Baker Mayfield Chasing Elusive Three-Peat

October 13th, 2024

“Today’s the day, Kyle.”

So when’s the last time Baker Mayfield had three standout games in a row?

Joe’s done the research.

Looking at passing stats, turnovers (including forced fumbles) and wins, Joe is confident saying Mayfield didn’t play three high-quality games in a row last season for the Bucs. One could argue that happened in December during a Tampa Bay winning streak, but Joe can’t give the Atlanta road game to Mayfield last year; he completed 48 percent of his passes in that contest.

Joe has to go back to late in the 2020 season with the Browns to find Mayfield shining brightly for three consecutive games.

That’s a long time, and Mayfield has a chance to break that streak today.

Mayfield was dominant two weeks ago against the Eagles with 347 yards passing and two touchdowns on 3o-of-47 passing. Last week, he was very efficient in Atlanta. The Bucs, for the second week in a row, scored touchdowns on their first two drives. Mayfield finished with three TD passes, no interceptions and completed 79 percent of his passes.

The Bucs want standout consistency from Mayfield. It would represent the next level of his development at 29 years old.

Mayfield has had an MVP-caliber start to this season and leads NFL quarterbacks with 11 touchdowns (11 passing, 2 rushing). Today is his day to find three stud games in a row.

And there’s no better place to do it than in the slimy Saints’ crib.

A lot of help from the o-line will go a long way to help him.

  2. orlbucfan Says:

Coen is finding his rhythm with this offense now. He can open his playbook up and so can Bowles with some of the injured stars returning. How about a QB option rollout or a few other creative tricks? Aints won’t know what hit them.

  3. Proudbucsfan Says:

That would be fantastic, I was skeptical about baker when he first got here but he turned me into a believer. Baker Mayfield is our franchise Quarterback for the next 10 years + hopefully he takes us to multiple championships. Go Bucs 🇺🇸🏈

  4. PSL Bob Says:

With the team approaching full strength again (except for Barton), today should provide a good barometer of what this team is capable of. I’d be extremely disappointed if we didn’t come out of NO with a decisive win.

  5. Gipper Says:

    Joe,

Hate to correct the maestro but Baker this season has had 13 Td’s (11 passing and 2 rushing). Of course, that is better than Mahomes, Allen and most others in 2024.

It won’t matter how well this guy plays he can’t get respect from guys posting on joes Bucs let alone national media

If Baker gets just a little more O line help and continued improvement in running game, it will be impossible to ignore him. By the way who cares what the “national media” thinks? Those guys are just pompous windbags who repeat whatever the flavor of the day is. Few of them ever have an original thought.

  8. Fred McNeil Says:

He’s bound to look at least pretty good with a team that’s has had three extra days to plan and rest against a team that played a tough game on Monday night. They’re going to play the Broncos on Thursday night to put a cherry on top. Hmm. Maybe that makes them desperate today, but I doubt they win.

  9. SenileSenior Says:

I do not care as much about the national media as some representing our fans who post here. They don’t seem to let go of the losing years before Tom Brady, They thought we would revert back after the departure of the GOAT. Not this time!

Go Bucs! Make mincemeat out of the Slimy Saints!

  10. Tiff, Okla,Bake, Bucs 4 life Says:

BAKER WILL2PEAT LOL N BEYOND LOKOL

GO BUCS, GO BAKE WIN WIN BEAUTIFULLY!!

  11. Jake been there since the beginning Says:

These guys are about to get laughed out of New Orleans and very deservingly at this point. Did We Really Get Better? And penalties and another interception ? This needs to be looked into WTF are we going back to the playoff game wasting the clock with three timeouts left and 33 seconds in the first half.
