Falcons 31, Buccaneers 26

October 27th, 2024

The Bucs lost today to Atlanta, but more troubling is they were exposed as absolute frauds on defense and on special teams.

Tampa Bay’s shot at a fourth consecutive division crown is now in peril.

Atlanta is 5-3 and the Bucs are 4-4, but Tampa Bay is effectively two games behind the Falcons because Atlanta owns the head-to-head tiebreaker after beating the Bucs twice.

The Bucs defense gave up the booty to Atlanta to the tune of 24 first-half points. There are no excuses.

No edge pass rush struck again.

The Bucs got two sacks on Kirk Cousins’ 31 dropbacks, both from backup defensive tackle C.J. Brewer.

Joe applauds the Bucs offense minus Baker Mayfield’s two critical interceptions. Offensive coordinator Liam Coen was more than prepared in the absence of Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, and the Bucs scored touchdowns on two of their first three possessions. It was damn impressive.

The offense posted 24 points overall (plus a safety) but that wasn’t enough to overcome the Bucs’ sourass defense.

Mayfield finished 37-for-50 for 330 yards with 3 TDs and those 2 INTs. Cade Otton had a huge day. Rakim Jarrett stepped up and the Bucs’ running game was strong while the offensive line had another strong day.

That botched Bucs fake punt … ill-advised, foolish and ugly.

It’s on to Kansas City!

Todd Bowles, you and your pathetic defense lost this game.
Baker made mistakes but your defense proves to be garbage week in and week out.
    Relinquish your DC duties NOW.

  5. BucfaninMi Says:

Dumb loss, mostly bad coaching, injuries and a couple terrible calls by the refs

  6. QBKilla Says:

Bowles defense is a joke. Worse than Mike Smith.

  7. GP Says:

    Hey Joe
How about an article about the questionable TD where Winfield knocked it out.
A one score loss can be attributed to that one play

  8. Trask To The Future Says:

    LOL!

    BRING BACK JAMEIS!

  9. NaplesBucsFan Says:

Sorry ass thing is that if Atlanta had that chance to win it, guarantee they get the TD to winā€¦ not our sorry team. Pick up first down and run a play instead of clock g it to save time. Dumbest sh!t ever, ran off about 20 seconds to get that next pass to Jarret

  10. ElioT Says:

    Creamsicles need to go.

    Todd Bowels needs to go.

A lot of posers need to go.

    Soft team, very soft.

You let Kirk own you twice.

  11. Jackjacksfan Says:

Can’t wait for those sorry “so we have chance” bs articles Joe’s gonna put out

  12. Bucsgoham12 Says:

Pitts fumbled that ball before breaking goal line…but we will never truly know because the league is pinching pennies. They have cameras in the pylons for a reason use them! enhance them if you have to. Just like they couldn’t see facemask in the first match that would have made that a win. So dumb.

  13. BucfaninMi Says:

Theyā€™re scoring enough points to win every game this year. This defense is garbage, his stupid scheme isnā€™t working

  14. Kgh4life Says:

Time for Bowles to make some changes, starting with himself. He needs to give up play calling duties and maybe get rid of one of his Co-DCs

  15. Architek Says:

Thatā€™s 2 winnable games dropped by Bowles and his defense.

  16. Davenport Says:

The Glazers have never fired a coach in-season but they should cut Bowles loose on the bye week, if not sooner.

There will be enough season left to right the ship but clearly Bowles isn’t the guy to do the job.

  17. Will24 Says:

TIME FOR BOWLES TO GO. BAKER PLAYED POORLY BUT WHAT WAS THAT DEFENSE ??!!!

  18. RVATom Says:

I officially apologize for being mad at the media for hyping Cousins. The Atl Cousins suck. But the Buccaneer Defenses suck more. And the Buccaneer Bakers needing points suck nearly as much as the Cousin Falcons. And the Tamp Bay Special Teamers thinking they’re smart are WAAAAAY worse than the Cousins Falcons. Jayzussss Chriiiiist. I make fun of people for getting excited about Politics. I need to look in the mirror. I wanted to break my TV today over football. That makes me stupid.

