Baker Mayfield Reveals Halftime Message

October 14th, 2024

So Joe was mentally exhausted at halftime yesterday.

First, it was one of the longest first halves in team history, and the Bucs trailed the slimy Saints 27-24. Second, the halftime whistle after the Bucs bumbled and stumbled on their final drive of the first half, playing scared and mismanaging time.

Still, as Joe radically consumed mass quantities of overprocessed food, Joe had a good feeling that the Bucs could rebound. Why? Because the offense is so darn strong.

Baker Mayfield had the same vibe, so he explained on the Buccaneers Radio Network, where he revealed the halftime message.

“We came in and said, “if we just stop shooting ourselves in the foot, we’re going to roll this team,” Mayfield said.

And that’s what happened. The Bucs shut out New Orleans 27-0 in the second half.

Mayfield cited “grown men drives” late in the game and was a maestro with simple words when asked what worked so well with the Bucs’ punishing run game.

“I mean, everything,” he said.

    How sore is he today?

  2. BakerFan Says:

Mayfield is no good and Bowles can’t coach, but the Bucs win…. does that sum it up for the hardcore Bucs fans on this site. Geeze reading what you guys write makes me feel dumber each day. Pure genius.

  3. Gary Eddins Says:

No, Bucs are to inconsistent right now.

  4. Bucs Guy Says:

If you remove the punt return and the interception returned to just inside the 10 yard line, the Bucs defense gave up just 13 points yesterday. I especially loved the 2nd half shut out of the slimy Saints.

  5. Chief Says:

Baker is playing at an MVP level. His stats are great, but he is leading this team to be one of the best in the NFL. Yes 3 picks is not ideal, but only 1 of those was a bad throw. one hit Mcmillan right in the hands and the other was tipped at the LOS. Just unlucky on that one.
But when have you ever heard a QB having 3 turnovers yet still amassing 600 yards and 51 points……on the road…….against your main rival???

If not for a fluke Bucky fumble late against ATL we’re 5-1. We have a great chance to show how good we are the next 3 weeks.

We have a top 3 QB currently at a great price tag and a team that is starting to believe they can run this conference.

It’s a great time to be a BUC!!

    Bucs Guy,

Defense certainly played well in second half because they were supposed to play well against a rookie 5th round QB. First half they made it too easy and allowed the kid to get confident. Had a Bo Nix deja vu experience in first half. Best defense is always good pressure. Bowles unleashed the blitzers and it really paid off in the second half. Going to need a fulltime spy on Lamar. Have to keep him in the pocket and force him to throw under pressure.

Not sure we have anybody quick enough…

  8. Dave Pear Says:

Thank you Baker. Step in when and where the head couch doesn’t know how.

  9. richbucsfan Says:

It would be good to use a similar defense used against KC in the playoffs where he was hunted down like prey. That was a great defensive effort.

What’s up with Bakers “floating rib”

  11. Irishmist Says:

I want to give props to Luke for wearing the guardian helmet. I think the rest of the line should wear it too in a show of support. Also Mayfield and McCollum, they both have a tendency to lead with their heads.

  12. heyjude Says:

Baker is doing superb! He is humble, but honest. His statement is right on point.

  13. Hodad Says:

Big test Monday night. We’re going to see what the Bucs are really made of.

    ^^^^^^

I thought Baker could have been done for the season after that landing!!!!

  15. Boomer Says:

I love the punch back after a crappy 2nd quarter.
That said…. They’re going to have to start playing ALL 60 minutes of football to be taken seriously as a playoff and Super Bowl contender.
Defense: middle of the field is an issue.
Offense: consistency and catch the dang ball.

    We have the talent.
    We can beat Baltimore.
We can beat San Francisco, Atlanta and Kansas City if we eliminate the errors and play a full 4 quarters of football.

  16. Mr. Editor Says:

The Aints’ Granderson put a big hit on Mayfield at the end of the third quarter, and I thought that the season was over for him. Mayfield came back from that hit in a big way! Go Bucs!

