Beating The Big Boys Gets Respect For Bucs

October 1st, 2024

Growing respect.

Boy, do the media types that reside in the Northeast sure like to slurp the NFC East.

The worst culprit may be NBC. The Peacock outfit just cannot stop shoving NFC East teams down innocent viewers’ throats. Yeah, Joe gets it. Eyeballs. Still, it is tiresome.

So Joe ran across a piece on CBS typed by John Breech. And then it hit Joe: Want respect from the folks who decide what you are supposed to watch and read and listen to? Slap around an NFC East team. Or even better, two NFC East teams.

Respect follows, warranted or not.

Breech graded this past weekend’s games and gave the Bucs an “A” for beating Philadelphia.

Apparently, Baker Mayfield just loves playing the Eagles. After throwing for 337 yards and three touchdowns against them in a playoff win last season, Mayfield was just as good this time around, throwing for 347 yards and two touchdowns. After the Bucs jumped out to a 24-0 lead, Tampa Bay’s defense pinned its ears back and did the rest. Lavonte David had his first multi-sack game since 2018. After an unexpected loss to the Broncos in Week 3, the Bucs bounced back with a big win over the Eagles and Tampa Bay currently looks like one of the best teams in the NFC.

Ah, so now the Bucs, just hours after curb-stomping the Eagles, are thought to be one of the best teams in the conference, eh?

Would Breech type that if the Bucs did the same thing to the Seahawks or the 49ers? Unlikely.

But beat up on a team (two teams, actually) from the NFC East and that will get you street cred.

John shat his Breech(es) over the Bucs!

I like that we are a small market and can sneak up on teams via the national media. I am sure the players’ and coaches know what’s up.

Go Bucs. Beat the other Dirty Birds!!!!!

  3. Permanently Moderated Says:

I just want the Bucs to play each game like it’s the most important game ever, because for them it is. Play hard and play to win. That’s how you gain and keep respect. They should have to watch the Broncos game every week if they need motivation.

  4. LakelandBuc Says:

    That’s just national media hype

The NFC East is total trash

  5. Bakerfan Says:

They will have a great shot at the Cowboys also. That team is a mess right now

  6. JC Says:

Maybe not necessarily national media but what’s up with the Bucs hate on Walter football.com? Refuse to grade many of their signings, esp. Winfield, lot of disrespect from Walt. Latest rankings cited injuries to Eagles as reasons for loss, not a mention of all the key players out for TB. Wrote “I am not impressed with the Buccaneers.” As Joe said, this team should only get better down the road as injuries heal.

  7. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

That’s a good media observation Jose.

  8. Brandon Says:

Consider this as well… it usually takes five games for a team to really start to mesh with a new offensive coordinator. Granted, they may be similar terminology and systems but it still takes time for players to learn system and coaches to learn players… but this team should be far better on offense after the Falcons game.

Yup, beating up the big market teams earns respect. Also, winning the nationally televised games like Thursday night will earn respect. All the national media types loved Cousins with the Falcons, and disrespected the Bucs. Good bulletin board material for the Bucs this week

  10. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

Just getting caught up, but that was Lavonte’s first multi sack game since 2018? Wow!

    HOF

They should just hand out the jackets now for 54 & 13.

Hard to believe I’m saying that as a life long hard road Bucs fan since ‘76. (Can since ‘74 when they announced we’d get an NFL team- hence my name).

Go Bucs – bury the birds!!

  11. Dave Pear Says:

The schedule is brutal but the Lions are probably still the best team the Bucs play and guess who won that one.

Stay aggressive on both sides, Todd.

Watch the Aints / Fowlclowns game from Sunday. Play like we did against the Beagles and we can beat them both. In fact Atlanta stole that game. Shaheed gave them a touchdown by inexplicably calling for a fair catch at his own three yeard line (!) and then muffing the punt (!!) and AInts ell on it in the endzone. Then they had a pick six off a deflected pass. Then they had a brain dead pass interference from an Aint that gave Koo the chance to drill his 58 yarder.

Falcons are very lucky to not be 0-4 right now since the Eagles also gifted tham a game.

Play like we did against the Eagles. Every . Game.

  12. Hodad Says:

Cowboys, and New York. Win both we sweep the whole stinkin division!

  13. Kenton Smith Says:

Ditto what Dave Pear says. Falcons should be winless. They and the Panthers should be in a dogfight for the cellar of the division.
