Buccaneers 51, Saints 27

October 13th, 2024

So much for a soothing post-Hurricane game to distract from troubles at home.

Regardless, Joe is in ecstasy! The Bucs pitched a freakin’ shutout in the second half and bumped their record to 4-2, their best start since 2021.

Talent won out.

Yeah, it was messy as hell.

What a mind-numbing first half that nearly took two hours, the Bucs were sharp, then flat, then stupid and then resilient — with a Saints punt return for a touchdown (untouched!) mixed in. The end result was a roller coaster that saw Baker Mayfield throw three picks and two touchdowns in the first 30 minutes — with the Bucs trailing 27-24 at the break.

Mayfield throwing 30 times in the first half was somewhat ridiculous when the Bucs’ run game was thriving. But the Bucs leaned on that run game in the second half and Bucky Irving and Sean Tucker were downright dominant.

Anyone miss Rachaad White? Before the final two-minute warning, White and Tucker combined for 217 yards on only 28 carries!

Take a bow, Robert Hainsey. Funny how the run game rolled with him starting at center and White sidelined with a foot injury.

Chris Godwin was money all day, racking up 11 catches for 125 yards and 2 TDs.

Mayfield overcame those three interceptions with a final tally of four touchdown passes. He’s now on pace for a stunning 42 TD throws this season. He only threw six passes in the second half.

Joe’s got all kinds of love for the Bucs defense. Zyon McCollum was a beast. Tykee Smith made plays. The pass rush came alive late in the first half and didn’t let up. And the return of Antoine Winfield Jr. was felt, and Joe’s not just talking about his touchdown.

That second-half shutout was a thing of beauty.

The slimy Saints (2-4) have lost four in a row. Blown out today in their own crib. And it couldn’t have happened to a more deserving team.

Bring on the Ravens!

First game of a 4-5 game winning streak Bucs…LFG

  3. Josh Says:

In a bold twist under Coach Bowles, the Buccaneers decided to shake off their defensive reputation and embrace a high-octane offense. Instead of the usual grind-it-out style, Bowles challenged his team to outscore opponents, starting with their longtime rivals, the Saints.

The game kicked off, and the Bucs dazzled fans with unexpected trick plays and deep passes. One wide receiver even launched a 70-yard touchdown bomb! By halftime, they were leading 28-14.

As the game unfolded, even the defense got in on the action, scoring touchdowns and surprising everyone. When the dust settled, the Bucs triumphed 52-35, proving that with Bowles at the helm, scoring points could be just as thrilling as stopping them. Who knew defense could be so boring and offense soooo much fun when you could light up the scoreboard instead?

This is what I’m hoping for personally…

This aged very very well lol… Someone said I was living in fantasy I believe that was the term hmmmmmmm wonder what they have got to say now???

  4. Ke Says:

The Running game looked good today. White better watch out

  5. Davenport Says:

DONT OVERLOOK the fact that Bowles remains a horrible head coach. Bucs won this in spite of him, not because of him.

  6. MadMax Says:

Foot on the throat…learn from this todd

  7. Chad Says:

Are we talking about baker winning mvp if the Bucs come away with some wins over the next few weeks

  8. Bucsgoham12 Says:

The 2nd qtr disaster is mostly the Offense fault as 2 of the int(the bounced one was luck) put Saints in short field. The punt had no hang so a free pass. Defense did there thing when they weren’t backed into endzone. The offense eventually regained a flow, should have ran more when they had the 17 pt lead and were frazzled. Tucky duo is good. Tyreke Smith is a baller too, should be long term slot.

  9. Buddha Says:

The third string, undrafted halfback ran for 130 yd. This offense is loaded with talent. Kancey makes a huge difference to the defense.

  10. adam from ny Says:

    the “BUCK & TUCK” show

  11. MadMax Says:

Ask no risk it no biscuits big man how

  12. ModHairKen Says:

Hainsey. Good job. Tucker. Wow. Erving also delivered. Kancey looked good. Shepard, strange day.

    Big win.

  13. NaplesBucsFan Says:

Gotta play great next week at home on national television baby…played great on offense for most of the game on Thursday night, gotta show America we’re for real against a good team next Monday

  14. Bucfan1988 Says:

After watching this game, I think the bucks need to put Rashad White on the trade block.

They should trade him to another team for a decent inside linebacker to help Levonte out!!

    Buck & Tuck connection baby!!!!!

  15. Ke Says:

    That’s Tucker’s and Bucky’s backfield

  16. rrsrqnc Says:

Bucs made the second half adjustment on defense, so not sure how this makes Bowles looks bad. He does not know what a never seen rookie is going to do. He had the defense to make the adjustments unlike he had in ATL

  17. firethecannons Says:

Yeah good game! The running game came alive!