  19. A Bucs Fan Says:

Bowles is the problem in Tampa Bay. Keep Liam Coen at all costs he scored 26 points with a QB that canā€™t throw 10 yards down the field and an inept DC.

  20. BucfaninMi Says:

Pitts absolutely fumbled that ball. And itā€™s the difference in the score

  21. Mike Johnson Says:

I’m a supporter of Bowles. But enough is enough. The offense played well enough to win this game. Where was our Defense? They were the same place they have been all year…Non-existent. Atlanta has whipped us twice. They will win our division. We cannot tackle a parked car or stop slow running water. Sorry coach Bowles, its time for you to pack your bags.

  22. Jw94buc Says:

Bowles defensive concepts must be outdated

  23. BucsBeast Says:

Liam Coen has been great. Need to keep him around

  24. Peter Says:

    Joe
Donā€™t forget 2 int in red zone and a fumble
    The offense was trash too

  25. Miller5252 Says:

Itā€™ll be a 4 game losing streak before they win again. Bowles should have been gone after the Texans game last year. The D has got worse every year heā€™s been in Tampa. Coen to HC and get a better D coach. And please get real D end that sucks in coverage but good at sacking the QB.

  26. Boise Bucs Fan Says:

    One wordā€¦..regression

  27. ElioT Says:

Iā€™m sure Toad Bowels is going to have some real wisdom post game.

  28. Anon Says:

Licht loves having Britt on the roster. High on his own supply.

  29. Rod Munch Says:

    Amazing timing…

From the 40, with no time left, Baker throws the ball out of bounds to end the game.

At nearly the same time Winston throws a perfect 40 yard TD pass to put his team up with less than a minute to go.

  30. Gipper Says:

Got news for everybody. Bucs arenā€™t going anywhere with that defense. Not a playoff caliber team. Biggest problem is an absence of talent.

  31. BallHawk75 Says:

Fire up that Todd Bowles confidence poll dawg!!!!

Less than zero for me dawg!

  32. LVMYBUCS Says:

Who calls D plays if they fire Bowles today?

  33. Curse of Gruden Says:

Should have put Trask in for the final play – he wouldnā€™t care about throwing another int.

  34. Bobby M. Says:

Bowles is what heā€™s always beenā€¦ā€¦9-8.

  35. IrishTony Says:

Atlanta sucks and has always sucked no matter what. Team without a spine. This game was handed to the lame birdies by the coaches mostly Bowles who doesnā€™t correct crap ass coverage in the middle of the field

  36. Chef Baker Says:

Losing brings the trolls out. The defense lost this game. Baker played his heart out minus the ints. The falcons trying to become the new aints???

  37. StormyInFl Says:

Fire Todd Bowles. I wish the Glazers would launch him midseason.

  38. Bring back the lawn chairs Says:

This loss starts with Jason Licht not addressing the pass rush in the off season. Starts. Then Todd Bowles.

Bowles is what heā€™s always beenā€¦ā€¦9-8.”

I doubt he gets to that record this season. 7-10 – at most.

  44. Godlovesbucs Says:

D gives up 24 first half points.
    D forces no turnovers.
D gives up a 6 minute drive when they have to get the ball back. That includes converting a 1st and 22 and a 13 yard RUN by kirk Cousins.

When offensive stars are out, the d needs to step up to win. They did not. Baker did not play his best, but the offense with lots of key injuries did enough to win.

Name 3 good plays the d made.

