“It’s Sustainable”

October 4th, 2024

So formerly invisible defensive tackle Logan Hall had two sacks last night, building on his first sack of the season on Sunday.

Is this real?

Head coach/defensive guru Todd Bowles was asked about that today.

“Yeah, it is sustainable,” Bowles said of Hall. “He’s comin’ on. We always knew he was a good athlete but it took time to get his pass rush things down. He does a lot of talking to Vita [Vea]. He did a lot of talking to Calijah [Kancey] on the sideline of how to try to attack these guys and what he wants to do: less swim technique and more hands, with hands to power, and then using his moves at the end and his athleticism.

“I think it’s sustainable and he’s coming on every week. And he sees it now so that’s giving him more confidence and we just look forward to him getting better.”

Hall’s three sacks lead the Bucs and he had a whopping five quarterback hits last night. The Bucs pressured Kirk Cousins but it was nowhere near enough when factoring in that Cousins dropped back to pass 62 times.

Joe wonders how the Bucs playing 80-plus defensive snaps against Denver (a massive total) and again last night the Falcons has accelerated Hall’s development.

Some guys just need time. Hopefully, that’s the case with Hall. He was injured (foot) just before opening day and only recently has been closer to full strength.

He’s always been close to sacking the QB but now he’s closing the deal! I hope he keeps getting better!!

  2. LakelandBuc Says:

The Bucs need more sacks from their OLBs, not their DE

  3. HC Grover Says:

This loss was disgusting. Just disgusting. The Stainks are now lurking. Hope they do not shred Bowles defense. if they do we nee Coen for HC.

  4. Weebs10 Says:

He was a bright spot on defense last night. I’m excited for him! We just need to get healthy. This is a good football team. Bummed we lost but it was such a fun game to watch. I was on the edge of my seat all night!

  5. LakelandBuc Says:

The Chargers gave the Bears a 2nd and a 6th for Khalil Mack

We gave the Giants a 3rd for JPP

We should be trading for pass rushers
Because Jason Licht has a very poor record of drafting pass rushers

  6. Ds Says:

Hall been cookin this year, I’m surprised everytime I looked around Diaby was hurt man can’t wait til Kancey is back

  7. D-Rok Says:

One of the bright spots of the game: “A sack, cool! Who got it? Hall…HALL, really??” LOL.

Hopefully Hall can continue to progress. Good night for him!

  8. LakelandBuc Says:

We traded for JPP, signed Shaq Barrett and Suh in free agency

And drafted a bunch of bums as pass rushers

I don’t trust Licht drafting pass rushers

  9. Cometowin2 Says:

I have not been a big supporter for Hall, up till his play last week. I believe he has turned the corner. Well done Logan!

  10. Booger Says:

He’s got the body and length. Just needs that ‘mean-streak’ in him, & he could be special.

  11. Cometowin2 Says:

Get Kancey back and if Braswell or JTS develops and Yaya gets back to form, our pash rush will be where we want it. Still need to draft DLine in 1st or 2nd round. Also for all the whiners, you can’t get a great out of the gate pass rusher at end of the 1st or beginning of the 2nd round. You have to develop them.

More concerned about the lousy soft zone pass defense!

  12. El HEFE Rick Says:

I honestly thought hall and Jts was not about be even on the field this year the way they had been playing years before this year is their year Jts has been the star for the 1st two or 3 games now Logan hall for the last 2 also zyon he has been a guy I knew from last year was gonna make a big splash this year I’m just waiting for our entire defense to be healthy thats gonna be scary for other teams a healthy Tampa bay defense

  13. Ol' Boy Says:

Im thinking the reason Logan Hall showed up last night is because he was allowed to show up by Atlanta’s offense. They weren’t worried about him. Still aren’t, id wager.

  14. Gipper Says:

If Browns lose another one this week, everyone will be on the block including Myles Garrett. Licht needs to offer the Browns 2025 1st and 2nd picks for Garrett. Garrett is 30 and has at least 5 more good years. He is an unbelievable physical talent.

  15. Joe Says:

Im thinking the reason Logan Hall showed up last night is because he was allowed to show up by Atlanta’s offense.

    Fair. Maybe likely.

  16. Dave Pear Says:

What’s not sustainable is Todd’s bend over and break pass defense. If you listened to Chucky’s preview of the game, Chucky knew what Atlanta was gonna do and they did it. Todd may have missed the memo. He has a corpse at ILB. Todd should have been sending 6 and 7 guys at Cousins often, like against Hurts. Why not? I mean, it’s not like his guys can cover anyone in Todd’s cushion-permissive schemes anyway.