  18. adam from ny Says:

    “BUCK & TUCK”

    yes

  19. BucfaninMi Says:

Did not see that coming. Couldn’t have been a better team to hang 50 on

  20. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:

Joe are we officially done with pretending White is a good back?

This game puts the nail in his coffin. Please agree.

  21. firethecannons Says:

2 of Baker’s pics were bad luck no one got hurt good stuff

  22. Billyboy Says:

    Tucker and irving looked great!

  23. Oneilbuc Says:

Rashard White should not be starting anymore!!

  24. A Bucs Fan Says:

Start Sean Tucker! Bucky and Tucker are the future

  25. JReel Buc Says:

What do the Rashaad White apologist have to say now. What his pass blocking skills bs

  26. BucsBeast Says:

    NO MORE R. WHITE!
The RBs behind him are WAY BETTER.

It’s nice to see the resilience and over coming the turnovers.

Mike Evans will NOT get 1000 this year.

  27. JReel Buc Says:

We all knew it in preseason finally we got it today thank you for having bucky and Tucker in today white needs to be the spell back

  28. Buddha Says:

Hey Joe, when was the last time the Buccaneers ran for 280 yd in a game?

  29. Oneilbuc Says:

I’ve been saying it for a long time every quarterback needs a running game and here is your proof . Baker stared of bad with 3 picks and one of them wasn’t his fault but the running game won this game and defense. Go bucs!!

  30. Erik w/ UniqueModernArt.com Says:

Buck and Tuck need to be RB1 & RB2 and White can play the occasional 3rd down as a Flanker etc

  31. adam from ny Says:

at the beginning and the end we kicked their azz…

but in the middle, it got a little nip and tuck…

or should i just say “buck and tuck” 🙂

  32. Dubcity Says:

Some fans just can’t help hating the HC.. lol even after wins.. just stfu a bit

  33. 1sparkybuc Says:

Where was Mike Evans??? Two catches for 35 yards. Is he injured?

  34. rrsrqnc Says:

Dropping 50 on New Orleans, I will take that

  35. Erik w/ UniqueModernArt.com Says:

Tucker looks like RB1 and Bucky is a stellar RB2. White can be a receiving back/Flanker.

  36. RuKa_44 Says:

Really strange game…. But, looking back with a bit of a cooler head now, except for a complete meltdown on the 2nd quarter, we played as a good team and took care of business.

Todd actually made adjustments at halftime…. And it worked! Who would know that pressuring an inexperienced rookie QB would work? Go figure….

There is some “mental” or “psychological” or “confidence” deficit in this team… a meltdown like the one on the 2nd quarter does not happen to good matured teams…

Overall happy with the result and 3 quarters of play, specially against the dirty aints.

  37. J Says:

That’s not true Davenport. Bowles started blitzing the rollout by Rattler, and his pressure was getting there in the 2nd half. I wanted to snap his neck in the 2nd quarter, but you have to give him credit for the adjustments… that I didn’t believe he’d make.

  38. Nicholas Carlson Says:

Buck & Tuck! 1a and 1b from now on. White needs to learn to play slot

  39. Miller5252 Says:

Joe, need to go find out how bad Evans is. He needs more targets and yards if he’s healthy. To me it’s the worst part of the day

  40. Dew Says:

Got power back with 1 minute remaining. GO BUCS

  41. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

The way that second quarter went, it seemed hopeless. Mayfield with 3 picks???
Not to mention the refs. Bucs won despite the Refs.

Second half, the Bucs played offense the way they were supposed to play. Nice!

  42. Permanently Moderated Says:

Always nice to take the air out of those snotty Saints fans and thump their team good in the second half.

  43. Stpetematt Says:

Once again, Rachaad LEADS THE NFL in yards after contact. He would have had an incredible game too with all the GIGANTIC holes the offensive line produced- especially in the second half. A total team win here after almost falling apart at the end of the 2nd quarter. Really nice domination at the point of attack and very opportunistic defense. Sean Tucker looked even better than Bucky and White would have been awesome. Great game!

  44. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Dew Says:
    “Got power back…”

    Awesome!

  45. Gofortheface30 Says:

If Evans is gnna be strolling out there like he runs the 40 in 5.5 seconds then he needs to not play. Being a decoy and Mayfield not even looking his way because he’s not running right helps no one and serves no purpose.

  46. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I listened to the game on the radio…been years since I’ve done that. Gene is making mistakes, but it is awesome the hear him calling the game again!

