Raheem Morris: “There’ll Be No Love Lost”

October 1st, 2024

One memorable moment of Joe’s career came during a heated parking lot exchange at a Lee Roy Selmon’s restaurant grand opening in 2011.

Joe was an invited guest and various Bucs luminaries attended.

Primarily, Joe was there to talk to Raheem Morris, who then was the Bucs head coach and is now head coach of the Falcons. Joe wanted to clear the air old-school style on a difficult situation. It happened in that parking lot and Raheem was eager to get confrontational in a hurry.

The Buccaneers had just been delivered costly discipline from the NFL for communicating with players during the ongoing lockout, a league labor dispute after the 2010 season. And, in a stunning diplay of nonsense, Raheem and others blamed JoeBucsFan.com.

Joe won’t waste fans’ time with the whole story now, but the Bucs got busted because Morris admitted during a well-hyped radio interview that he was talking to players, which was forbidden per league lockout rules.

Neither Raheem nor Bucs media relations thought his public chatter needed a clarification or a correction. And after the radio station archived the interview online — more than a day after Joe heard it live — Joe published a story about Raheem’s harmless non-football chatter with players. … But it was Joe’s fault the head coach was embarrassed and the team later was fined hundreds of thousands of dollars. Got it.

Anyway, that brings Joe to Raheem’s comments yesterday on SiriusXM NFL Radio saying, “there’ll be no love lost on [Thursday]” when the Falcons face the Bucs.

Raheem did not dispute the assertion by host Pat Kirwan that “southern hate” will be a factor in the Bucs-Falcons game.

Raheem talked about appreciating his former Rams colleagues Liam Coen and Baker Mayfield, as well as Lavonte David, so it was clear to Joe that Raheem was talking about his Falcons players disliking the Bucs.

The teams split two tight — and ugly — games last season, and the Bucs’ fourth-quarter comeback win in Atlanta broke the Falcons’ back in December. Atlanta was 6-6 at the time and finished 7-10.

Joe hopes the Bucs hate the Falcons as much as the Falcons apparently dislike the Bucs. That should help keep the Bucs extra motivated and on track.

No worries there is equal hate for the dirty birds and the Aints. As far as Raheem, as a HC the guy sucked. Glad he is not part of the Bucs organization.

  2. Dave Pear Says:

I can’t forget the 2011 10 game losing streak that Raheehaw oversaw with most of those games being over by halftime. I’ve never seen a team quit that hard before or since. Good for him that he’s recovered a career and all, but as a fan, it was so scarring to experience that after the 2010 mirage, I cheer for him to lose every game. Still. Especially Thursday night.

  3. BucU Says:

Let’s hope we can field a team with the injuries this team has.

  4. BillyBucco Says:

Absolutely no way do they go into this game FLAT.
They know what is at stake. The Bucs have beat down some good teams and the 2 wins by Atlanta they BACKED into them. I really wish we were at full strength and we might be by the time we play them again. You never know what can happen in a game if stupid penalties are involved, but in my opinion if both teams play clean football, the Bucs are the better team. Especially defensively. Even without 2 potential All Pros we have a better defense. Last year we wrecked that D Line. They added Judon, but on the interior Barton should have a good game. Bucky could go WILD this game.

  5. AL121976 Says:

This makes me hate them more, go Bucs, LFG!!!!

  6. Louis Friend Says:

Everything about this game says the Falcons have the intangible advantages. If the Bucs can pull out a victory and get to 4-1 then Morris and his team will truly have something to hate. There is a lot riding on this one on both sides. If the Bucs win they’re 4-1, and the Falcons drop to 2-3, two games back plus losing the head to head (like a 3 game lead). If the Falcons win it really becomes a 3-way dogfight for the rest of the season.

  7. Adam’s Angry Says:

BLAHeem did enough to embarrass himself on the sidelines and with his overall record than any phone call he might have had that violated team rules.

I hope the Falcons play EXACTLY the way I’d expect a Morris-coached team to play. Flat, listless, and confused.

  8. The Fighting Schianoes Says:

None on my end either Raheem. Hope the door hit your ass on the way out.

  9. unbelievable Says:

I am just not understanding how my posts simply disappear every day lately.

I wrote 2 sentences, no bad words, no red-flag words, but poof – into the either yet again.

  10. unbelievable Says:

    *ether, not either

  11. Crickett Baker Says:

The Joes monitor the posts but have to skip some time to go to the bathroom or eat. As much as you post, Unbe, you should know, by now, it isn’t personal.

  12. chris l Says:

joe – you should crash his media session and ask about that whole incident and demand an apology. raheem is a hype man. we definitely hate atlanta but the hate is very real for the saints and us and them and the entire league knows it.

  13. Ra'Shad Says:

I’ve been waiting on this game ever since Kurt Cousins signed. National media has put the slurp fest on full tilt since Matt Judon and Justin Simmons signed too.

