509 Yards

October 3rd, 2024

“I’ve seen that pass defense before!”

With former Bucs defensive coordinator Mike Smith in the birdhouse, the Bucs decided to give him a warm welcome by playing pass defense that would shame a Pasco County high school girls flag football team.

It gave Joe flashbacks to Julio Jones running through the Bucs defense as if they had 11 lawn chairs on the field.

Five hundred and nine yards passing. Five-motherflocking-hundred and nine yards! That’s what the great Kirk Cousins did to the Bucs defense tonight.

You like that?

There is no excuse for an NFL team to give up 509 yards in passing. None! Not when your weak pass rush can get four sacks. Good Lord, the Bucs wasted a miracle tonight. Logan Hall had two sacks. Logan Hall!

Five hundred and nine motherflocking yards. What, was Sabby the Goat playing safety?

Greg Schiano, Lovie Smith, Mike Smith. Those ex-Bucs defensive playcallers are nightmares that still give Bucs fans the shivers just reading their names. No good coordinator gets lit up for 509 passing yards. Yet that’s what Bucs coach Todd Bowles and his defense allowed tonight.

After the Denver debacle and this stain tonight, Joe doesn’t want to hear about how Bowles is a great defensive coordinator. Don’t want to hear about injuries.

How many NFL teams have injuries? They don’t give up 509 yards passing.

Somewhere in Atlanta right now, Mike Smith is toasting his friends with a cocktail, laughing at witnessing such heinous pass defense.

    YOU LIKE THAT!!!

  2. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Oh Todd Bowles and his candy azz defense

  3. EA Says:

That’s more like joe, that’s exactly what lost the game.

  4. Jacob Says:

Falcons scored zero offensive TD’s last week

  5. Bo the bucs fan Says:

Defense played too soft and lavonte David should have swatted the ball down instead of getting the INT

  6. Seattle Buc is back in TB Says:

They first defender always missed his tackle.

  7. Pryda30 Says:

I am depressed I thought we had that in the bag

  8. LVMYBUCS Says:

    Todd Bowles=Lovie Smith

  9. Miller5252 Says:

Can’t wait to see what lovie, sorry Bowles has to say

  10. Jeebs the Honey Bear Says:

This is the Todd Bowles we know and hate. Stubborn to a fault. Calling the same defensive plays over and over that are getting picked apart. And I guarantee you he told Liam to run the ball instead of letting Baker BAKE. I’ve lost all confidence in this clown.

  11. BUC CHEEKS Says:

    Gross

  12. Gbobucsfan Says:

    KJ Britt is a liability

  13. LVMYBUCS Says:

We could win 10 straight and I still wouldn’t have confidence in Bowles the dude is not head coach material.

  14. Leslie Opyd Says:

Tod bowles gos conservative and loses the game ! Doing what he always does . Awful coaching after a great interception ! What a waist . And the missed face mask . That was on purpose for the falcons .officials sucked on that .plain as day .

  15. Clay day Says:

Sad. This could be the end of their season. May be lucky to win 7 games at this point. The offense crapped the bed at the end of game…rather than getting a first down they choked, which lead to the tying FG. Even with the pathetic pass defense, they essentially had the game won, but the offense blew it at the end.

  16. dmatt Says:

JDeans is pure garbage. KJ Britt is just too slow n lost in space. We just allowed Kirk to have a field day. How the heck does mediocre receivers get so wide open all game long. I would like to see what cb TFunderburk can do in place of Dean. How bout Antonio Grier in place of Britt. Our defense is too passive.

  17. TombsEN Says:

This site is strictly a blog site and offers zero analysis…Bowles was down at one point 4 key defenders…if you look at the amount of plays this defense has played going back to DET you knew eventually it would catch up to them especially on a short week. 504 yards is bad but at least be fair to Bowles. This is a bad article and only feeds the trolls….

  18. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    TENNESSEE READY!!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

  19. Davenport Says:

I am not surprised. During the Bowles years, the Bucs have never been significantly over .500. He cannot sustain a winning team.

This team will win some, lose just about as many, finish 9-8 or 8-9, and maybe make the playoffs.

It’s a waste of time and talent to have him coach the team any longer. He is leading us nowhere.

  20. Seattle Buc is back in TB Says:

This was a great game. Would’ve been better if we won. But we were out played and out coached again. Like the Lions and Broncos games. Lee, this coulmn was funny as hell and sad at the same time.

  21. A Bucs Fan Says:

Bucs were limited in what they could call because of injuries to the defense. I said Sirvocea being out would be huge and that was the difference in the game for me.

  22. Hodad Says:

Like an insuffient tampon, we couldn’t stop the bleeding.

  23. Ol' Boy Says:

Giving 509 years to an old one legged white boy. Daaaam

  24. Miller5252 Says:

Bowles is the Jeff Fisher. Average at best. Team has the talent to be really good but has a horrible coach.

  25. BucsFan81 Says:

Well Joe you can start getting your draft articles ready here in about 4 or 5 weeks once we reach the bye week.

  26. VOT Says:

The D is why we lost really- even with coward play calling and the refs missing a blatant call – no one can overlook the absolute butt whipping they handed out D

Todd should be ashamed of himself and his entire staff – we were simply out coached AGAIN

  27. Nick Says:

They gave up 509 yards up in the game and 500 yards were passes right over Britts’ head. No adjustments at all, except on offense, who barely threw in the second half playing for field goals in a close game. What a freaking joke. Bowles should be on the hot seat after two embarrassing games this year.

  28. Rod Munch Says:

Injuries are an excuse, you can’t keep losing player after player after player and not think that is going to catch-up with you.