  47. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

Buck and Tuck. I like it. That’s the best running I’ve seen on the Bucs since 2020.

  48. Bucsgoham12 Says:

Don’t trade White but use as a wr since Shep puts himself in bonehead spots. Mc & Palmer get injured along with Kam.

Where was Mike Evans??? Two catches for 35 yards. Is he injured?”

    Yes.

  50. Gipper Says:

Bowles did a nice job with bringing the heat in second half. Not sure why he waited? Baker bounced back nicely after really rough 2nd Q. If the haters thought that Baker would never throw another INT, that is not the way the NFL works. Have been saying all year 35TD and 10INT is where Baker ends the season. After 6 games, still sticking with that projection.

  51. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Sterling needs to go. He was horrible.

  52. Bucamania Says:

Great win!!! No power so watched on my phone. Made my day. Just dominated the slimy Saints in the second half.

  53. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

50 burger! Amazing adjustment on D!

Rashad, take a seat – the show has started so enjoy the view.

  54. Chad Says:

Yeah Mike was definitely hurt, he wasn’t running routes fast or with a purpose like he did on the first drive, he did have a good corner back guarding him all day but still

  55. Dom Says:

Rachaad White has a role on this team as a 3rd down back. Great in the passing game and pass pro. Tucker and Bucky should definitely get the majority of the carries. Wacky 2nd quarter aside they outscored the Saints 44-0. Dominate performance and encouraging to see them shake off that 2nd quarter

  56. Bojim Says:

We have a run game! Maybe Tuck and Buck? Really happy for Tucker. Mayfield didn’t wilt. Coen done real good. TB adjusted and the Bucs need to think about resigning Godwin. Weird first half. Scary. Now I get to read good Bucs stuff all week! Welcome back AW31!

  57. infomeplease Says:

Good win! Great to see the team make adjustments at halftime and take control of the game!

  58. Ke Says:

Took Bowles until the 3rd quarter to figure the rook out. OLB finally contained the edges so DTs could eat.

  59. View from 132 Says:

    Bucs found two great tailbacks?!

  60. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

How about “Bucker or “Tucky”? Our new combo backs are taking over.

  61. infomeplease Says:

BI7 and ST44 could not be stopped! BM6, after the turnovers, regrouped! Good to see the team didn’t shoot themselves in the foot during the second half!

  62. Chef baker Says:

50 burger!! Heavens yea!! We baked today baby! Despite the many mishaps and the ridiculous refs obviously in favor of the voodoo team. Tuck n buck awesome job! Nice rebound defense! Nice job baker aka comeback kid! Screw the taints!

  63. gotbbucs Says:

Rachaad White can still play a key role in this offense, but 1st and 2nd down back is not his role any longer. Been saying it for a few weeks now. Today should have made that crystal clear.

He is Charles Sims 2.0, which isn’t a bad thing.

  64. Zoocomics Says:

Hard to argue the results on the ground JBF. Bucs use of Bucky and Tucker in the second half is how you close out football games, just awesome to watch them grinding the Saints down. What a tale of 2 halves though, damn this team is simply a rollercoaster… poor playing and bad luck kept this Saints team around to start the second half. Be interesting if we can get up for the Ravens. Sean Tucker is a massive story here though. I thought we were talking this kid was a cut candidate in training camp, and now it’s going to be hard to keep him off the field.

  65. SenileSenior Says:

We won! The cup is way more than half full. We saw adjustments on both sides ball. Real adjustments and tweaks. Wallow in the win. We are four and two for godsake!

Bucs win! Bucs win! Bucs win! We sliced up the slimy Saints!😱😱😱

  66. Chef baker Says:

Also welcome back kancey and Winfield! You’ve both been missed!! Today it showed just how much!!

  67. Bobby M. Says:

Get what you can for White…..seems simple but how much is anyone trading for a 3rd down back? Irving and Tucker showed that White is a below avg RB, what are we hoping for….a 6th or 7th? Rather just keep him for depth.

  68. orlbucfan Says:

Bucs made a major mental adjustment near the end of the first half. They started playing against two teams: Aints and refs. The start of the second half was the same. Refs backed off and 51-27 Bucs.

  69. Aceofaerospace Says:

Keep Rashad White on the roster. Irving and Tucker might need a blow late in games after rushing for 200 yards again. I see no reason to start White again.

  70. BucShot54 Says:

The run game did what it should have done against the worst run defense in the league. The backs were good today, but seriously saying that Tucker is all of a sudden a number 1 back on this team is ridiculous. You are also the same idiots that gave up on this team after the Denver game. How about looking at the big picture and stop couch coaching on a week by week basis.

