Rachaad White Consoles Bucky Irving

October 4th, 2024

Rachaad White breaks free (finally!) Thursday against the Dixie Chicks.

Joe may not be the biggest fan of Rachaad White when he takes a handoff. But as a teammate, he seems to be a quality guy.

Last night after Bucky Irving had a brutal fourth-quarter fumble in the overtime loss in Atlanta, Amazon cameras showed how upset he was. Apparently, various Bucs tried to calm him down.

Joe saw left tackle Tristan Wirfs was following Irving around and talking to him. And apparently, so did White.

Affter the game, White was asked how he tried to console Irving.

“Just got to keep going,” White said. “It’s the NFL. He hadn’t ever fumbled in his life. I was the same way. I hadn’t ever fumbled in my life until I got to the NFL. It happens.

“Bucky’s a competitor. He blames himself, and that’s what I did before. Just keep his head straight. Keep going. He’s got confidence.

“It is what it is. It happens. It’s part of football.”

Look, Joe is not going to kill Irving. He’s a rookie. Rookies play like rookies.

It’s really sad if not painful because it appeared the Bucs were headed for a knockout score and the offense laid a big ol’ rotten egg.

Also, it’s hard for Joe to kill Irving because the defense did get a stop on the ensuing possession.

  1. Larrd Says:

He’s probably never been face masked so much, either.

  2. David Says:

Yeah, that was a rough one for the rookie

Can’t blame it on one thing.
    Bad turnover,
some bad third and long defense,
two weeks in a row the O looks great and then disappears in the second half
And what happened to the emphasis on tackling?
The injuries to the D definitely not helping, but that’s an excuse

  3. Bucs since 76 Says:

Late in the game ball security is a must and he knows this. However two hands on the ball and not fighting for the extra yard are areas he needs coaching on, should have ready been done.

  4. Brandon Says:

Seemingly, both Godwin and Irving had the ball tucked away well and Bates made superhuman plays to knock the ball out. I mean, yeah, you can’t fumble, but both guys aren’t known for putting the ball on the ground and appeared to have the ball secured.

  5. David Kilmer Says:

Hi, yes you had to feel bad for the rookie as he has done so well. I did see White consoling him, the cameras picked up on it.
Yes ,he is in the nfl and the other guys get paid too. Bucky and the rest of us need to give credit to Bates,, heck of a play and guess what, he did the same earlier to Godwin, who has been around awhile. Nothing to be happy about, but hey he was not careless on his part. Bates came in and had an incredible angle to knock the ball out!!!. You know what that was? , yes great defense!!!, something we needed more of. Bucky will learn from this.
Keep your head up Bucky, the oher guys get paid to make plays too!!!

  6. Mike Johnson Says:

Irving was not why we lost the game. Our repeated inability to stop the Falcons
lost us the game. You cannot outscore an opponent when they score more points than you. Blame our Defense or lack of one.

  7. FortMyersDave Says:

At least Irving cares and hopefully he will learn. Irving has the talent to succeed as does the offense if Turtle Todd lets Coen go for the jugular. Unfortunately I cannot say that about Turtle Todd’s defense, I think the Panthers or Tua-less Fins could have put up 500 yards on that unit last night. Changes are needed but the head coach is extremely stubborn and unwilling to adjust or adapt.

  8. DBS Says:

Other teams always make adjustments at halftime. Todd never does. Other teams get quality backup players. This team does not. This team does not even invest in quality pass rushers. The secondary has been poor for years. And Dean should surprise nobody. Last nights late news before it was going off was stating the game was nothing more than who wanted to give it away more. A few seconds later the sports director said Tampa did it was over already in seconds. That is terrible Todd to be looked a on local TV.

  9. Tbbucs3 Says:

Irving is gonna take another year before he can be a breakout star….needs to bulk up and be able to finish through tackles better, got stuffed in the red zone too….so stick w White as the RB1 for now

  10. A Bucs Fan Says:

Two primary reasons the Bucs lost: Their second half offense was bad and the defensive gameplan with Britt on the field all game is why Kirk Cousins threw for 500+ yards.