It seemed like Bowles played a ton of soft zone and the Falcons knew where the defense was going to be – but will have to review the tape to see, perhaps it wasn’t as soft as I thought.

Big props to KJ Britt for standing out on a night filled with garbage play.

But no need to address linebacker, nah, a backup punter is where a move needed to be made.

  29. Jack Sparrow Says:

Bucs defense is as soft as my charmin toilet paper

  30. Bring back the lawn chairs Says:

Yes, it’s time to bring back those lawn chairs fer sure! It’s a long season, and Walmart had a bogo special the other day! Don’t dilly dally they will sell out soon, and then we’ll be stuck with this same secondary💩.

  31. WiscoJoe Says:

Burn the tape and move on. Even during the Brady years we had horrific losses. We’re going to get healthy and get better. Don’t stop believing

  32. LakelandBuc Says:

I give Rah, OC Zach Robinson all of the credit, they came out with an excellent game plan. I thought they would run the ball all night. But they came out slinging the rock, they exploited our young secondary. You have to give credit when credit is due. They attacked our CBs, Linebackers and Safeties.

  33. Hearty Dikerson Says:

Bowles freely admits he wants nothing to do with the offense, even though he’s being paid handsomely as a HC. Ok, fine, we at least get an elite D for that, right? Great tackling..pass rush..run stopping..great communication..disciplined?.nope, we’re getting none of that

  34. MegaFailure Says:

and many more poor defensive performances to come

  35. LakelandBuc Says:

All of you so- called Bucs fans are harping on Todd Bowles. You have been hollering for Bucky, and too bench Rachaad. Well you got Bucky, and it was his fumble that gave the Falcons life. And took points and possession from us. His fumble kept us from icing the game.

Y’all wanted Bucky, you got what you wished for

  36. LakelandBuc Says:

    😭😭😭😭😭 Cry me a river

  37. Hearty Dikerson Says:

Bucky was a a rookie that made one mistake. Bowles has been in coaching for 30+ years and keeps making the same mistakes over and over

  38. Bosch Says:

So finally, Joe. You have figured our that the Bowel Movement stinks as a DC.

  39. LakelandBuc Says:

Yeah Bucky is a rookie, but these so- called Bucs fans been crying for the rookie to take the reliable vet position

Rachaad don’t fumble often, he don’t drop the ball often, he don’t miss many blocks. But these so- called fans wanna run him out of town for a rookie.

    That’s nothing but Stupidity

  40. Cobraboy Says:

    Depth matters.

  41. Kysbucs18 Says:

Bucs have to spend some first round talent on CBs that can catch. No NFL QB is worried throwing against that secondary. None

  42. Booger Says:

Mind blowing to me that Bowles just sat back and allowed COUSINS to carve them UP like THAT, even when KNOWING what his ‘numbers’ were this season against the blitz, etc. He had been MISERABLE. Just like NIXX.

  43. Ed Says:

Good teams come back after a loss, we’ll see what the Bucs do in the next game. The Falcons put up numbers this evening not because they are a great offensive team but because the Bucs gave them so many open passing lanes and missed too many tackles.

If Bowles can’t figure out how to get his players to stop an average offense than he needs to hire a defensive coordinator.

  44. Let em bake Says:

Take it easy Lee , I mean, Joe. Minus Winfield , and no interior speed, Bucs are vulnerable . Once whitehead went out, it was all but certain Kirk would do Kirk.

  45. Dave Pear Says:

Note to Jason Licht – you saw what we all saw. We know you’re not going to do anything drastic now. But — it’s time for some hard questions and serious discussions with your head coach, who is wasting the season. This is a pattern, too often repeated. BA didn’t blow games that were in the bag.

What’s the odds the Bucs come out in New Orleans flatter than a freshly Zambonied skating rink?

  46. Jason Says:

We have all had enough of Todd Bowles. What a defensive genius he is. He cannot motivate a fly to dog poop. Jamel dean is also terrible. Bowles needs to go period!! I’m glad Joe Bucs fan is calling him out. What a waste of talent on this team because they have a coach who the keep around because Tom Brady won a Super Bowl. The Glazers and Jason need to cut bait with soft as baby poop not very intelligent Todd Bowles. I have had it with being a Bucs fan. How is it we care more as fans than ownership does? There are a ton of very good young coaches out there that do not pretend to be offensive or defensive guru’s that can do a much better job the Bowles. At least show some emotion.

  47. Doolnutts Says:

My problem with Bowles dating to even Bruce Arians is that his defenses are always wildly inconsistent between average or abysmal. He doesn’t really add any value or do anything special you see from other great coaches. He might be loved but he doesn’t seem to inspire fight in the group and we have weird games like losing to Denver.

Glazers aren’t shy and don’t like mediocre I personally would be surprised if we didn’t let him go if we go 9-8 even with a playoff birth it’s very average which seems to be his theme.

I could see Liam taking over after the season if we keep playing offense like we have.

  48. Mac Says:

Bowles doesn’t care what we think. He will keep playing that sorry ass soft zone. I hate it. It never works and he goes to it all the time. Press your damn corners and take away those quick passes allowing the pass rush to get there. It is truly that simple. Not a Bowles fan. Hope they fire him at seasons end and Coen is our new head coach.

  49. Kenton Smith Says:

Lakelandbuc – I don’t think I give it to the rookie there either. And the rookie better know that he likely lost the game for us. I think he is a good kid though and he will learn his lesson from it. But if it happens again I’d be quick to alter his NFL career at Tampa. The lead and ready to punch it in for the win. A rookie mistake on steroids. But I hold Baker and Liam responsible for putting it in his hands in that situation. Red Zone passing on fire and somebody too weak kneed to throw to our veterans down there.
