Lavonte David Talks Power Rankings

October 2nd, 2024

Lavonte David reacts to rankings.

Lavonte David has been on a bit of a media tour since the Bucs trounced the Eagles on Sunday, when David had two sacks a forced fumble and a whale of a game.

It started with David on the phone for a national interview in the happy Bucs’ locker room after a solo spot with the Buccaneers Radio Network.

Yeterday, David joined FS1 and was peppered with questions by former Bucs receiver Keyshawn Johnson.

Johnson is a big Bucs believer this season, unlike many in the national media. He issues power rankings each week and Tampa Bay landed at No. 5 yesterday. Johnson shared his rankings with David (screenshot above) and Johnson did not back away from ranking the Lions at No. 4 even though the Bucs beat them two weeks ago in Detroit.

Johnson asked David for feedback, and Joe was slightly surprised to hear David talk about how he has to rank the Bucs’ No. 1.

David said the Bucs handle what they handle and disregard outside noise, and the Bucs feel like there’s no team they can’t compete with and beat.

It was said that before this season, Todd Bowles talked to the roster about reaching the Super Bowl. There was no, “Win the division and anything can happen.” The message was about building on winning in the playoffs last season and reaching the ultimate game.

Joe’s glad the Bucs are confident. They should be.

    Power rankings has zero meaning

    Just get healthy, baby!

Love seeing Tampa in the early mix of good teams, but these injuries are irritating, especially when you can feel that something special might be brewing at OneBuc.

Something special is brewing and you could feel the difference through what Bowles said in camp and preseason. Really hoping Goedeke is ok. Read an article that talked about a current Center in the league who was out for 5 weeks and has returned and played for 5-7 more years. He has actually had 2 more concussions since then. There is hope. Would love to hear good news about Winfield or Kancey and Palmer or McMillan.

The Bucs are a bit of an enigma. Sometimes they rock it out, other times they 💩 the 🛌. But you can say that about a lot of teams. Fun to watch when they are rockin in the free world for sure! Go bucs

  6. AL121976 Says:

I never understood coaches not talking about wining the SB in the beginning of the season. The goal is to win it all, F game to game or playoffs, winning the SB should be the “goal”

  7. Esteban85 Says:

Just as the college rankings don’t come out till week 8 or whatever the power rankings don’t mean squat till at least half way through the season. With that being said the Bucs do look like they could take any team on any given Sunday down to the final seconds.

  8. JustVisiting Says:

AL121976, there’s a psychological sweet spot for setting goals. They have to be seen as challenging, desirable, and achievable to drive peak effort. If the goal doesn’t feel achievable to the person you’re trying to motivate, it won’t work. There are probably NFL teams every pre-season for whom getting to the Super Bowl seems like too far a reach to be an effective motivator.

  9. JustVisiting Says:

I think I just had a post censored for making too much sense. lol

NFL.com has bucs ranked below the lions and the commanders. SMH

  11. Dave Pear Says:

Someone needs to take the players and coaches to the woodshed again. Last time the Bucs were confident they got curb stomped, abused and humiliated by the league’s worst QB.

    Todd? Somebody?

just saw another power ranking via instagram and it had us at #8

when i saw that i was thinking we should be in the top 6…

all our victories are super solid…

    skins
    lions
    eagles

as good a trio of victories as anyone’s had all year…

and all 3 are high up in most power rankings…even the eagles are around 10-12 in most rankings

  13. Fred McNeil Says:

The rankings are kind of unimportant early. You can see the teams that started off hot. That doesn’t mean they will still be hot in December. You can see the teams that started off cold, but they may suddenly catch fire later. It only matters who is playing inspired football late in the season…as long as ya don’t start off like the Jags. So far back there is no catching up.

  14. ATLBUC Says:

Here’s Kirk Cousins passing numbers related to down field attempts
    0-9 yards 37 passes
    10-19 yards 16 passes
    20+ 2 passes

Our game plan tomorrow should be similar to the Lion’s Game. We swarmed short throws and didn’t allow any YAC. Also, if we can play tight coverage and put pressure up the middle it will be a bad day for Kirk who is very immobile. Recall that at the end of Brees’ career he couldn’t push the ball down the field either. Hopefully, the bucks will take advantage of that.

  15. orlbucfan Says:

Normally LVD avoids the media spotlight. He’s right. Bucs have proven that they can beat any team in the League. They can also lose, too. They beat both the Lions and DC cos they were the better team, both in coaching and execution. But, on any given Sunday, Monday, Thursday, etc., ….

I looked up the 10 second run off rule. I have screenshot. It should have been run off. The game should have ended. They need to fix that
