Gameday Tampa Bay

October 21st, 2024

Game 7

Crows (4-2) at Bucs (4-2)

Kickoff: 8:15 p.m.

TV: BSPN (WFTS-TV Channel 28 locally) with Joe Buck, Troy Aikman and Lisa Salters.

Streaming: BSPN+, NFL+. (Geographic restrictions apply; subscription may be required).

Radio: Buccaneers Radio Network WXTB-FM 97.9 in the Tampa-St. Petersburg region (Transmisiones de radio en español en WTMP-FM 96.1 y WMGG-AM 1470 en Tampa). Additional stations throughout Florida on the Buccaneers Radio Network can be found here. The game also will be broadcast on SiriusXM Channel 226 (Buccaneers Radio Network feed). The Westwood One national feed with Kevin Harlan and Devin McCourty can be heard on SiriusXM NFL Radio Channel 88.

Weather: Nice day to tailgate and a better evening to watch a game. Per AccuWeather.com, look for temperatures in the high 80s under mostly sunny skies late this afternoon. As the sun sets and kickoff approaches, the skies will remain clear but the temperature should be in the upper-70s for the game, cooling off gradually to 74 by game’s end.

Odds: Per BetMGM, as of noon, Bucs +3.5 (+170); over/under 50.

Referees: Here is what fans can expect tonight Alex Kemp and his gang, by way of Joe Gibbs with Sharp Football Analysis: Kemp and his outfit shy away from calling offensive penalties but they love to throw flags for defensive holding and pass interference. So this may be Ira Kaufman’s favorite pass game. That is, just throw the ball up to Mike Evans and watch a flag be thrown. One could also call Kemp’s gang frontrunners. The favored team is undefeated in Kemp’s games this year.

Injuries: Crows —  Out: RB Rasheen Ali (ankle), LB Malik Harrison (groin). Doubtful: DT Broderick Washington (knee), Questionable: CB Arthur Maulet (knee/hamstring). Bucs —  Out: CB Jamel Dean (hamstring), TE Payne Durham (calf), WR Rakim Jarrett (knee), WR Kameron Johnson (ankle).  Questionable: DL Earnest Brown (ribs), WR Trey Palmer (concussion), NT Vita Vea (hamstring), RB Rachaad White (foot).

Outlook: The more Joe thinks about it, the (rehearsed?) narrative pouring out of One Buc Palace last week about giving each of the Bucs’ three running backs a series early in the game to determine who has the hot hand was just a bunch of cow feces. The Crows have the best rush defense in the NFL. However, only two teams have given up more booty through the air than the Crows, and that’s the slimy Saints and the Jags. Everyone saw how the Bucs did throwing the ball against the slimy Saints last week. The Bucs have the ammo to throw. Baker Mayfield leads the NFL in touchdown passes. Chris Godwin is one of the best receivers in the league this year. And Mike Evans is Mike Evans. Why wouldn’t a team want to put the ball in the air? However, it is not always that simple with Bucs coach Todd Bowles. If the Bucs stick to the air, they have a shot of beating the Crows. If they want to ground-and-pound and try to win a slugfest, Joe has doubts.

Fun facts: Crows QB Lamar Jackson has only lost once to an NFC team since he entered the league in 2018. He is 2-0 against the Bucs and hasn’t yet thrown an interception against the Pewter Pirates. Jackson is looking for his third straight game with 315 yards passing. In his only game against a Todd Bowles defense, Jackson was held to 238 yards passing and 43 yards rushing but he did have two touchdowns thrown. … RB Derrick Henry became the first player since Hall of Fame RB LaDainian Tomlinson in 2005 to score a rushing touchdown in each of his team’s first six games of the season. … LB Roquan Smith sent nuts the last time he played the Bucs while with the Bears. That day Smith had 13 tackles, a tackle for loss and a pass defended.  … CB Marlon Humphrey usually plays well against the Bucs. Two years ago facing the Bucs, Humphrey had 9 tackles, a tackle for loss and a pass defended. Humphrey has defensed five passes in two career games facing the Bucs. … Baker Mayfield in half of the games this year (including the past two) has thrown for three touchdowns. … Bucky Irving is looking at his fifth game in a row with at least 55 yards from scrimmage. He has a rushing touchdown in two of his last three games. Irving leads NFL rookies with 328 rushing yards. … Lavonte David had a season-high nine tackles last week. Looks for his third sack in the past four games tonight. … Zyon McCollum has had at least two passes defensed in four of his past five games.

It might come down to coaching. The Ravens has an experienced coaching staff. Probably the best in the business outside of KC.