  11. Bartow Buc Says:

Hopefully Bucky will learn from that fumble and protect that rock better in a crowd. Just can’t believe how we would power into the red zone and then loose yardage during the second half.
This is a good team we have to move forward, correct our mistakes and beat the Saints !!

    Go Bucs !!

  12. A Bucs Fan Says:

Bucs had a 50% pressure rate. JTS, Logan Hall, and Diaby all were each credited with 5 pressures each! KJ Britt sunk em on defense.

  13. A Bucs Fan Says:

    ^ Wrong thread.

  14. LakelandBuc Says:

What killed the Bucs were 50 yards passing in the second half

Which led to a measly 6 points
The defense was on the field too long

The Falcons ran 60% percent more plays than the Bucs

  15. LakelandBuc Says:

The Bucs didn’t get the Memo

The game is 60 minutes (2 halfs)
    Not 30 minutes ( 1 half)

  16. Oxycondomns Says:

he shouldnt have been running with the game on the line

  17. El HEFE Rick Says:

The same guy did it to Godwin to be honest bates was just going for it last night both Godwin and Irving had the ball tight but bates just was knocking ish out

  18. heyjude Says:

Bucky is sensational to watch already. He is a rookie and will learn from his errors and will grow even more. Good for Rachaad for being a supportive teammate, taking him under his wing.

  19. Dave Pear Says:

Todd is so rotten at coaching situational football. In that situation Bucky should have automatically gotten both arms around the football like Playoff Lenny did. Coaches are supposed technique for situations that become habits. Too bad Bucky had to Lear the lesson this way instead of in advance.

Just a pitiful display of coaching defense, and then the offense was infected with the same virus in the last two minutes.

    Disgraceful.

  20. Chief Says:

I don’t care if he fumbled. I’d rather he be in on every running play than White.

Besides the defense, the calls to run Rachaad White up the middle repeatedly on 1st down in the 2nd half is what beat us. White cannot break a tackle to save his life. It’s a wasted play that keeps getting called. I’d rather Baker throw it 50 time like Cousins did. He has juice and it far more successful than this crappy running game with White.

  21. GoneGator Says:

RW sucks (as a runner) and Bucky should get more/most of the carries. Rachaad is THE LEADER of the worst rushing attack in the league the last few years and it’s not the line, or scheme, it’s him.

Just ask Joe…. Or read almost any article about the run game or backfield published here in the last year or so if you don’t believe me 🤣

  22. Rod Munch Says:

The fumble p/o’d me off, but in the flow of the game, it was actually a good thing since the Bucs defense was able to get the Falcons on the field in 4 plays, ending in a turnover – so the Bucs came out of the fumble with better field position and additional time off the clock.

What does bug me is that Bucky should have got up after that face mask selling it to all the world, acting like his head was nearly ripped off and making sure the refs called it and throwing a fit if they didn’t. I suspect Bucky thought the flag on the field was for the facemask however, because who would ever suspect the refs don’t throw a flag for that, but instead for a phantom holding penalty, a 25-yard swing that literally cost the Bucs the game.

With all that said, White looked like the better player last night, and looked like the better player last week as well. Amazing what happens when White has some decent blocking. Nothing against Bucky, he looks good as well and brings a different energy, but with the game on the line, why isn’t the ball in the hands of either Baker, Evans, Godwin or White?

  23. frankie Says:

looks like arthur blanks check to the refs cleared during the 4th quarter

  24. unbelievable Says:

Defense only got a stop on 3 drives the entire game.

Offense went turtle in the 2nd half and only scored 6 points.

All around failure, aided by some bad luck and terrible officiating.

Last night may have very well costs us a tie breaking to make or not make the playoffs. But hey, at Todd Bowles kept almost all his timeouts in his back pocket again!

  25. Florida Cat Says:

Dude was devastated side line. Kept looking up for
    jesus .

  26. OrlandoBucFan Says:

Joe loves Bucky but reality hit this week. Bucky got stuffed multiple times going up the middle, drop a pass, couldn’t get a first down when needed and fumbled the ball in the fourth quarter. Rashad out rushed him, has the longest run of he year and always out catch Bucky. Suck it up butter cup, Rashad deserves to be RB1… btw I like Bucky and he is a good change of pace RB2.
