It’s Official: More Action Coming For Sean Tucker

October 14th, 2024

In what may be the greatest no-brainer of the season, Bucs head coach Todd Bowles told media today that running back Sean Tucker, who went wild on the slimy Saints yesterday, has earned more playing time.

Bowles acknowledged the Bucs now have “a three-headed monster” at running back.

That’s what happens when your No. 1 running back struggles with handoffs, your No. 2 running back posts eye-popping numbers, and your No. 3 guy cranks out 136 yards on 14 carries like Tucker did yesterday. Plus, Tucker had three catches for 56 yards and a touchdown through the air on the ground.

Joe loves this three-headed-monster talk. Joe hasn’t heard it since Cadillac Williams, Derrick Ward and Earnest Graham tried to control the ground game in 2009.

They weren’t successful, but it was a fun discussion during the season that sparked The Lost Decade of Buccaneers football.

Derrick Ward was ruined by the Kardashian Kurse….

  2. AMI_Chris Says:

With the way players get injured, I’m sure we’ll need all three RBs this season.

  3. BillyBucco Says:

    I still don’t like it.
Tell me one of Bucky or Tucker is STARTING and I’ll be excited.
It won’t work as well if they all have 8 carries for instance.
Especially if one guy is used on obvious running formations etc.
NFL running backs need to get into a rhythm sometimes.
Somehow, I feel like Bowles is gonna ruin what is obviously a better plan.
Use White late in the game maybe, after the defense has been run ragged, but he ABSOLUTELY shouldn’t START.

  4. doolnutts Says:

BillyBucco – I dont understand this lol “starting” is just who walks on the field first. All of these guys have been splitting reps all season its not going to change nor should it. It’s clearly working. bucky & tuck legit split carries down the middle with Bucky “starting” its literally completely irrelevant.

  5. Matt_PcAfee Says:

    3 back backfield is coming!

  6. BillyBucco Says:

You obviously don’t understand the importance of an opening drive then.
Tucker said, “ Of course I want to START”.
If it’s important to them you should try to understand better I guess.
    Have you ever played sports?
You need your BEST RB to “feel” important and play with confidence.
How can we have had this beast on the bench?
Because talent evaluation is lacking and he was never given a FAIR chance.
Im talking like more than 3 freaking carries in a game.
    Hope that clears it up.
If NOT, then Im obviously NOT talking to you.

  7. J Says:

Yes, lmao… you clearly don’t understand, doolnutts.

  8. Ds Says:

I’m with starting Tucker or Irving these guys just have it

  9. Ds Says:

Let’s see how serious Bowles is about the RBs I remember in training camp he was sick of white’s running style

  10. OHBucFan Says:

Wanted to see this since before preseason. Tucker and Bucky in the backfield. White as a third down back. If White’s ego can take it, this is a three-headed monster for the rest of the season. If his ego can’t take it, well then…. Heck no there’s no well. Take it or sit. It’s where he excels.

  11. A Bucs Fan Says:

@BillyBucco – I agree but to be fair Tuck’s rookie season was completely sunk by the heart ailment. He was months behind everyone else mentally and he physically hadn’t been training for football. They didn’t know what they were going to get this season. Now that they do I agree with you. I say start Tucker and bring Bucky in to change the pace.

Rachaad doesn’t break tackles or run very hard. and those hard successful runs are what the teams need early to wear the defense down.

  12. orlbucfan Says:

Oh baloney, all 3 guys are talented. So the Bucs have a potentially legit 3-headed RB monster? Good, cos I heard Coen is starting to dream up option plays and trick stuff. We’ll know more after the Ravens’ game. Hope the Bucs are ref-ready, too. They’ll need it.

  13. Let em bake Says:

“ Bowles sucks”….. apparently , Bucs will have to score 100 in a game for Bowles to get approval from some double – digit iq folks here.

  14. Kenton Smith Says:

When you get a “hot” running back you call his number. We’ve got 2 of them right now so whatever we do let’s get them the ball. Early and often.

  15. Bucfan1988 Says:

To me it seems like every time they have two Arby’s in the game at the same time, the defense doesn’t know what is coming.