  45. Ds Says:

NFL loves the falcons that was a fumble on pitts

  46. Nicholas Carlson Says:

Lee has been calling it for years. They never replaced JPP or Shaq

  47. SBucs Says:

A nickname is warranted: Todd ‘Swiss Cheese’ Bowles

  48. Josh Says:

Itā€™s a tough day to be a Bucs fan. Bowles and Baker were severely disappointing, and Winston managed to beat the Ravens. It feels like we sold our soul for that Super Bowl, and now weā€™re paying the price. Kirk Cousins is making me feel nauseous at this point. I think Iā€™m ready to step back this year. Football is supposed to be enjoyable, and I wonā€™t torture myself every Sunday anymore.

  49. NaplesBucsFan Says:

Fire the Gannons, WTF are you talking aboutā€¦itā€™s frustrating that this team shows some glimmer of hope and then rips it from the jaws of Victory!!!

  50. BucfaninMi Says:

Mediocrity will get you nowhere. That Bowles. Mediocre 8-9 9-8 at best.

  51. A Bucs Fan Says:

@Rod do you think Jameis would have come back to Tampa on a 4 million dollar contract in 2023 after the guy who replaced him won a super bowl and earring 15 millions dollars in 2022?

    Not so sure about that.

  52. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:

This is the karma this franchise deserves for screwing Trask.

I told you all 9-8 would not take this division.

I told you to watch out for Atlanta.

    I was laughed at.

Cousins is flat out better than Mayfield who has a bad habit of throwing late 2nd half INTs.

Said this during the fake QB battle last year – you cannot expect Mayfield to carry you with the intermediate passing game. He becomes a turnover machine.

Coen has crafted an offense to suit Mayfield’s short passing game. It leans heavily on YAC by his two primaries – who got hurt as a result.

This is the best case scenario with Baker too. Still a .500 team. Not enough.

  53. Bosch Says:

9ers, then chiefs then bye. If Bucs somehow win one of these that are still in it. Lose both, season over.

For any remaining Bowles supporters out there, I have one question. What does it take to convince you he stinks as a DC.

  54. Ed Says:

No faith in this teams defense.

No faith in the coach who clearly gets outmatched with his poor management of players and in game decisions.

Most NFL teams would be able to run a hurry up offense and not waste time throwing into the middle of the field. Bowles always loses these games when he needs a well run 1 minute offense.

The fake punt decision was horrible because the way the Falcons lined up should have been noticed by the special teams coordinator who would have called the play off. Clearly the Falcons had the left side covered. Play should have been overruled.

Another devastating loss at home in a must win situation.

  55. FrontFour Says:

Three turnovers. Multiple 2 INT games by Baker. And costly fumble by White.

Love how all the criticism is on the D. But again, 3 turnovers.

  56. Scotty Mack Says:

Only one team in the entire NFL has given up more points than the Tampa Bay defense … the Carolina Panthers. šŸ™

The Bucs are scoring about 29.5 points per game – nearly Brady numbers.

In the off-season, the Bucs are insane if they let Liam Coen go to another team instead of retaining him as the Bucs new head coach. The league has caught up to your defensive scheme, Todd. It’s time to move on. Surely a new DC that can do a better job is out there.

  57. Rod Munch Says:

Dang, Winston with a clutch game winning drive, beating the Ravens who destroyed the Bucs last week.

Winston 334 yards, 3 TDs, 0 INTs, GWD.

What a day. If the Bucs had a QB like that, who performs in the clutch, they’d be sitting pretty right now.

  64. Mondy Says:

I’m ready for the Bowles experience to end. I’m done. Also promote Coen as HC and bring in Saleh as DC

We had a chance to win. Bake wil get better with these new receivers. I have no answer for this defense. Trade deadline? When that Olympic sprinter cousins dashes on a 3rd an 18, we got problems.

  68. BucfaninMi Says:

As far as Jamies goes, sun shines on a dogs arse once in while.

  69. BucsBeast Says:

I get that we are down multiple starters, but Bowles has given up multiple records to QBs since he’s been here. He doesn’t adjust his scheme to players strengths. His game and clock management is not up to par. Honestly it’s time to either hire a DC or find a new HC.