  14. PSL Bob Says:

If we’re able to come out of this game at 4-1, I can easily see us getting to 10+ wins this year and another Division title. Beyond that, it’s a little early to predict, but I’m certainly optimistic.

  15. Tony Says:

It’ll be a battle of Dumb & Dumber.

    BOWLES vs. RAHEEM

  16. Rod Munch Says:

As a lifelong Bucs fan, I can not overstate how much I do not care about Atlanta, or anyone in the NFC South really.

Now, the Packers, the Eagles, those teams and fans are complete trash and it’s fun to dance on their graves. But Atlanta? The last time they were even mildly interesting was when Deion Sanders was playing for them.

  17. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We need to be youngrier than them.

    ——

God, I’d hope so. 10 wins after starting 4-1, means you’re going 6-6 down the stretch which would be quite the failure after a great start.

With that said, the Bucs, traditionally, ALWAYS lose Thursday night games vs the Falcons, generally getting blown out. I hope they can overcome that, and someone claimed Baker is 4-0 on TNF, so maybe the Bucs will break that trend.

These next few games are pretty tough, so the Bucs can’t afford to lose anything cheap. However, the second half of their schedule gets easier, and frankly you’d want to be hot at the end of the year as opposed to the beginning, assuming you make the playoffs.

But this is a tough one. Hopefully they can pull it out, then get Luke and Winfield and Kancey back, and make a trade to get Devin White so we never again have to see Britt play a snap.

  19. LakelandBuc Says:

Raheem Morris is a guy that’s full of confidence and swagger. You have to love the guy. The Glazers made him Head Coach at the tender age of 32. He’s a football guy, he’s been around, coached on two different Super Bowl staffs. He’s been a DC, DB, WR, HC, Passing game coordinator.

  20. LakelandBuc Says:

It’s easy to hate on the person

But you can’t hate on their achievements

  21. Defense Rules Says:

I think that’s a great battle cry … ‘No Love Lost’.

Falcons are improved over last season for sure, but they’re still vulnerable. If the Bucs show up with the team that played Philly, we’ve got a great chance to beat them. If we show up instead with the team that showed up to play Denver, we’re in deep doo-doo. Jump out to an early lead, force them off their game plan, then turn the dogs loose.

  22. RBUC Says:

    @Tony

Perfect example of a Clueless stupid fan that wanted Canales to become Bowles immediate replacement as HC cause his elementary English teacher approves of how he sounds(I’m not naive I know there is more to the Bowles HATE than that)
I follow the Bucs but the average Buc fan makes me sick to my stomach!! Licht is Overrated as a talent evaluator and Bowles ability to get the most out of undersized average football players is AMAZING!!!!!

  23. Badbucs Says:

We Don’t hate them as much as the slimey Saints but it’s close. They shouldn’t beat us but they’re just good enough to pull it off if we come there flat. We need to use that hate. Go Bucs!

  24. Kenton Smith Says:

The last sentence of your post Defense Rules. And I thought that I was the only seer on this thread.

  25. Gipper Says:

Any word on Goedke being available Thurs night? Really liked the 2 back set that Coen used versus Eagles. Hopefully, Coen will have a few new wrinkles for Thursday. Play action and dump off to Otton has promise to keep chains moving. Also like Godwin and ME on seam routes. That will occupy safeties and give backs room in the flats vs linebackers.

  26. unbelievable Says:

Can’t come out flat like we did vs Denver.

    Fast starts and physical play.

I think Lavonte needs to yell at them every week.

  27. Hodad Says:

I don’t hate the Falcons, I despise them.

  28. Jerseybuc Says:

Morris was part of some ugly quick blowouts. Then proceeded to say that’s a grown man football team that’s what we want to be. Dope n let’s not forget being youngry. Giants game he said that didn’t get a first down till late in the second wuarter

  29. TheMightyVH Says:

Ra Ra the Clown. He sucked here. He will suck in Atlanta.

Bucs win Thursday if they can pressure KC… get the old guy off his mark. I will say Falcons OL is good. Pressure is key. If we dont Bucs likely lose.

  30. Itzok Says:

raheem will be fired in 3 years. This year is just another race to ten for him. 10 losses

  31. Bucnjim Says:

Get back to stopping the run like we’ve done in the past. Force Cousins to beat you with London & Mooney. Take away that check-down BS as well and I like our chances. Don’t let their kicker get close enough because he will make it.

  32. stpetebucfan Says:

“We Don’t hate them as much as the slimey Saints but it’s close.”

Some of that is a result of N.O’s success against the Bucs during an era where the Falcons began fading after their SB choke.

But lets fact it. The Saints are not only DIRTY, how can we ever forgive the cheap shot to CG14’s knees…Payton’s bountygate for rewarding such hits…the Saints were good which always pissses off rivals but they also were totally classless arseholes!!! I do not view any Falcons as classless arseholes…yet! LOL

  33. stpetebucfan Says:

BTW if you needed a definition of “classless arsehole” and went to the dictionary you’d see photos of Sean, and Cam and Marshon!!!

