“He’s Always Been Ready”

October 16th, 2024

NFC Offensive Player of the Week Sean Tucker.

Interesting perspective from the Buccaneers’ running backs coach.

So Bucs fans watched second-year running back Sean Tucker explode onto the NFL scene Sunday with 136 yards rushing, 56 yards receiving and 2 touchdowns against the slimy Saints. Heck, today he won NFC Offensive Player of the Week!

But what was going on last season? Was Tucker’s development delayed because a predraft heart issue kept him from practicing with the team until training camp?

Running backs coach Skip Peete implied Tucker was 100 percent sharp last season with stellar skills … until it came time to produce in real games. “He’s always been ready,” Peete told the Buccaneers Radio Network yesterday.

Peete was extremely firm that the high-end skills Tucker displayed Sunday were present in August of 2023, the ones that made him a star at Syracuse University. Then, per Peete, things changed quickly.

“All of a sudden, you know, I don’t know exactly what happened; Week 4 or 5 last year things weren’t as positive for him,” Peete said of Tucker. “A couple of games there where he kind of struggled a couple of times. You know, he never lost focus and drive. It’s just your opportunities become more limited.”

It sounds like Tucker’s mental game evolved this season and he was determined not to let an opportunity pass him by. Tucker got one Sunday, his first, and made the most of it.

Up next for Tucker? More work Monday against the Ravens — the NFL’s No. 1-ranked run defense.

if barton is healthy, does he play C or RG?…..wirfs and bredson work very well together….mauch still struggling imo…

    GO BUCS!!!!

  2. 813BUCBOI Says:

    and where’s @DR lol

    GO BUCS!!!!

  3. Baker Bowl Says:

Sean Tucker, I am #PL34SED with your performance and the result on Sunday, I hope you are never not #PL34SED

  4. A Bucs Fan Says:

Bucky and and Tucker need 25 touches a game at least

  5. SB~LV Says:

    Remember…
    Last year’s OL …

  6. Mike Johnson Says:

Tucker keep runnin like he did last week, we may have us a new winner in town.

  7. a-bomb Says:

813 BucBoi-Mauch is balling. He hasn’t given up a pressure in two games! LG is the weak link.

  8. Lt. Dan Says:

After what we saw last week from Buck and Tuck, I wonder why White keeps popping up in conversations for carries. He’s. A. Glorified. Third. Down. Back.

  9. Rover Says:

No 1 is more excited than I am. But For the Love of all, can we string together a couple of games befote setting ourselves up for disappointment?? Look how yall wrote off JM15 already

  10. GoneGator Says:

Nice article. Positive insight into one player without putting down another 😎

Tucker looked fast and powerful Sunday. I doubt he, or our run game in general, will have that kind of success against the Crows but we can hope 🤞🏼. I think the key is going to be Coen! He needs to keep defenses guessing, scheme the right kind of runs. O-Line needs to keep improving.

Tucker has been eye opening in the kickoff return game too! He may take one to the house this year.

  11. LakelandBuc Says:

It takes years for a RB to prove his worth. Nothing against Sean Tucker, l hope he succeed in the NFL. But I’m not jumping on a bandwagon after one performance.

I’ve seen wayyyy too many (One hit wonders) come and go.

  12. bob in valrico Says:

I, too also wondered if Barton might be moved with the success of the running game last. We had no power is he sick or injured and for how long?

  13. Win in the Trenches Says:

White should be be very nervous

    ^^^^^

Bredeson started well but he was hot garbage last game. I wonder if he’s hurt. Barton at LG would be good but read the Arians article. Hainsey is good UNLESS (a big unless) the opposing DT is strong. Then Hainsey is a liability. We’re still better with a healthy Barton.

  15. A Bucs Fan Says:

@Sly and the Ravens have a HUGE nose tackle coming to town Monday night. Mr. Travis Jones.

  16. BillyBucco Says:

That sounds to me like the limited carries they gave him was frustrating to him.
You really can’t see what you have with so little chances. Especially with last years blocking schemes and runs up the middle. Coen at least mixes up zone and gap really well.
If you think Sean is a one hit wonder Lakeland, then you don’t understand what he did against loaded boxes.
That last TD run was supposed to go right and his vision allowed him to see EARLY it was covered up and he broke it out the back door EASILY.
    You simply can’t coach that.

  17. stpetebucfan Says:

Who is CG14’s number one backup now? I can certainly see Rachaad White doing that job well. He can handle the physical beating a slot receiver takes, and he has great hands and runs well after the catch in open space.

Seems like Rachaad would make a great SLOT receiver.

  18. DJB Says:

Overshadowed by his rushing yardage is the fact that he has excellent receiving skills, as well.

  19. rrsrq Says:

Congrats on winning the NFC Offensive Player of the Week, more to come

  20. unbelievable Says:

I do hope Barton is back against the Ravens, they have a monster nose tackle.

@Rover – exactly. Everyone ready to demote White to 3rd string after a single game lol.

