Chris Godwin A Slimy Saints Killer

October 14th, 2024

Pest of New Orleans.

For too many years, it seems the slimy Saints always found a way to beat the Bucs. That’s why the wins against them are so sweet.

Even the year the Bucs won the Super Bowl, the slimy Saints beat the Bucs twice, including an embarrassing game in Tampa on Sunday Night Football.

So any time a Bucs player has success against New Orleans, Joe embraces the moment. And it seems per NextGen Stats, Bucs receiver Chris Godwin is a slimy Saints killer, as documented by Nick Shook of NFL.com.

Chris Godwin gained 105 of his 125 receiving yards after the catch across 11 receptions (and two touchdowns) against the Saints, his most YAC in a game since Week 8 of 2021 (also against the Saints, 105 yards).

Godwin has been strong against the slimy Saints since entering the league.

Anyone remember the final game of the 2017 season? Godwin caught what turned out to be his first touchdown pass against the slimy Saints. It happened to be the game-winner. With 15 seconds left, America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, rifled a 39-yard pass down the right sideline and Godwin hauled it in for the winning score.

Ya’ gotta love it!

I’m just glad we left relatively unscathed. The Aints play dirty and I was worried it would get ugly.

  2. Evo Says:

@Leopold Stotch .. I was worried about the same thing. They almost took out Calijah Kancey with a low hit. I don’t know how they get away with it.

  3. Truth be Told Says:

You mean to Beat the Bucs Joe

  4. Gofortheface30 Says:

So the opposite of Mike Evans? Is he EVER going to have a good game against the Saints, Jesus. And no, coverage was not rolled over to him. He was not running right, and was generally useless. Baker wasn’t even looking his way because there was no point. Rather have Jalen in if the intent was to have a useless decoy out there. Would be nice to know what his deal is

  5. Steven #55 Says:

Morning Joe – any news on the Dean injury and what was bothering Evans?

  6. Leopold Stotch Says:

@ Evo… I don’t remember KC getting hit low. Yaya did tho. That was scary.

  7. Chad Says:

Mike looked like he was definitely hurt out there, didn’t run routes as fast and strong like he usually does, and he did have their best corner on him all night. That’s the plus of having another big time receiver like Godwin out there, luckily they get a little extra day of rest, I’d probably give Mike a couple off days from practice this week so he can get his body right

  8. Miguel Says:

@Evo – instead we took out Chris Olave

  9. Brandon Says:

    Evo… that was Diaby

  10. Chef Baker Says:

A thing of beauty. I missed this TD watching the game on the nfl plus site annoyingly buffering every 5 mins🙄

  11. BuckyBuc Says:

Yea Mike looked like he had a hamstring injury

    @Jason Licht,

    Sign this man!!!!!!!!!!!

I don’t call CG14 Ungodly for nothing! He’s back to his second year form. The rest of the League better look out. Plus, he’s got a score to settle with the Aints even though he’s a pro and won’t admit it. Rest ME13 cos he’s hurt. In Licht I trust to pay CG14 what he deserves. He’ll be here next year.

  14. Aceofaerospace Says:

I remember the cheap shot from the slimy saints that almost ended Godwin’s career.

  15. drdneast Says:

I always got a big kick out of the Saints beating us twice during the regular season during our Super Bowl seasons. Always fun to grind it in to the during game day. “Hey win all you want during the regular season and choke in the post season like a good Saint.”

  16. captivajim Says:

Game after game -Godwin is more productive than Evans .. Great to see him have a terriffic game against those Slimy dirty Saints -who broke his ACL 2 yrs ago …

  17. adam from ny Says:

    chris is on a 10,000 + trajectory as well…like mike…

don’t know where he’s gonna finish yardage wise for a career, but he’s a 10k + guy most likely too…

maybe even 12k…if he stays in the league for a while

  18. adam from ny Says:

i’m gonna go out on a limb and say in 3 to 4 years chris can potentially be in the top 50 receivers of all time…

he’s at like 7,200 now…and would have to get to something like 10,500…

with the way he’s playing it’s totally feasible

  19. garro Says:

Godwin is the Bucs best clutch WR in history. Replacing Joe Jurevicius on my personal all time list. Which is saying something.

    Pay the man Jason…

    Go Bucs!