  70. Vegasbuccaneer Says:

Weak d. Weak head coach. Baker no good

  71. Kalind Says:

Just too many bad decisions to win. Baker made some bad throws/decisions. But Bowlesā€¦omg. Just horrific head coaching. Again.

  73. Bucben1961 Says:

Come on Muncher waiting for your answer….must be helping mommy cut the crust off your cheese Sandwich…loser

  74. JBBUCS_06 Says:

Wait a minute!!! Let’s not let Baker off the hook. Two INTs on underthrown balls when we had momentum and in scoring position. If either one of those is a FG, then we only need a FG to win.

Baker owns some of this as well – not just all on the D. 3 Offensive turnovers. Baker ALSO missed JMac on a throw that would have been a TD (threw it behind him). So, again, not all on Todd’s D.

  75. Josh Says:

The real question is: would you rather have a developed Winston if he continues to play like he did today, or a Tom Brady Buccaneers Super Bowl? Sorry, but I’ll take the Super Bowl. Some teams still haven’t even been to one; when you have a chance, you take it. This team has shown its true colors at this point. Bowles will likely be gone, Baker might be replaced, and unfortunately, the Bucs are in rebuilding mode. Thereā€™s no pass rush and no solid linebackers. Lavonte is done after this year for sure. As I mentioned earlier, it feels like we’re paying for selling our souls for Brady and that Super Bowl. Think I’ll go fishing on Sundays or somthing from here on out don’t see it getting much better sadly….

This was an entire organizational loss.

  83. Will24 Says:

THESE TRASK PEOPLE ARE INFURIATING. HE CAN BARELY MOVE IN YHE POCKET MUCH LESS MAKE GOOD DECISIONS!

  84. Rod Munch Says:

Winston didn’t just beat the Ravens, he did it with a 40 yard bomb with a minute left in the game.

Baker, from the 40, throws the ball out of the back of the endzone, couldn’t even keep it in the field of play.

That’s by far the issue with Baker, he’s just completely inaccurate once you get past about 10 yards down the field. With that said, Baker is good what he’s good at, and that is keeping plays alive and throwing short 10 yard and under passes. Baker threw, again, two of the worst INTs you’ll see (although not nearly as bad as the two last week), but got the team back in the game. But you knew, once the clock ran down and he had to make plays down the field, the Bucs had no chance. One, because Baker just isn’t accurate – and two, you don’t have an NFL caliber WRs who can haul in deep passes (the Bucs have a bunch of slot WRs).

I’m not bashing Baker, but seriously, consider putting in Trask or Pratt or whoever if you need to throw a hail mary. Baker just isn’t accurate at all down the field.

  85. Mike Johnson Says:

  88. Richard Says:

That zone defense with no pass rush worked so well the first time against Atlanta why not use it again?

Bucs out coached every week. I like the fake punt call knowing youā€™re defense can stop nobody. Brilliant!

  89. Ol' Boy Says:

Lol baker apologists saying oh he played a great game except for the interceptions. Guess what, the interceptions are a part of his game and you can’t have one without the other.

They just put a fork in the season.. no way we catch up with and pass the falcons. Ready for a new HC and watching our young players develop.

  90. Ted Says:

ang, Winston with a clutch game winning drive, beating the Ravens who destroyed the Bucs last week.

Winston 334 yards, 3 TDs, 0 INTs, GWD.

What a day. If the Bucs had a QB like that, who performs in the clutch, theyā€™d be sitting pretty right now

Probably not because clutch QB be dammed, our d is total trash……offense/qb is not the issue in Tampa. When you are a defensive head coach and your D is the reason for every loss, changes need to be made.

  91. BucfaninMi Says:

In no universe is Winston better than Baker.

  92. Aceofaerospace Says:

Going into the bye week 4-6. I see no way around that. Bowels sucks as a head coach and heā€™s now a mediocre defensive coordinator.

  93. ModHairKen Says:

They had their chances. Big mistakes at critical times.

