around. I’d say so far so good for me. Hope all of you fared well too. I know it was much worse along the gulf coast. Shoot, power went out for a few seconds again. Seems to always come back on after a few seconds, though. Good luck everyone.

He seems like a good young man, hopefully he can get some touches out of the backfield. Yes, and maybe show his stuff after Baker hands off to him.

  4. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

On that big return Tucker ran with anger in his heart and violence in his soul.

  5. Bucs Guy Says:

Tucker was tackled because his convoy didn’t block anyone. They just ran alongside him.

Love this kid. We should run the wishbone

  7. Nutterbuccer Says:

How about White goes to the bench and Tucker takes his spot. Love me some Rachad White but I think it’s time to atleast give Tucker and Bucky a little more burn. Tucker is a bigger back and would pair nicely with Bucky.

    Looks a little like 4Net.

  9. Josh Says:

White should be used as a third-down back or slot receiver after this season in my opinion. He’s not an ideal running back, as he seems to lack vision for finding rushing lanes. Consider Arian Foster; while he wasn’t exceptionally athletic, he had outstanding vision. Bucky and Tucker should be the two-headed monster in the backfield, allowing White to excel in space. Screens and pitches to the outside are his forte. Let Tucker run UP THE GUT!!

  10. BakerFan Says:

Tucker would not of fumbled in crunch time like an unnamed rookie did.

  11. LongTimeBucaneer Says:

He needs to get on the field more. He can help us.

I get outta breath just watching Brandt do these segments.

  13. Cobraboy Says:

Triple-option Wishbone with White, Irving, Tucker, two wides, and Mayfield pulling the trigger.

    At least once per game.

    LOL No kidding! 🙂

Agreed that this special teams is NOT special at all. They literally blocked no one when he got to the kicker. It’s like they wanted to take the ball from him.
I would rather see Tucker in goal line situations. Watching Bucky get obliterated on 2 straight runs at the 5 and 3 convinced me.
Just can’t understand why this staff can’t figure some of things out.
Not scoring a TD there ALSO lost us the game.
Just another 1 of 20 things that did.
