Baker Mayfield Not So Impressed With His Throws But He Is Impressed With His Receivers Catching Those Throws

October 2nd, 2024

Sunday at The Licht House, Baker Mayfield had a pass that if you didn’t know any better, you’d think it was thrown by the guy up in the FOX broadcast booth working as a commentator.

No, that wasn’t a Tom Brady rocket that Trey Palmer caught for a touchdown, it was a Mayfield missile. It was a perfectly thrown pass and it had to be, otherwise it would have been broken up or perhaps picked.

Instead, six points for the Bucs!

There were other stellar passes. Mayfield was asked if he sometimes impresses himself with throws like he had in the win over the Eagles. Not really, Mayfield replied. But what does impress him is how his receivers make plays.

“A little bit,” Mayfield said if he impresses himself with this throws. “More so on the concentration by our guys that are catching it.

“Some of those passes, there’s hands flying. … It’s kind of like the distraction drill that they work on. Truly, to me, it’s more impressive how they catch it and finish it.”

What’s a quarterback’s best friend (outside of a good offensive line)? Guys who can catch. Mayfield could be the most accurate quarterback in the world but if dudes can’t catch a cold, it doesn’t matter.

Joe think the Bucs demonstrated their depth at receiver Sunday — provided Kameron Johnson eventually shows he can catch.

    Mayfield is amazing.
Again, winning games with a practically non existent running game and TE contribution.

Don’t know how he’s doing it- But I’m loving it!

Baker is great. So is Todd. Go Bucs.

Baker and LVD need to keep giving the words of wisdom. Be a player driven team.

  4. Crickett Baker Says:

    Me too, Capt.

This is definitely the most impressive team we’ve had since 21 , and our Bucs aren’t even at full strength yet . A.W. Jr hasn’t played , C. K. hasn’t played a game yet , and hopefully we get our Pro Bowl caliber RT back soon. Bucs have beaten 3 really good teams without all those players . They are Super Bowl contenders now , can’t wait to see how great they are when healthy. Go Bucs 12-5 , a 4th straight division title , and a real good chance at a Super Bowl win 🏆

if we go thru this “meat and potatoes” stretch with flying colors…watch out…

we could shock the nfl and potentially float a 12 win season on these b!tches…

it’s early tho…let’s not get crazy…it certainly was a nice first quarter so far…and how fast is the denver game in the rear view after laying it on the eagles last sunday…

if we can only stay healthy and get healthy…good group…good locker room…like ME13 says, they really seem to be playing for each other…good stuff early on…get healthy, stay healthy…

and bucky really seems like the real deal out there…exceptional vision, weaving and cuts….

    go bucky go…
    run bucky run…
    score bucky score!

I’ve watched every single game of Bakers career, those throws aren’t all that rare. Hell go back and watch his first ever game vs the Jets in 2018, he arguably makes 3 of these throws on his first ever drive in the NFL after coming onto the field with less than 2minutes left due to Tyrod Taylor going down with a concussion.

Baker has always had a great relationship with WR3’s too (Higgins, Peoples-Jones and now Palmer), im yet to figure out why but i think it has something to do with WR3’s being exactly where they are supposed to be so it allows him to throw anticipation balls with insane accuracy.

Baker is awesome. He goes down and picks himself up. Always highlighting the good of others. Humble soul.

Capt. Tim – Loving Baker too!

Baker M continues to impress me simply cos he is a TEAM player, first and foremost. Licht and Bowles may have found him on the proverbial NFL scrap heap, but kudos to him. He always gives his fellow players credit, and he’s not afraid to criticize himself. Refreshing in this day and age.

    *kudos to them

Kam Johnson will be fine D-2 exposure now under the NFL big lights… I expect GREAT things from him as we move forward in the season. Baker is money and we will see that as well as we move forward with his new OC and the new twists of offense he’s bringing. GO BUCS

I love Bake also. Errr. Baker Mayfield sux!!! 😜 Now go hammer the dirty birds in Atlanta. Go Bucs!!!

Like Farmer I remember watching Baker’s first NFL game and being very impressed with his accuracy hitting receivers in stride.

Brady called a couple of Baker’s completions “average throws” Sunday. Rachaad White had a couple great catches on passes a little off. A few tips at the line, too.