Coen is smart, he’ll use all 3 backs effectively. Ravens will be a very tough test and a good gauge of whether this run game is for real or not.

  21. PSL Bob Says:

We’ve got to keep this game close so we don’t have to throw on every play late in the game. We can win with a mix of run and pass using play action. This will be a real test of how good Irving, Tucker, the o-line, and perhaps White really are.

  22. PSL Bob Says:

Maybe if we have a strong showing in the running game against the No1 run defense, we can get LakelandBuc up here on the bandwagon. Hopefully, we won’t have a lot of folks jumping off after the game. GO BUCS!!

  23. Bojim Says:

I’m happy for Tucker. We’ll deserved. Next game!

  24. LongTimeBucaneer Says:

I called this out more than a month ago. Glad Tuck got his shot. I knew he would succeed when I saw him move in preseason. He’s got it.

  25. orlbucfan Says:

Mebbe Tucker’s heart situation is why the hesitation went down in 8/2023. Congrats to him on OPOW honors. He deserves it. I hope the Bucs D starts the game Monday nite against the almighty Ravens O. Bucs will be ready either way. I have faith. Go Bucs!!

  26. WilieG Says:

I wonder how many third string backs have won OPOW?

  27. Badbucs Says:

Can’t we just trade for a guard before the deadline. Hainsey too weak for guard. Too late to move Barton. Please get somebody. Find a ILB while you’re at it.

  28. Dave Pear Says:

The idea of RWhite being a poor man’s Deebo Samuel isn’t a bad thought at all.

  29. Josh Says:

Stpetebucsfan exactly been shouting this for a year. No vision great hands and great in space perfect kick returner and slot receiver…

  30. KeyserSoze407 Says:

No. Everyone’s ready to demote White after way more than one game? White has been awful rushing for years!!! His yard per carry has proven that. Bucky just helped prove it even more. Tucker is the second coming of Alstott.

  31. Oneilbuc Says:

I think Bucky should be the starter for now on !!

  32. Bucnjim Says:

This would be a great game to show everyone what they can both do. I’d love to see him be the RB of the future. I would like to see a little more before crowning him the king though.

  33. GoneGator Says:

SO GLAD some of you guys have nothing to do with the actual running of the team 😁.

  34. Vanessa Anne Says:

    Congratulations Sean!!!

  35. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:

He wasn’t ready last year, but that’s ok.

He’s ready now and that’s what matters.

  36. Dr. Bucenstein Says:

All three can contribute. Although it’s going to see a similar version to the late 90s WD 40

  37. Erik w/ UniqueModernArt.com Says:

I’m pretty sure R White hasn’t ever won NFC Offensive Player of the Week in 3 years.

And Sean Tucker wins it in his 1st where he has more than 10 touches. LOL.

Tucker is our RB1. Or he should be, that is.

  38. mj Says:

Bucky will work better against the ravens rush defense i think

  39. Chef Baker Says:

Congratulations ST44. Tuck n buck baby!

  40. Dave Pear Says:

    Offense rules.

  41. Jmarkbuc Says:

Bucky and and Tucker need 25 touches a game at least

    I think I get this

  42. Jmarkbuc Says:

All three can contribute. Although it’s going to see a similar version to the late 90s WD 40

    Let’s hope…

  43. Jarrett Says:

Yo man I’ve been a life long Bucs fan and I logged on joebucsfan to say:

GET THE BALL TO TUCK #44 !!!!!!!

  44. David Says:

They definitely got to use the run, but the ravens are not that great against the pass. They’re number one against the run just don’t try to force feed it constantly.

  45. Joe Mac Says:

Please install some 6 and 7 man offensive line formations!

    Copy Harbaugh!

We need to build a bully!

    Mauch was a former TE.

Let Klein get some snaps at RG while Mauch slides out to play the Outside RT/TE (eligible receiver) position!

The year we were killing it with Doug Martin, Charles Sims and Logan Mankins, we ran a lot of 6 offensive lineman positions!

I want 6 and 7 offensive linemen formations in Tampa Bay!

  46. GoneGator Says:

“We’re going to need Bucky and Rachaad all year,” Bowles said. “Bucky has some scheme runs that worked and Rachaad had some that didn’t. That doesn’t mean he is playing better — that means we couldn’t get the (holes) open when we had Rachaad back there. We’re going to use them both all year. How they play and how much they play will change every game, so it’s going to be no different.”

  47. Kiki VanDeWeghe Says:

if tucker and bucky arent seeing 30 touches a game each, we are doing it wrong

  48. adam from ny Says:

i kept thinking he’s like a smaller version of chubb, and he is a bit…

good bowling ball and pinball skills…

but ira really nailed it on the podcast…

he’s like a billy sims…the old rb with the lions back in the early to mid 80’s…

cutting on dimes, flailing arms and legs, jukes, speed and wicked moves…

he really reminded me of billy sims on sunday at the dome