They need to go with more with 2 RB and 2 WR sets….

I’ve been watching them gash defenses. It seems like every time that formation is installed.

  16. Bucfan1988 Says:

    2 RB’s not the restaurant 😂😂😂

  17. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Why break something that worked. Let Bucky and Tucker play as 1 & 2 to see if there is some consistency. White needs to stay on the bench or play special teams. If Bucky and Tucker play last Sunday was a fluke, then white can rejoin into the mix.

  18. ocala Says:

Coach Bowles is inconsistent with his game plans. He can put together a game plan that is outstanding like it was against KC in the Super Bowl, or he can embarrass the franchise like he did against the Falcons last week.

For the long-term benefit of the team, I would love for the Bucs to have Liam Coen as their head coach after this year, but the Bucs are going to win too many games for that to occur, which most likely means Coen will be the head coach of another team while the Bucs will hope to strike gold again with a new OC.

  19. Dave Pear Says:

Caddy, Graham and Blount were a good 3 headed beast in 2010z. Then Dumdumnik left Caddy go, Graham was injured, and we ended up with Lumplesttskin and Madu. Genius.

  20. Timbucs2 Says:

Joe, can you give us a scoop on ME13? He looks injured, and was in and out of the ‘Aints game a lot.

  21. adam from ny Says:

    buckage, tuckage and ruckage……………bwahahahahaha

  22. Dewey Selmon Says:

I think White’s foot has taken a turn for the worse and he needs to heal or go to IR for 4 weeks. I also believe Tucker is the bell cow and Bucky 2nd.

  23. PSL Bob Says:

A JBF fan suggested in an earlier post that we now have Buck and Tuck in the bakfield. I like it!

  24. GoneGator Says:

Please stop using that gay sounding nickname for Irving and Tucker 🙄

  25. Dave Pear Says:

Dewey Selmon, I agree. He’s injured and needs time to heal.

  26. Walter Says:

    @TimBucs2

He’s dealing with a pulled hamstring, an annual tradition at this point.

  27. Pewter Power Says:

Todd Bowles said he has no input in the offense so I’m assuming Coen made this decision.

Imagine if white never got hurt. Tucker had all of two carries prior to this game. Bowles would be letting a first time coordinator make head coaching decisions for His team his offense that is just genius especially after Canales almost got him fired or helped

Beef ‘n’ Cheddar in our backfield!!!!! We have the meats!!!!

  29. Adam’s Angry Says:

Yesterday proved (as I have been saying for weeks) once White was on the bench, the offense will open up. 51 points. Best rushing performance in I don’t know how long. And Bowles wants to add White to the mix?

We GOT our mix. It’s the Buck & Tuck Connection. White should be put on the shelf and be a pass catching 3rd Down back at BEST.

  30. Erik w/ UniqueModernArt.com Says:

Tucker and Irving should get a minimum of 10 carries each and a few passes thrown to each guy per game.

Then, maybe a few carries per game for White and a few passes per game his way too.

OR… Just simplify the whole thing and trade White for a decent ILB.

  31. Aceofaerospace Says:

I’m all in for the change. I’m sick of White’s one and done runs.

  32. a-bomb Says:

Pump the brakes. I loved what I saw yesterday, but in fairness the Saints D was coming off a short week and they certainly looked gassed in the second half. Now, do it against a fully rested #1 rushing D and then I say let Buck and Tuck roll.

  33. orlbucfan Says:

This site is always good for a few laffs. First, Bowles and Licht stink. Really? 4-2. Second, all 3 RBs are not equally talented. Is that so? White has already shown he’s got good hands, and Bucky is starting to do the same. Tucker is now strong enough heart wise to get on the field. If he’s got good receiving hands, Coen will be in OC heaven. He’s already starting to scheme up trick plays. Not sure what he’ll do with the Ravens, but if White is a “go,” it will be interesting. Now that Goedeke is back, Coen has some space to get creative. The one problem is always the usual: R-E-F-S. The Ravens are among the darling NFL franchises, so we Buc faithful know how that goes.