Starting with that lousy Rachaad White. He blew it. But then the weak Pass Rush and poor DBs gave up a 4th and 3 TD to Pitts.

    Really pathetic.

No playmakers on this team? No Warren Sapps? No Ronde Barbers? No Simeons?

Every player on Defense needs to go home and get right. You are NFL players. Make a Fā€™ing play!!!!!

  94. Pahpahmike Says:

I agree with many on this site today. I think itā€™s time to move on from Bowles. He just never win the big games. As much as I was pissed when Dungy was fire, it was the same thing Dungy could never win the big games so his firing was justified

Was Winston missing the 2 best WRs in the game?

  96. BucaneroJim Says:

I guess Jameis doesnā€™t believe throwing in the white flag.

  97. Winny Testaverde Says:

Hairdresser Hot Rod Mulch almost on cue with the Winston berry tickling. He had a very good game admittedlyā€¦letā€™s see if he can keep it going or has a one game bounce a la Andy Dalton.

Bowles peaked last yearā€¦and now the team is paying the price for the false hope.

  98. RuKa_44 Says:

The news is not Jameis winningā€¦ the news is that he has beaten the same team that wiped our behind last Monday!
You know that unstoppable Todd Monken offense with a double head monster that smashed us the whole game and put 508 yards on Guruā€™s D? Scored 24 today, 386 yardsā€¦. THAT is the news!!

  99. Saskbucs Says:

Canā€™t believe the D is this bad this season. Where were our stars? Winfield maybe made a play, NFL not having goalline angles and technology is craziness. Mayfield picks were brutal for us again. Canā€™t be happening this much. Jessie Bates is a problem. Falcons donā€™t beat us either game without him.

  100. NJBucs Says:

You donā€™t barely win. You win or lose. The Bucs lost. Coaching lost this game again. This is the situation you keep Chris in the game not last week. Bad clock management and punt the ball in that situation. Bowles continues to show under pressure situations he will make the wrong choice.

Was Winston missing the 2 best WRs in the game?

    ——————-

LOL! The Browns have probably the worst WRs in the NFL, even worse than the Bucs minus Godwin and Evans. Maybe the Raiders can compete with the Browns, perhaps.

It was a very impressive performance vs a team that destroyed Baker and the Bucs defense last week.

  102. StormyInFl Says:

The first interception (on the flea flicker) was the kind of ball you throw to Evans or Godwin. Not a useless scrub like Ryan Miller, who made zero attempt to take it or knock it away.

The 2nd was a bad decision.

    But…. Trask Fans…

    1) the bucs haven’t screwed Trask. Trask just isn’t that good.

    2) Trask in the game and they aren’t even playing for a win at the end.

  103. BucfaninMi Says:

26 pts is generally enough to win with but we have Bowles, a defensive guru that lacks guru.

  107. Oneilbuc Says:

It’s time for Bowles to go the only pick that was bad was the one he threw toward the side line. The flee flicker was bad but it wasn’t as bad as the one on the side line.

  108. Mike S Says:

THEY SCREWED TRASK WHO HAS NEVER GOTTEN AN OPPORTUNITY

Now we have a 100M mediocre QB and no pass rush.

  109. Oneilbuc Says:

The only thing Jamies needed was a running game with us and the bucs coaches at the time didn’t give him that.

  110. BucfaninMi Says:

You really think theyā€™re just not playing Trask because heā€™s better? Nonsense. He hasnā€™t won the job. Plan and simple.

  111. Nprbuc Says:

I have been very quiet this year-until now. Time for me to climb on the bandwagon and say that Bowles has to go. How can the Glazers stand to watch this crap that is called a Defense and not get sick? Bowles is FAR from a defensive guru as he has been called so often. He learns absolutely nothing by his past failures and trots out the same useless pass defense that he has been using all year no matter how physically abused they have been. His soft zone is laughable. Guys are confused as to what their assignments are nearly every play regardless of the players that he has on the field. How many missed tackles are required in his book before someone sits? I canā€™t stick up for Britt any longer at MLB but Todd thinks he is ok there. Our offense is cooking while the D May as well stay in the tunnel. How embarrassing to be a Buc fan . If Glazers are happy with Todd, fine. At the very least they should demand a DC be hired and take that off his plate. Until then it will be hard for me to wear any Bucs gear in public. Pathetic to see the same old, same old every damn week when we are so much better than that.