  71. Saskbucs Says:

What a roller coaster. Good thing they got their act together, that 2nd quarter was painful.

Relax fellas, White isn’t going anywhere. The way this team has been struck by injuries this year, would be foolish to ship him unless the return was too good to refuse and that doesn’t happen for RBs. Ship White and Bucky gets injured…. Now what. Tucker and an undrafted rookie wouldn’t be a good look for the team.

Bowles… use your timeouts man! Could have had a FG before half potentially if you would have saved 20 seconds after the Irving run on 1st. Also… I like the blitzes but these delayed blitzes aren’t effective. So you disguise it great but by time the LB gets down there the QB has read the field and you have left the middle dump wide open. If sending heat send it fast as possible.

  72. Bartow Buc Says:

How about Baker Mayfield !! Passing and scrambling and blocking his way to

  73. Bartow Buc Says:

A Huge win for Baker Mayfield and the very talented Buccaneers !!! Go Bucs !!!!

    Let’s Go !!

  74. Tiff, Okla,Bake, Bucs 4 life Says:

Way 2 go BKer n Bucs!!! Amazibg n u only had 2 beat both the REFS N SAINTS NO SWEAT!!!!

  75. Defense Rules Says:

Joe … ‘Mayfield throwing 30 times in the first half was somewhat ridiculous when the Bucs’ run game was thriving.’

Is this the same Joe who on numerous occasions has stressed the need for the Bucs to THROW the ball to their play-makers and stuff the running game in a drawer?

Coen actually used a fairly BALANCED ATTACK from a numbers perspective (36 passes for 325 yds and 35 rushes for 277 yds). The big guys in the trenches were doing a great job pass blocking AND run blocking. Saints’ defense was ranked #8 before this game; now they should probably be around #33.

  76. Drunkinybor Says:

Off topic.. I read we won’t be wearing our pewter jerseys this season. Is this accurate and what are monday nights combo? If it’s white on white I may have a breakdown. I know its not that serious. I collect jerseys so it’s always of interest to me.

  77. Defense Rules Says:

Bonzai … ‘Sterling needs to go. He was horrible.’

Sterling made a couple of bonehead plays, but overall he was quite productive … 4 runs for 31 yds & 3 receptions for 23 yds. That’s almost 8 YPP average Bonzai. Personally I’d list him as WR#5, and we’ve needed him with WR#3 & WR#4 out. Inexpensive insurance policy.

  78. David Says:

    Winfield!!!!
    Whitehead!
    Welcome back

    Buck & Tuck !!!!
    (Trade White??)

Good to see RT and DT back.

Dominant other than a couple deflected interceptions, a punt return and some bad penalties. Vlean that up and this game is 60 to 17!!

  79. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

The Nawleans Stanks got Tucked, Bucked then Baked by our beloved Bucs. Couldn’t have happened to a better team!!!

  80. Simeon4HOF Says:

Still without power in N Tampa so Gene Deckerhoff it was. 2nd quarter sounded like a hurricane hot the Bucs. Cant wait to watch game live once Teco tightens up. Running game, Team went off today

  81. Jeff Says:

I was dead wrong about today’s game. Dead wrong.

  82. Tony Says:

This team has to be bipolar. One week they’ll show up then another week they do what they did against Denver then they have that game against Atlanta last week & now they do this against NO. Especially when they give up the 27 in one quarter.

  83. Noclu4u Says:

This is a very young football team that grew up some today . We still need an outside pass rusher ,psst Hassan Reddick wants out . Licht may have to consider Reddick after what we’ve seen so far . This team is very close to being a Superbowl contender. IMHO they close . They are still having to blitz to get to the QB . Bowles thought today he might be able to get there with their banged up shuffled O-line but couldn’t . He made the correct adjustments at half time . No that bad of a coaching job . Still doesn’t fire up his team but lucky for him this team is loaded with consummate professionals .
    As always Go BUCS 🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️

  84. Callahan 22 Says:

I really wish a QB’s interceptions started coming with asterisks. 1 asterisk for a ball tipped at the line of scrimmage and 2 asterisks if it bounced off of a receiver’s hands before being intercepted. That way if someone didn’t get to watch yesterday’s game, for example, they would know that only one of Baker’s pics was actually on him. Just an idea.
Been like that forever. Of Jameis Winston’s 30 picks in 2019, how many were on him? 23? Every quarterback deals with it, and sometimes there’s no clarity because fans don’t know understand the nuances of a route or the QBs decision-making process. –Joe
