Jon Gruden Keys To The Bucs-Ravens Matchup

October 20th, 2024

The Gruden Loves Football channel on YouTube is a fun place to hang out. It’s even more more fun when the Super Bowl-winning Bucs head coach talks about his hometown team.

Yes, Gruden lives in Tampa.

Yes, Gruden says he’ll be at Monday night’s Ravens-Bucs game in the flesh.

No, don’t expect Team Glazer to read this and invite Gruden for coffee and a rugelach in the owners’ suite.

Yesterday, Gruden published an extensive breakdown — video style! — of the Bucs-Ravens matchup.

A few nuggets:

*”Tampa Bay has to take a good look at throwing a lot in this game,” Gruden says, citing the Ravens’ weak rush and overall poor pass defense. He considers Chris Godwin to be “lethal” and possibly the game’s best receiver duo.

*Baker Mayfield has lost his last five Monday night games while Lamar Jackson has a good Monday night record and is a ridiculous 22-1 vs. the NFC in his career.

*Watching the film, Gruden says, “You can just feel the get-off” from Calijah Kancey since his return at defensive tackle.

*Gruden called the Bucs “desperate” for production from YaYa Diaby, and he says that’ll be magnified Monday as the Ravens start rookie Roger Rosengarten at right tackle.

*Todd Monken, the Ravens’ offensive coordinator? Gruden says to look for him to “try to get K.J. Britt in coverage and take advantage of that.”

*Some players are hesitant to go all-in on tackling beastly Derrick Henry. Gruden wonders if Bucs starting outside cornerbacks Tyreek Funderburk and Zyon McCollum will fall into that category. Jamel Dean is out with a hamstring injury.

*Gruden on Mayfield: “He’s a badass. Fans love him. I know I’m one of them.”

*Gruden wants to see the Bucs offense stay very aggressive with a “score-50-again” mentality and play selection.

    Did he say anything new?

  2. Jeffrey Becker Says:

good points on yaya and offensive strategy, right on britt too. i like our tackling with this lineup. some big hits will be laid. let’s knock out their dink and dunk receivers and pounce on their fumbles. will be a very manly game.

  3. BA’s Red Pen Says:

He said We at the beginning when referring to the Bucs, then as Joe cited he flat out said he was a fan. I think (hope) the Glazers will eventually soften their stance and bring him back into the fold. I can be hard on him, he has zero clue how to draft for instance but he’s entertaining as hell and I even bought one of his shirts.
Work your magic with Joel over there Sage!

  4. JimBobBuc Says:

I agree with Gruden on his points, except for Zyon’s tackling is much improved. Funderbunk will be tested, but the real key with be Britt against the Ravens TE’s.

  5. David Kilmer Says:

Hi, if you have not seen Gruden you tube podcasts , you need too. He is of course entertaining but delivers a ton of information. To the letter he correctly detailed every point on how the Falcons would attack the Bucs if it was him. One would think Atl watched his podcast. They exploited KJ Britt in the middle of the field, exactly how Gruden said they should with incredible success. Jamel Dean was his second prediction and came to be exaclyly as stated. He doesn’thide the fact he remains a Buc fan
Anyway, he is great for the game and must see if you ae a true football fan

  6. Bring back the lawn chairs Says:

Make no mistake, Mr. Dean is this teams weakest link by a wide margin. When he’s not playing twenty yards off, he’s whiffing a key tackle, or getting blown off a block by 5 yards. For the life of me, I will never understand why this Bucs brass chose to reward that performance with a huge raise. Fool me once ah ah we won’t get fooled again!

  7. Bucsfan Says:

Would like to see Gruden back as an offensive consultant some day.

‘Would like to see gruden as an offensive consultant some day’.
Heck, I’d like to see gruden as nfl commissioner some day! Get rid off all this off the field drama, and get back to football!

  9. Bojim Says:

    Wish Dennis was playing LB.

  10. BillyBucco Says:

    Wish Britt was playing LB

  11. unbelievable Says:

Yup, you can tell Gruden still loves this team.

He got done dirty by Dan Syner & Co. Hopefully things will resolve over time between him and the Glazers. 1 of our 2 SB victories, you can’t just erase that history.

  12. unbelievable Says:

Agree, SVD would be really nice to have.

I expect them to target Britt often.

  13. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Our DC will not change his system to match his players and the mobile proficient Kurt Cousins and the immobile Spencer Ritter were able to burn his defense over and over and since the Ravens have the most immobile and innacurate qb in NFL history as well rb so the defense should be ok, they got this with Bowles as our DC

  14. GoneGator Says:

Dudes got nothing new to bring to the conversation.

  15. Kenton Smith Says:

A key to this matchup that hasn’t been discussed is special teams. Last week we allowed someone to return a kick(punt) for a touchdown. I’m sure Coach has expressed his displeasure with the special teams coach. And that appropriate accountability measures have been taken.

  16. HC Grover Says:

Put him back in the ring

  17. Larrd Says:

Who brings anything new to conversations about football?

  18. White Tiger Says:

    “Score 50 mentality”…Gruden knows what’s up.

We need to score a lot of points – no more code turtles – if your goal is 50, but only get 30 + – then we may just win this game.

  19. LakelandBuc Says:

No one in their right mind listen to Gruden

    He’s a losing Head Coach

  20. Larrd Says:

Gruden is funny, smart and delivers red meat to football lovers and Bucs fans. He is not as popular among the ladies book clubs and men’s drum circles, I guess.

  21. SenileSenior Says:

I am outta my mind I guess. I love to watch Gruden. He is a bit strange I concede.

    Go Bucs!

  22. adam from ny Says:

jon gru is a madman at the chalkboard…i watch…it’s good sh!t

  23. Dave Pear Says:

Score score and score. Otherwise it will be a Denver redux.

  24. Pryda30 Says:

The YouTube Gruden show is A+ dude is dialed into every single team and every player hope he gets back into coaching soon

  25. garro Says:

Serious question for me is how can the Bucs Defensive guru, Todd Bowles help out KJ Britt in coverage. He has now become a guy who is targeted by OCs. I think more so than Diva White was.

    Go Bucs!

  26. BuckyBuc Says:

We’re going to need to score another 50 tonight and next sunday