  112. Fred McNeil Says:

Baker was just average today. We needed a little bit more. Todd’s defence had a few good moments, but only because of the blind squirrel theory. The tackling was erratic. The overall “plan?” was erratic. The once vaunted run defense was erratic. The new receivers impressed me, but Baker was erratic. Bowles was seemingly uninvolved. The pass rush? Ask Joe. Yeah, calmness in the face of a storm is in fact a virtue. Ask any sailor what it means to have too much of anything good at all on a ship. He will tell you that having too much of any one thing means you don’t have enough of another. Enough of the red side of the ledger.
On the black side of the ledger Bucky Irving is a mother lovin’ force of nature. Almost unstoppable. The replacement receivers looked nicely adequate. Winfield should have had another end zone pilfer. There was mysteriously no camera angle on that..,.. Yeah, right.

On the black side of the

  113. Scotty Mack Says:

No, if Cleveland (and Winston) had Tampa’s defense, they would have lost the game 41-29 … 2 points less than the Bucs scored.

  114. Tbbucs3 Says:

    Trade for Jameis!

  115. BucsfaninOregon Says:

I cannot understand (Other than Trask to the Dumpster) why you guys are ragging on Baker. If we had a little more time he might have pulled it out. All QBs have INTs. DB made a great play on the 5 in 3rd QTR. I did not see the first 10 of second half thanks to youtube so IDK what happened then. Missing you two top receivers and Baker still did well.

IT’S THE DEFENSE! If only we had a DC. Oh, we have one?
Watching JTS make an appearance on the tube as he is COMPLETELY blocked out of the play is puke inducing.
Is there anyone out there in BucLand that saw JTS make a positive contribution today? Anyone? But, he plays.
Maybe he can carry Todd’s baggage when they both catch the same bus out of town. I hope it is tomorrow. Time to blow up this team.

  116. Bobby M. Says:

Do yā€™all still call for Toddā€™s head?
Bi polar fan base would fire him mid season. You think that makes us better?
One thing is certain, the team has Bowles backā€¦. They fight for him til 0:00 on the clock

  119. Bucben1961 Says:

Rod Muncher…I’ll pay your way to Cleveland if you promise to never come back… seriously

  120. Bucben1961 Says:

While the bucs defense implodes Rod Muncher of the Queen of the qbr trashes Baker… everyone give him a big round of applause

  121. Defense Rules Says:

EIGHT explosive plays (3 runs & 5 deep passes) crucified the defense. Take those away, and Bucs win that game easily. Problem is that EVERY game lately is the same story. That’s totally unacceptable. Not that hard to figure out who’s responsible and find someone else to do the job.

And yes, ‘the Bucs offense minus Baker Mayfieldā€™s two critical interceptions’ was impressive. Well, except for White’s fumble in addition to the 2 INTs. And oh ya, a botched punt (YGBSM) that gave the Falcons the ball at the TB 38-yard line. Of course, when you lose the Turnover Battle 3-0 your chances of winning the game are much less than 10%. Damn defense.

  122. Bucben1961 Says:

The sad thing is who here believes the defense will magically be better next week… Toilet Bowles has shown time and time again he can’t adjust….hell he still hasn’t figured out how to manage the freaking clock

    Amazing timingā€¦

From the 40, with no time left, Baker throws the ball out of bounds to end the game.

At nearly the same time Winston throws a perfect 40 yard TD pass to put his team up with less than a minute to go.
    __________

And I bet Little Rod has been painfully purple and throbbing ever since.

