Only Five Teams Have Better Records Than The Bucs

Joe is feeling too much Bucs depression among fans.
That’s compounded by a historic hurricane churning toward Tampa Bay.
It’s unhealthy. And it’s not fair on the Bucs’ front.
After the conclusion of Week 5 games last night, only five NFL teams have a better record than the Bucs (3-2) and two of those clubs have their lone losses at the hands of the Tampa Bay: Detroit (3-1) and Washington (4-1).
Only four teams in the NFC, including the Bucs, have three wins in the conference. And in-conference record is a key postseason tiebreaker, along with head-to-head performance.
Joe’s point is that the Bucs are sitting in excellent position — even better potential shape now that it’s unlikely quarterback Derek Carr plays for the slimy Saints against Tampa Bay on Sunday.
The Bucs offense is dynamic. The quarterback is having a career year. Heck, even the run game is surging, and it seems the Bucs are legitimately closer to putting to difference-makers back on the field in Antoine Winfield, Jr. and Calijah Kancey.
Like everyone else, Joe is sickened that the Bucs literally were one second from a victory on Thursday, (Thanks, Jamel Dean!) and that they choked away a win in multiple ways to an average Falcons team.
Still, the Bucs are in strong shape and Joe won’t lose sight of that.

That Atlanta loss was an emotional peak and then pretty quick valley – Bucs fans aren’t used to big 1st halves/weak 2nd halves – for decades it’s been the reverse – we usually leave games “dang they showed promise, if only they had a a decent first half”…. and now it’s “they were cooking and they choked!” … so we’re leaving games super disappointed.
Not to say the overreactions haven’t been extreme, but that’s probably a big part behind this year’s Bucs fans’ psyche.

Has anyone changed their opinion about Kirk Cousins fitness for this season? Is he washed up and will he be a difference maker for the Falcons this season?

Falcons got lucky. We have injuries and the refs messed with us toward the end. I am still thinking positive about the Bucs. The hurricane, very worried for everyone.
Jack – I still believe Cousins is a wild card and the Vikings are doing really well without him. Kirk looked frazzled at times during our game Thursday night. It wasn’t all perfect.

Yea sorry it doesn’t matter, Detroit was on a bye and all that matters is record in the division for now.
Yea we’ll get two of our best defenders back but doesn’t change the fact that there’s no edge rush. If BO Nix can be coached to carve up Todd Bowles scheme then what’s his value

I agree, the Bucs have a good team. It wasn’t so much that they lost to Atlanta on the road. Many predicted a Falcons’ victory. It was the way they lost. They never should have lost that game. That’s what has so many of us down in the dumps. A win against the Saints would certainly be the elixir we need to get over that Thursday night debacle.

bucs are lumped in with a gazillion teams that are either 3-2 or
2-3…
there are only 4 teams with elite records in the entire nfl
(4-1 or 5-0)…
and only 7 teams with abysmal records (1 win)…and only 2 of them in the nfc…
the bulk of the league is currently log jammed in mediocrity at 3-2 or 2-3

Nine NFC teams are at 3 Wins or better. With only 7 Invitations to the Dance it is a crucial part of the season. .500 going into the Bye would not be the worse place to be.
Playing the Commanders Week 1 could turn out to be a real positive. Not that the Bucs could not beat them tomorrow but they may hand a couple teams losses in December that provides a path to an NFCS Title or Wild Card at the very least.
If Bowles continues to bring blitz pressure from both ends with a Corner and Safety I don’t see a LB and DB being able to cover one side of the field against a good 1 and 2 Receiver Combo like London / Pitts or London / Mooney. Going to be some good ones in the next few weeks.

I think the Joes have been too depressed, too. Or at least one of them. Play a division rival on the road is always hard. And the Bucs were a blown call away from winning. That tells me the performance was winning caliber. Relax and enjoy a good but imperfect team, everyone. Beats reading weather.com

Joe was right weeks ago when he pointed out the Bucs Were being too complacent regarding the edge rush. I don’t know exactly what we might have done. Would Judon or Riddick have made that much difference? Enough difference to matter? I don’t know and it would have made our salary cap situation more challenging.
The injury thing…. Not good and yet seemingly inevitable.
Still, I am largely unimpressed with the rest of the NFC. I still like the Lions and Vikings but I consider neither team unbeatable down the stretch.
I just didn’t like the way we lost to the Broncos and Falcons. Both losses left a bad taste in my mouth.

Joe i believe the disappontment and frustration of the fans comes from the mentality of the team.
We are making the same mistakes again and again every few matches and we expect different results.
No pass rush with 4, soft coverage and playing not to lose.
We see something different and we have maybe hope that we turned a corner and things changed but then we revert back to the same old.
Look the Detroit game. Yes we gave up a lot of yards (somehow we dont thing that is a bad thing) because we could not pressure Goff enough but at least the coverage was tight and aggessivve most of the game. I thought that looks a good step.
But after that we saw Denver and the debacle in Atlanta where the coiverage was again soft with our beloved 10 yds off, I mean what is going on.
If the plan does not work you are allowed to change it ingame it is not against the rules. But we refuse to change, we refuse to adjust and we continue to do the same things over and over again.
The issue is not the record it is the mentality.
Because no matter if the other teams are not great either with this mentality you can never compete and be a contender.

Im proud of our team and happy with where we sit. My biggest concern is getting someone else in there for britt on passing downs. Hes a total liability. Ilove how hard he hits though, just sometimes the wrong team. He laid out a few teamates last week. I like how he plays though, hes got the right intensity I want him to succeed.

I would have subscribed to 3-2 at this point of the season. But after seeing the games it’s a shame we are not 5-0.

NFC record won’t matter if ATL finished with a better record or holding the tie breaker over us.