  34. Cobraboy Says:

    Triple option wishbone…

    😉

  35. Cobraboy Says:

Nothing us ever as good or bad as it seems.

Do it again against the Crows, and maybe I’ll start believing.

    Saints suck, Crows don’t.

  36. Tampabaybucfan Says:

The old wishbone T formation would be great.

  37. gotbbucs Says:

We’re going to need all three, but you have to ride the hot hand.

I don’t want to see them try to feed three running backs every week. Adjust your game plans to the strength of two of them on any given week and keep one guys legs fresh every week. If one guy gets hot early, let him eat until they adjust to stop him, and then give them the other guy.

This is a good problem to have.

  38. adam from ny Says:

    ^^^^^^^^

no short week excuses for one day…

yeah the thursday games monkey wrench everything in a program…

but one day…?…i think teams can handle that once or twice a season…

in fact, london is prolly worse than the one day…

thursdays and the hardships of international travel are legit…

    one day………….nah

Vote for Tucker FedEx Ground and Air (if this is cool with the Joes) https://www.nfl.com/voting/air-and-ground/

  41. Capt.Tim Says:

We had a great day running the ball against the saints.
We have struggled badly most of the year.

Before we get worried about who’s the lead back, let’s see how the 3 of them do against the Ravens Monday..
I really hope we’ve solved our running game issues.
Our tackles were great, Mauch had his first good game of the year.
    But it was the saints.

I hope we have a great showing next game, running the ball.
A good running game would would make this offense lethal,
    Because Mayfield is outstanding!

  42. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Our new version of Thunder and Lightning. How Tucker runs with power and great balance with an instant acceleration reminds me some of Alstott and Bucky shaking and grooving guys and stiff arming them out of their jock straps Warrick Dunn. These two can start White can mop up in the 4th

  43. White Tiger Says:

Baltimore is definitely going to be a different game – one with a mobile, athletic QB that can manipulate a thin secondary that isn’t consistent setting an edge on the edge. I want us to keep this one close – and King Henry who is having a MONSTER season.

If we drop one against Lamar, it won’t be Earth shattering. I think we might be catching San Fran & KC at an advantageous time.

We’ll see if our explosive offense shows up – that Ravens S is stout against the run – so we’re going to need to spread the ball to our great receivers and catch them with some well timed runs…

  44. Zoocomics Says:

@a-bomb…agreed. We need to pump the breaks on a lot of this. That being said, I’m not too stubborn that even with a healthy White going into the Ravens game, I say you give the rock back to the best running duo performance we’ve had since Doug Martin and Charles Sims carried the rock in Tampa. Lets see if Tucker and Irving can be productive against a stout run defense in the Ravens. You show a productive run-game against Baltimore, and barring injury, White will have officially lost the RB1 job.

For those that think we’ll need all 3 RBs to make a deep run this season, you are correct, we need all (3) of these guys if we plan to make a deep run.

  46. An Erection for Sacks Says:

“Tucker had three catches for 56 yards and a touchdown through the air on the ground.” 🤔

  47. SlyPirate Says:

    STOP WITH R WHITE
    I wouldn’t even give him 3rd RB. He’s Rojo v2. Bye.

THE REAL QUESTION: WHO’S THE REAL #1?
Bucky looked good but Tucker was the better back. He’s the faster back. He’s the bigger back. He’s more of a dual threat. No wrong answer (unless you say White).

  48. Defense Rules Says:

BillyBucco … ‘Somehow, I feel like Bowles is gonna ruin what is obviously a better plan.’

And that ‘better plan’ would be what Billy? Bucs are 4-2 and should be 5-1 if not for a last-minute fumble (among other things) by Bowles’ favorite Rachaad White. Oh wait, my bad, it wasn’t White who fumbled, was it (Rachaad has 0 fumbles so far this season). It was Bucky Irving, who is now part of the ‘better plan’ I presume.