  124. Bucben1961 Says:

Dooosh you made be spit out my beer

  125. Scotty Mack Says:

@Defense Rules … actually, the Bucs lost the turnover battle 4-0. The turnover on downs (fake punt) is a turnover.

  126. orlbucfan Says:

Well, the fans should own this team. They were ripped off by the NFL ownership when the fans raised the franchise price-$40M. The 1974-75 collective ownership freaked. They found Hugh Culverhouse in major legal heat down in So. FL. The NFL crowd made sure the fans’ offer was rejected. They cut the franchise price in half, moved Culverhouse into position, and mebbe refunded the original funding from the fans. Bucs have had a decent run winning a Stupid Bowl and the division in the last 4 years. I am fed up with the corruption.

  127. churrasco Says:

This is what happens when instead of devoting two seasons to develop a young quarterback and team for the future you bring in an undersized .500 journeyman quarterback and hype him to sell tickets and never sniff a Super Bowl. Next season we get to start over with a completely empty quarterback (and coaches) room, not having a clue after 4 seasons what our second round quarterback can do with starters. Truly the work of geniuses.

  128. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Munch, how many TD passes does Baker have this year? I thought that’s what you always talked about when Jay Miss was here. Jay Miss had 5 years to prove himself here and he couldn’t do it. He couldn’t win the starting job in New Orleans and he’s only the starter in Cleveland due to injury. I’ll split the cost with Bucben1961 to give you a one way bus ticket to Cleveland.

  129. Tbbucs3 Says:

Baker was not the reason the Bucs lost today….

Todd Bowels and his miserable defense is the clear reason.

The Trask trolls just cant help themselves from bashing Baker any chance they get.

  130. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Less than mediocre head coach plus a mediocre qb gets you exactly where we’re at now. That is their stigma. Blowels needs 11 defensive superstars on defense and Mayfield needs 10 on offense for this team to be winners. Neither has the mental acuity to take this team to any level other than mediocre to slightly less special now whatever we call stars on this team are injured

  131. Davenport Says:

RLS … dont even try to defend that loser. There’s being a fan and then there’s being stupid.

Aren’t you tired of the failure?
    .500 isn’t a winning record

  132. Defense Rules Says:

I have to question if some of you even watch the games. How did Vea look out there today? Our undrafted rookie Funderburk (all 185 lbs of him) got badly beat on the 1st TD by Pitts (who outweighs him by over 60 lbs & pushed him down to gain separation), but who got beat on those last 2 deep passes for Falcon TDs?

And how about all of the explosive plays (deep passes plus runs over 10 yards)? How in heavens name do you give up so many deep pass completions when you’re playing back and allowing short completions?

Munch, how many TD passes does Baker have this year?

    ————-

    In the clutch? Zero.

  134. Defense Rules Says:

Scotty Mack … i agree with you on the 4 turnovers, but that’s not how the box score logged it. Wonder if there’s a category called ‘poorly conceived & executed play’?

  135. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

BucbentoverforBaker1961 how could you spit anything out when you’re a gulper? You BakerGulperbois are the most irritating

  136. BucaneroJim Says:

D.Rā€¦. Donā€™t forget Bakerā€™s Hail Mary pass out of bounds with his two ugly interceptions. Brady was a master at comeback drives in the last couple minutes – you could never rule him out – Baker not so much. The Bucs manage to make Cousins look like Brady.

  137. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Oneillbuc please go away. He had Doug Martin and still made the worst turnovers you ever could see. Jameisgulpers are just as bad as the Bakerbois

  138. Itā€™s brutal out here Says:

I know we all loved the days when the Bucs could rush four, get home and Brooks, Ronde & Co would carry the day. The game has changed that doesnā€™t work reliably anymore. Offense wins most games. Having a defense-minded HC is a gross misapplication of resources and emphasis. Not to mention the fact that the defense isnā€™t any good. We need to get our house in order for next year, which includes promoting or hiring an OC to be head coach. Until we do that and provide offensive continuity we are just wasting time. Baker is better than every other QB we have ever had not named Brady. Jeff Garcia? Nope. Brad? Nope Vinny Testicle? Nope. Trent? Nope. Be glad we have him, even though he forces things because we donā€™t have enough talent to just go out there, play ā€œour gameā€ conservatively and win.

