“Massacre”

October 14th, 2024

Joe’s glad someone other than a Bucs fan put Tampa Bay’s 51-27 win yesterday into perspective.

NBC analyst and former defensive back Devin McCourty was asked for his take on Football Night In America of the Bucs-Saints matchup and called it a “massacre.”

McCourty didn’t want to hear about the Bucs trailing at halftime and choking away a 17-0 lead in near-record time. Anytime you put up 51 points in an NFL game, McCourty said, it’s a “massacre.”

It was. Joe doesn’t want to hear the naysayers, either.

You drop 51 on the road, against a solid defense that hates you, it’s a beatdown of historic proportions.

McCourty’s NBC colleague Jason Garrett, the former quarterback and Cowboys head coach, also spoke about the game and noted how “the edge and concentration” to thrive has a very high bar and he greatly respected how the Bucs played after being displaced and distracted by Hurricane Milton.

“They’re a good team,” Garrett added.

Joe will add that only four teams have a better record than the Bucs.

Let’s not overlook the stellar play of our defense….much of their 27 points were from short fields from interceptions & the punt return….our D was very stout yesterday…

  2. Mike C Says:

One of those four the Bucs have already beaten on the road.

  3. Todd Says:

Stirling Shepherd’s hot head was the cause of Saints second quarter comeback. He needs to get his you-know-what together.

  4. Jmarkbuc Says:

Sure wish we had won in ATL.. if Dean had just sat on London for two freaking seconds.

  5. DungyDance Says:

Ehhh. The last 7 was in garbage time. Still happy, but let’s keep it real.

  6. View from 132 Says:

This team does not need Shepard.

  7. Bobby M. Says:

Bucs are a good team, possibly evolving to great. Our biggest issue is inconsistency on defense and special teams has taken a massive step backwards. If you think guys like Rattler and Nix made plays, wait until Jackson comes to town. Jackson will eat us up if sit in zone defense

  8. doolnutts Says:

Tampabaybucfan – Great point had we not have been so sloppy it might have been more like 51 to 10.

Also, remember how good the Saints looked in the beginning of the season totally destroyed a couple of teams. I know Carr is out but I was worried about this game. Glad to see us pull the W.

  9. Tbbucs3 Says:

Sterling Shepherd got 2 penalties called on him for playing football. He did nothing wrong….Id rather have a guy playing with fire than someone loafing around……

And View 123, this team absolutely does need Sheppard….Cade Otten is average and McMilan thus far looks like Kenny Bell 2.0

  10. Faspro Says:

    Sterling Sheppherd is bad ass…

  11. Hodad Says:

What makes the 51 even worse is D. Allen is a defensive coach! The Saints will be joining the Cowboys, Jets, Philly, among others looking for a new H.C. next season.

  12. Gipper Says:

    Tbbucs3,

It will be helpful to get Trey Palmer back. Not sold on McMillan. Palmer can stretch field. If ME injury persists, Bucs need a deep threat. The way ME was limping around yesterday I fear a hamstring injury. If so, it may take forever to get right. Something was clearly bothering ME yesterday and it happened very early in the game.

  13. TampaBayBucFan Says:

Yes we do need Shepard…….WRs get injured and he is a solid vet…..I think both calls on him were BS….and he may end up being Baker’s buddy like Gronk was to TB.

And, did anyone see the blatant holding on the punt return….3 players on our gunner?

  14. Chef Baker Says:

    Agreed @tbbucs3 faspro

  15. Bucschamp Says:

I used to get nervous vs saints they always have our number.

    Not anymore!

  16. orlbucfan Says:

That show the refs put on in the second quarter was absolutely ATROCIOUS!! The calls were way outta line, and I was listening on radio. No wonder the Bucs got rattled. The flags were everywhere and didn’t stop. THAT’s how the Aints scored those points! I’ve been faithfully following this bunch for over 40 years, and that second quarter ranks as one of the worse one-sided officiating ever! I am very proud my team. They got their act together and beat both the Aints and refs. Is the NFL trying to drive off its fans? That’s a good way to do it!

  17. orlbucfan Says:

    very proud of my team*

  18. Josh Says:

Agreed on Sterling Sheppard was playing football the penalties were whack. The NFL needs to get its officiating under control somthing fishy is going on it feels and seems…

  19. geno711 Says:

I will have to rewatch the game.

I thought those two penalties called on Shephard were both poor calls.

He was blocking up field on the 1st one and the tackle happened behind him with his back turned to the action. It is not like he sought someone out to block well after the play ended. It was probably within a second.

