“We’re Not Out To Try To Prove Everybody Wrong”

September 18th, 2024

Bucs coach Todd Bowles.

A lot of folks who make decisions for the Bucs were downright outraged last year and this summer with seemingly 90 percent of #NFLMedia coronating the Dixie Chicks as new kings of the NFC South.

That happened largely ecause they signed a 36-year old quarterback coming off an Achilles injury.

Many Bucs holding positions of power to one degree or another couldn’t believe it. The Bucs had won a Super Bowl with many leftovers still on the roster. The Bucs had won three straight division titles. What the hell are people looking at?

Well,  Todd Bowles was not one of those stomping his feet over the lowly predictions. Bowles knew the Bucs had a good team so long as he put them in position to win.

Today, Bowles waved off any talk that he is concerned with how #NFLMedia perceives the Bucs.

Bowles could give a rat’s rear end. He’s too worried about the Broncos.

“We’re not out to try to prove everybody wrong,” Bowles said of motivation for this season. “We’re out to try to prove ourselves right.

“You know, we’re hungry, we’re trying to win. Like I said, we’re trying to get to the playoffs and win the Super Bowl and nothing else short of that.”

So the way Bowles looks at it, players determine their own perceptions and storylines. Play good, win games and everybody will love you.

Play bad and lose? Well, then you’ll also get what you deserve. And players may not like it.

Todd Bowles played in the NFL. He knows you win on the field, not in the media. His players respect him more because he’s a former player.

  2. WiseCrack Says:

Sounds to me like the same he has the same mindset here as he did heading into the Detroit game.

What does he care about the past and or other things outside of the teams control?

Although Joe would have us believe this lack of, “fire” is bad news for the team who has the hardest schedule in the division.

    Youngry

  4. Alanbucsfan Says:

Broncos have a good Defense. Their offense is terrible. Bo Nix will struggle vs Bucs D
Bucs have far superior personnel on offense.
Hopefully, Bucs get a break on the injury bug this Sunday.
    Watch out for Payton shenanigans

  5. PSL Bob Says:

We may finally have our triumvirate in place for the long haul, Licht, Bowles, and Mayfield. The arrows pointing up like a woody in the morning!

  6. DS Says:

Sean Peyton will throw the kitchen sink with gadget plays

  10. Gipper Says:

I have actually seen worse RT play in the NFL than Schule. Baker mayfield was mauled by TJ Watt in Baker’s last game as a Cleveland Brown. TJ playing against a second string RT got to Baker about 9 times. In the press conference that followed the game, Baker didn’t put it on the fill in tackle saying he didn’t get any help from a tight end or a back that trying to chip. This was taken as a direct challenge to Browns coach, Kevin Stefanski. Next thing we knew Baker had a one way ticket to Carolina hell. Baker told the truth and that classless Browns organization sent him packing. Baker was the best thing that happened to the Browns and they punished him.

The Bucs better win Sunday with the schedule we have coming up. It gets a lot harder after this one until the bye. You have to win the games you are supposed to win.

F Sean Peyton, better known as butth0le lips

  13. unbelievable Says:

Really feels like Todd has come into his own as a head coach as of last year / this year.

  14. Bucs And Them Says:

I’d love to see us lay the wood to Payton & the Broncos to the tune of 42 – 3. Love to see him try the postgame handshake antics on Bowles he pulled on Koetter. Bowles would put him to sleep in a New Orleans minute.

  15. BuxfaninTX Says:

I’d rather have Klein than Skule in the game

  16. orlbucfan Says:

Man, don’t get me started about Cheatin’ Sean Payton. Still want to know why Denver hired him? They’re supposed to be a pretty classy outfit. I would just love a shutout Sunday. Reaching for the man, but so what?!

  17. orlbucfan Says:

Moon. This auto-correct is a headache!

Todd Bowles … “We’re not out to try to prove everybody wrong.
We’re out to try to prove ourselves right.”

Love the way Todd keeps everyone focused. Control what you can control, and be ready to adapt in the process. He does an excellent job of that IMO, as we saw in the Lions game.

  24. BillyBucco Says:

Sean P is definitely gonna have some trick plays ready.
I trust Bowels but it’s hard in a game like this for everyone on defense to NOT want to get theirs. We can’t overrun plays and be selfish. Plays like Sean Tucker had on the fake punt and he will NEVER get out of the doghouse.
Joe Tryon gets caught diving inside too often. Dennis lined up horribly on the 37 yard scamper by Gibbs. He was on the same side as David. Don’t get me wrong Im impressed with his game, but those are the type plays that prevent him from starting.
Somebody please tell me when we are gonna hear Logan Halls name called by an announcer in the game?
Let’s see how the Bucs play when favored by a lot.

  25. BillyBucco Says:

    39.5 is the over/under.
Bucs should score this by themselves.
Only reason it is so low is you can’t count it n more than 6 from Denver.

  26. KABucs Says:

Has Payton run any trick plays in the last two games? He can come up with as many gadget plays and call them as he wants, but can their offense actually run those plays effectively? Those could be turnovers for us. Having Detroit succeed on a fake punt as much different than Denver trying that stuff.