  139. Christina Bucsbabe Says:

I donā€™t think things are as terrible as all the fakers wanna make it seem but damn some pass rush would be nice.

  140. Defense Rules Says:

Tbbucs3 … ‘Todd Bowels and his miserable defense is the clear reason.’

Considering that they were playing with 4 hands tied behind their backs (Vea barely moving, JTS, Britt & Funderburk all having no business being on the field) the defense played about as well as anyone should expect them to play today. Having to overcome 3 turnovers AND a botched fake punt in TB territory is a lot to ask of any defense on their best day.

We should’ve gotten a MLB, but no. We should’ve gotten a quality DE/OLB, but no. We should’ve gotten a quality CB, but no. We needed another quality DT, but no. We’ve got holes all over this defense. OK, let’s vote Yes on that one.

  141. Hearty Dikerson Says:

Can we hear more about how Jason is keeping receipts? Or about how he developed a bruise patting himself on the back so hard by resigning all ā€˜his guysā€™ and dubbing it the best offseason ever?

Who would have thought, only bringing back your own guys from a .500 team has resulted in a .500 record? (In hindsight, none of those re-signings are looking great.)

  142. Tbbucs3 Says:

Ill agree the defensive breakdowns is not onky on Todd Bowels but Jason Licht has wellā€¦ā€¦

The talent on this defense is just not good.

Obviously corner and linebacker is bad but what happened to Jordan Whitehead?

  143. Defense Rules Says:

BucsfaninOregon … ‘Is there anyone out there in BucLand that saw JTS make a positive contribution today? Anyone? But, he plays.’

JTS has played 60% of our def snaps & Braswell has only played 35%. JTS has 1 sack & 2 QB hits, while Braswell has 0.5 sacks & 6 QB Hits. If I were Bowles, I’d be starting the rookie. We’ll be moving on from JTS next year anyways.

I still wish that we’d transition back to a 4-3 defense, to at least experiment with it. Two ILBs, when 1 of them is Britt, doesn’t cut it. Although he MIGHT be acceptable as a true MLB in a 4-3 alignment. And we need to also replace Funderburk. I like the kid, but his play at this point doesn’t hack it. Would rather see us try Tavierre Thomas back there, or even Izien.

  144. UKBuccaneer Says:

Not sure whatā€™s more embarrassing, demanding Trask or longing for Jameis.

    The offense isnā€™t the problem.

  145. Bucsfantim Says:

Iā€™m sorry but although the defense is not playing well, the most at fault here is the turnovers.

How do you expect to win games when you lose the turnover battle 3-0?
Baker throws another pick in the redzoneā€¦ imagine if that was a TD instead? 31-33 game.

2 picks in all of the last few games is inexcusable no matter how you slice it. It makes sense the defense is giving up points when weā€™re turning the ball over.

  146. Tbbucs3 Says:

    UKBuccaneer

The longing for Jameis comments are sarcasm (even though he was great today)

The sad part is that the idiots longing for Trask are dead serious

  147. SpringHillBuc Says:

With our top two receivers out then ALL three of the RBā€™s need to be in the lineup. Tucker had one throw tossed his way and ran the ball twice.

At halftime they had run for 74 yards, with Irving running for 41 on seven carries and White 29 on six. The team finished with 102 yards rushing. Irving finished the game with 9 carries and White with 6 carries. Bucky and White combined for a total of 2 carries the ENTIRE second half? Are you kidding me? Why would you take the ball out of your playmakers hands? Itā€™s not like the game was out of reach. Stick to the plan and Baker wouldnā€™t have to force the ball to second hand receivers to try and make a play. Garbage play calling in the second half.