I typically hate to call out refs, but that felt like one of the worst called game. I am not sure that either team could understand a consistency to their calls.

  20. cmurda Says:

Sterling’s personal foul penalty was complete horse manure. That stuff happens on several plays a game. By several, I mean most. That’s a garbage Vegas call. The refs did everything they could do to give the Aints a fighting chance but in the end the Bucs smoked both the refs and Aints.

  21. Beeej Says:

Bucs are second in the NFL in points scored per game!

  22. Buc4evr Says:

Agree that Shepard is a baller. We definitely need a guy with fire. McMillian doesn’t have his act together yet and Otten has flashes of brilliance but is not consistent. Hope Palmer gets well this week. I did not understand some of the flags called on the Bucs. Even the replays didn’t show any obvious penalties. Think the referees need to be challenged by the Bucs front office today. I think some of the calls were totally bogus. Bad officiating is overcome by scoring lots of points. Which fortunately the Bucs did yesterday.

  23. Gipper Says:

Sheppard has to calm down a little bit out there and keep his head about him. He can play but Trey Palmer when healthy is more dangerous. Also want to see more of Ryan Miller. Have a feeling we will with ME nursing a hamstring injury.

  24. First Name Greatest Says:

Competent coaching and scheming to stop the forward pass and this team could be 5-1 or better

hard to get excited about this team with an incompetent head coach

  25. Tiff, Okla,Bake, Bucs 4 life Says:

Agree with yall that we need Shepard, he is awesome, was at ou 2 n he has that higher gear n energy as Bake pointed out, goodyear bunny lolol

Sooo many calls were bunk by the refs , shep had 2 settle diwn a bit but calls by refs were a joke, n really stood out when they let it go on hitting camarda n taking, Was it Winfield or Vea, well, u know, down by face mask n figured out that would HELO us, so, NO surprise, they said no facemask penalty, haha, even admitted the foul hyst no penalty!
Luvd yhat Baker n Bucs beat refs AND saints, THATS TAMOA STRONG!!!!!!!

  26. drdneast Says:

Cam Jordan is washed up. He may have gotten an INT off an errand deflection yesterday but that’s not his job. He’s a DE not a CB. I don;t know if he even has a sack this season.

  27. Lightningvinny Says:

Just keep listening to the media guys who are so in love with Atlanta ,,, they hardly ever talk about the Bucs ,,, it gets annoying on sports talk,,, then Finally someone calls in from Tampa and they ask a question about the GIANTS!

  28. HC Grover Says:

Bakezilla only got mad when he got flattened in the OUCH play.

  29. Dave Pear Says:

Beej pointed out Bucs are second in the league in scoring. Good thing. Better keep it up. The best coaches are coming and will dissect the DC’s soft zone like a frog.

  30. Lightningvinny Says:

Yup,,, Detroit was rediculous yesterday,,, they look like the best O in the league ,, we should all be worried when we have to go there and play them!!!!
What? We already played them and beat them,, oh,,, Nevermind !

  31. Piratic 3.0 Says:

Funny that a lot of the defensive players in the locker room interviews cited halftime adjustments as the main reason for victory.

This halftime adjustments nonsense drives the “Joe’s” crazy.

Remember the Little General (Schiano) used halftime to cram a couple hot dogs down, take a leak & smoke a Marlboro Red? He thought all that brainiac adjustment nonsense was over rated.

  32. adam from ny Says:

yeah if not for the short week late game collapse debacle in atlanta the team is kinda like a 5-1 squad…kinda…
(but yeah you are what your record says you are…i get that)

we are a really good football team and this next game on monday night is sort of like a early season battle of 2 heavyweights…

yeah it’s still a little early to say that, but i’m wingin’ it like a true homer…

yesterdays 2nd quarter was like the football gods saying:

“hold up boys, let the saints eat for a moment, in front of their fanbase, then we will let you fin out hardbody on ’em”

  33. adam from ny Says:

    #SaintsGotBodied

  34. heyjude Says:

I listened to the game on the radio and I think Gene Deckerhoff had a calming effect because I wasn’t worried about this game. Even when it felt like it could go another way. The Saints are still dirty. We won and it was a massacre!

  35. garro Says:

    Umm Shep?

Can you say Miller time? Love his game!

    Go Bucs!

  36. Esteban85 Says:

I’m really hoping this has a mental effect on the slimy saints after getting mauled at home by a bitter rival. Really wishing to see Sean Payton and the Broncos come into New Orleans and eat their freaking lunch and throw the dirt on their lifeless cadaver as they go on a five game skid.