I’m convinced that we’re blessed with THREE quality running backs, and each one of them with somewhat different strengths & running styles. That gives our OC tremendous flexibility in terms of play design & play calling. It SHOULD also compound the opposing defense’s problems in countering them considerably. Maybe that’s what happened yesterday? Saints had the #8 ranked defense (Points Allowed) prior to yesterday’s game. Today they rank #23. Oh how the mighty have fallen. Reminescent of us after the Atlanta game?

  49. Offshorerunner Says:

How fun would a few plays in the red zone that were some kind wishbone offense

  50. Mike S Says:

Tucker looked like a fast moving anvil out there.

  51. Beeej Says:

  53. Bucs4Ever Says:

    buck and tuck it is…lfgggggggg

  54. Drdneast Says:

Derrick Ward, what a joke. Ranks right up there in greatnessvwith Sabby Piscatelli.

  55. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Defensive Rules (DR)

    Per usual – Great take!

  56. David Says:

    BUCK n TUCK!!!

So glad to see Tucker get some time. I watched this kid a bunch in Syracuse and he was explosive. Look up his stats from college. He would’ve been a much higher draft pick if not for the heart palpitations.

White should be relegated to third string as long as these two can block for the pass. They have both shown they can go out and receive.

I would imagine the O line will only approve throughout the year if they stay healthy

  57. Simeon4HOF Says:

Now we have a solid 1, 2 Punch in Irving, Tucker .. and a really good 3rd down/back in White. RB core big time set, whoda thought

  58. GoneGator Says:

    What @Defense Rules said 🙂

    ————————————
Some of you guys would be making changes at every position every week based on single performances, and at coach – lol.

I’m psyched about the emergence of Bucky and Tucker but just as much so about the plays RW is going to make if our O-line keeps improving and Liam keeps learning/adjusting !

  59. BAKERSBucs says Says:

U people don’t listen to the interview bowles said all the play calls r from oc Coen man all u monkeys dump on bowles why don’t u dump on u r wife this stuff get monotonous after every game posting the same bs get a life they friggin with 51 points wtf

  60. BillyBucco Says:

    Defense Rules
The better plan is starting Irving and Tucker spelling him with White being used late. It’s about how many carries each get. White 12 Bucky 10 and Tucker 5 instead of 2 is a bigger share and more playing time yet we all agree that is too little still for Tucker. We heard Watts deserved more time and his snaps went from 2-4. Big Deal.
That is all Im saying. Todd is slow to make any MEANINGFUL changes.
You might look at the record and some might say it’s working but we will never know what would have happened in Atlanta if Tucker was given 15 carries.
Just like if Bowles comes out with White and he gets the Lions share of the carries we won’t know how much better we can be otherwise.
We could start Bucky and use Tucker and still get beat, everyone knows that.
I have watched football long enough to say TUCKER is the best RB on our team.
When was the last time we had a RB have 14 carries and average over 9 ypc.
    I will wait.

  61. BillyBucco Says:

And you can shove White and his zero fumbles but a career 2.8 ypc up your dairy air.
    Sarcasm is uncalled for.
    Especially from you.

  62. unbelievable Says:

They have a 3 headed monster, why is Joe and so many fans trying to deny that? Bucky and Tucker may end up being better than White, and if so that’s great.

But you can use them all. And we should! They can all catch and run.

And for some reason you all keep pretending / ignoring the fact that just last week, R White averaged 7.2ypc. A week earlier against Philly both White and Irving had 4.9 ypc.

  63. Statguy Says:

Coen has had some really innovative play calls too. I would love to see him dial up some creative plays with Bucky and Tucker in the back field and white in the slot

  64. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:

    DR…

White has had 2+ years to prove himself.

He is what he is – a guy with 2.8 YPC.

It’s high time he got benched. You can’t have a RB who can’t run the ball.

  65. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:

Seriously how many more guys are going to get blamed and lose their jobs because White sucks?

  66. Esteban85 Says:

Start Bucky, spell with Tuck, 3rd down back RW in situations of 3rd and 5 or more. Go with the hot hand once a back has proven himself. Make RW prove he can either handle adversity and overcome or prove he doesn’t have what it takes to be a baller in a 3 headed monster situation. We will need all the horses in the stable