Jason – it’s time for you to give the HC and DC his performance review.

  17. BillyBucco Says:

I don’t think they ALLOWED him to. I think he is realizing that Vea gets doubled and HOW to play off of that.
I thought the D Line played well. No rush can get to a QB when the coverage is THAT soft. It had to be frustrating for them.
Just like it’s frustrating for Wirfs when the O Line plays that well and they don’t execute.
That TD miss to Evans when literally EVERY Falcons player bit on the screen is just Baker making up his mind pre snap where he is going with the ball.
The second half offensively was disgusting to watch.

  18. Hearty Dikerson Says:

I think it was a mistake trying to turn Hall into a 300lb DT. Let him get back to 270 and put him in the edge.

  19. Usfbuc Says:

Honestly while having that feared edge rusher would be nice if we can be a top sack producing team and it comes from all over the place I don’t mind.

  20. stpetebucfan Says:

    Gipper

Haven’t kept up with the Browns but I agree Garrett is a special talent. If they can get him great!

  21. Hodad Says:

Hall is suited as a 4-3 D end. He’s not a 3-4 DT. In the right defense this kid might be good. Our defense has been figured out. Dropping OLBs in coverage isn’t fooling anybody, but our own team. Bowles did the same thing over, and over last night looking for a different result. It never came. Todd, the league is on to your defense, your blitzs, the whole thing. We kept the Lions out of the endzone, but they moved the ball at will. Atlanta did the same thing, same game plan, and Todd has no answer for it. We’ve been exposed.

  22. SlyPirate Says:

I think Hall had one the previous game, too. He might be the co-sack leader on the team?

  23. Drunkinybor Says:

Glad he stepped up in Kanceys absence. Some dudes need to be forced out of thier fear. Not being in his head and having to just play has helped him. Now he’s had some success. He will be feeling good and his confidence will sky rocket. He knows he can do it now. Bodes well for the future.

  24. unbelievable Says:

It would be great if things finally click and Hall becomes the player he was drafted to be… I’ve counted him out up to this point.

Unfortunately, 2 sacks out of 60 drop backs isn’t enough. Cousins destroyed our defense, yet again.

  25. Saskbucs Says:

2 sacks out of 62 drop backs is more than enough for Logan Hall. It’s JTS and Diaby gone missing, along with properly timed blitzes.

I have to assume the injuries influenced that last night otherwise Tykee should have been flying in off the edge more. It’s also Grier and Russell time. Back to the bench Britt. See ya on 1st and goal from the 9 when you don’t have to cover ground.

  26. Saskbucs Says:

If it is sustainable… when Kancey comes back, the DL should be dangerous. If they are back to health next round with Falcons… Kirk is in trouble. I guarantee it! Bucs will be more upset than us and want it more now.

  27. BAKERSBucs says Says:

U posters r the disgusting not the offense they put up 30 points u jackass everyone said if they put up 25 points a game they r shu in they got screwed at least 3 times lastnite that offense was top notch what a bunch h of jackasses on this site u r disgusting freaks

  28. Vinny from Vermont Says:

The offense sat out the second half yesterday, and it cost us the game.

The Good news. Todd Bowles is NOT a bad coach, but not a good one either.
He is a good DC when a particular game presents him with good matchups.

The Bad news, he is Tony Dungy…A good DC, but will never take this team to a Super Bowl as a HC. Like Dungy, there are times (eg: the Lions game) when he will amaze due to his defensive prowess. But when flexibility is required to get aggressive on Offense, because his defense is dinged up. Dungy (aka…Bowles) still reverts to what he knows and trusts best…DEFENSE!!

Dungy after leaving Tampa…finally won a Super Bowl. Not because of his HC prowess, but because he drew the perfect hand. A Trifect of sorts:
An owner, a GM, and a quarter back that knew defense might get you to the Super Bowl, but to win it, you had better have an offense to put up more points than your Oppenent.

  29. Pryda30 Says:

Such a groin kick loss because we feel like we’re on the cusp of being an elite contender and turning the corner but we keep beating ourselves. I’m am encouraged that so many players are gaining valuable experience I rather lose early in season than later. Keep developing everyone even the OC will be better by end of season