  17. TampaRob Says:

I was one of the people calling for Bowles to be fired at halftime and, while impressed with the halftime adjustments, still think there are too many open receivers. If they were playing against any other team with an experienced QB and a true WR yesterday they would have been toast. Not knocking the W, but there are too many defensive breakdowns for a defensive genius.

  18. orlbucfan Says:

I would like to see how good the entire Bucs team would have been if the refs had actually done their jobs. They did a great job rattling the heck outta Tampa Bay during the second quarter. Kudos to Baker for not turning the ball over 5 times. He can’t complain against bought refs, but we fans sure can. Same with Bowles. Whatever went down at the half, Bucs came out poised and not rattled. If they come out with the same poise and purpose Monday nite, they have a very good shot at upsetting the NFL darling Ravens.🐦‍⬛

  19. Dave Pear Says:

Boomer said it. The talent is there. The mismanagement of it especially on defense is really disappointing.

  20. Callahan 22 Says:

Huge test Monday night against a team that is rolling. Bucs are ranked 10th in PFF’s power rankings. The Bucs have already defeated 3 teams ranked ahead of them, let’s make it 4 this Monday!

  21. infomeplease Says:

Remove the 2nd quarter from that game and the Bucs played a solid game. They still have starters that are on the injury report and add JD35 and ME13 now too. If the Bucs can get back to near full strength, they will be a tough team to beat.
The Ravens will be a really tough game on MNF! I look forward to it!

  22. infomeplease Says:

The team that controls the clock probably will win this one.

  23. Mike C Says:

“Remove the 2nd quarter from that game and the Bucs played a solid game. ” uhhhh that would be a little better than a solid game, as that is the quarter that the saints scored all of their points.

  24. Bucschamp Says:

Baker trying to block lattimore in buckys run is badass

  25. Let ‘em bake Says:

McMillan doesn’t have godwins hands… yet. He couldn’t handle that bullet baker hit him with. Regrettably, baker will file that, and not trust that route with McMillan anytime soon. You drop a dime, which becomes a pick, and I’ve doesnt throw that to you again….

  26. David Says:

51 points and ME13 and the rookie WR were barely involved. I am loving the new OC. They are only going to improve throughout the year. Different players stepping up on offense every week.
    Love it.

The score was closer than the game. A punt return, two tipped INT‘s that led to points, and a season high in penalties.

In the second quarter someone should’ve grabbed Sterling Shepherd and told him to calm his feisty azzz down. It was clear he was on the path to getting a personal foul. 😂

  27. Dave Pear Says:

If we removed all the losses from our record, we’d be undefeated.

If my aunt had…..she’d be my uncle.

    smh gtfo

  28. Dave Pear Says:

McMillan doesn’t have Kenny Bell’s hair either.

  29. KenFrom_Canada Says:

I so glad to read how others were mentally exhausted after that game. I watched it before going into a 12hr night shift. Mentally I felt like I had been awake for 24hrs after that game. Thought I was just being dramatic lol.

  30. Statguy Says:

I did the same thing Ken got off at 6am the next morning. This game was a treat

  31. BucU Says:

Good win despite the 2nd quarter debacle. You want more respect for this team from the fans then beat the Ravens. They’ve shown they can play a heck of a game when they want to. We’ve also seen after a big win the next game they don’t show up and get smoked. Beat the Ravens on Monday night and us doubting thomas’s just might start to believe this team can go far in the playoffs.

  32. Bucs4EverMore Says:

Things are Better with a Superb Running Game. Helps the Defense and Offense. Less Flags and Faster Play Will Give Us the Edge on Monday Night. Go Bucs.

  33. Lightningvinny Says:

Not expecting a win Mon night ,, just like Detroit game ,,, but if and it’s a big if , they do win ,,, then we can beat anyone ,, hell, win the next 2 games and the pundits may actually talk about us to win the division instead of the Falcons !
It’s funny , we took Cleveland’s Baker to make our team what it is and now Cleveland may be taking our JW to try and save their team,,, life is funny