  34. Cobraboy Says:

    Schiano > Radio Morris

  35. heyjude Says:

This is unsettling. In another post, Lavonte gave kudos to Raheem. Now we hear all this. They think they have a prize with Cousins… The Bucs need to go in like they did this Sunday. Early lead, persist, and win.

  36. UKBuccaneer Says:

They’ll play us close, and they’ll probably be favourites at home. Take nothing for granted.

  37. Rod Munch Says:

Atlanta is too boring to hate.

No idea why you gals get wound up over such a loser franchise that has never done anything and is one of the most boring professional teams in all of sports history.

  38. LakelandBuc Says:

Rah didn’t suck in Tampa, the Bucs had pathetic GMs

They went from Rich McKay to Bruce Allen and Mark Dominick

The two WORST GMs in Bucs history
And Rich McKay the BEST GM in Bucs history
They gave Rah a high school roster, and he won 10 games with it
They took the 11th win to keep us out of the playoffs
So Aaron Rogers and Green Bay could get in

  39. LakelandBuc Says:

    ** Dominik

  40. Chip offllll the bucs Says:

No doubt there’s plenty of ANIMOSITY between the BUCS and the DIRTY BIRDS!!!But Raheem Morris tucked as a coach and the BUCS need to show the World just how HORRIBLE of a coach he is! GO BUCS!!!

It’ll be a battle of Dumb & Dumber.

    BOWLES vs. RAHEEM

Based on this comment, both men are smarter than you.

  42. Mike Johnson Says:

I just hope we are ready come Thurs. Its going to be extra loud. We do have quite a few injuries also. Rah will have his players super-hyped. We have to be ready to take their best shots and deliver even bigger ones.

  43. orlbucfan Says:

Lot of dumb comments on here by people claiming to be Buc fans. Raheem Morris was forced to be the Bucs HC by the Glazer Boys. They were tied up with their love affair with Manchester United, and didn’t have a lot of dough to waste on Tampa Bay. Morris thought he would be the DC but nope. It was HC or hit the streets. He did the best he could and even had a winning season. He was let go afterwards. I hold no grudge against him. Sean Payton is another story. The Bucs, beat up right now, are the better team. The Falcons are no cupcakes. Tampa Bay better not pull another Denver showing or they will be pancaked. Go Bucs!!

  44. Drunkinybor Says:

Git a lot of friends in Goergia. They are almost to a man all fair weather fans who crow about deon. AtLampa will have tons of Bucs fans there. I fully expect a tight game until about the middle of the 3rd quarter then they will fold and give up. Kirk threw 3 incompletions in a row at the end of that game. Thats why it was a 58 yard fg. Bad clock management, new coach, offense off to a super slow Start, defense new scheme. Bucs should win this game. If Bucs don’t beat Bucs.

  45. Bartow Buc Says:

I think Raheem Morris is a great coach, experienced, well travelled, and he will eventually be a successful NFL head coach. But not yet. Coach Bowles is a much better coach and is following the path of the legendary Tony Dungy. Todd Bowles has done an exceptional job of having the Bucs prepared for every opponent as evidenced by our winning record in the regular season and pre season. I just hope coach Bowles wins his Super Bowl (s) with the Buccaneers.

Now add our OC (Coen)who is obviously a HUGE improvement over Canales, and the Bucs are so much more prepared offensively.
If the Bucs execute well and play the Falcons with as much intensity as they had when playing the Eagles. Bucs win !! Bucs win !! L G !!

  46. garro Says:

If Rah Rah had been a better HC and not insisted on being the BFF of a bunch of under performing over paid players he might be more apt to accept responsibility for all of the stupid goings on back then. Somewhere BA is going WTF?

    Go Bucs!

  47. nick houllis Says:

lets be honest here, Raheem was given the team because the Glazers (and everyone else) were cash strapped in the middle of a depression. They gave Raheem no free agents (ok I lied. a punter. he got a punter) and yet Raheem pulled off a 10-6 season with 2 good players. The guy was on track to be our DC for years to come but life didn’t work out that way. you can’t blame the guy for being mad. Go Bucs!

  48. Boomer Says:

Our owner is very excited, they haven’t had an opportunity to be this excited for 15 years and they are really pumped up. They’ve got a chance for a franchise quarterback, man. That’s our quarterback, to quote T.O.” – Head Coach Raheem Morris on drafting Josh Freeman per the St. Pete Times

And what happened? I don’t care how or why he got the job. HC in the NFL is a big deal and spending nights clubbing with your QB was not a winning formula. Zero team discipline when he was head coach.

  49. SlyPirate Says:

As a Bucs fan, I don’t dislike ATL any more than any other NFL opponent. I feel sorry for CAR most of the time. I hate the Saints. I hate the organization, the fans, the uniforms, everything. More than any team in any sport. In 2020, winning the Super Bowl was just icing on the cake. Beating NO is the playoffs was the greatest win.
