The Bucs Really Miss Vita Vea And Calijah Kancey (Video Style!)

September 24th, 2024

Please come back.

There is only one word Joe can think of when watching this attempt by the Bucs defensive line to get pressure on Broncos rookie quarterback Bo Nix.

That word would be “sorry.”

A cleaner pocket you may not find. Chris Braswell seemed to spook Nix a little coming from Nix’s left side, but he didn’t come close to Nix.

The right side of Nix’s line? Well, Nix could have ordered a plate of wings from Hooters and not have been bothered.

At one point Denver guard Ben Powers just stood there. Didn’t even move toward the end of the play and he had Greg Gaines totally locked up.

Anthony Nelson is a nice player coming off the bench. But as Joe has typed for a couple of years now, physical teams take him out too easily. Having him run a stunt inside is pretty much a waste of time and a misuse of his skillset.

Logan Hall, what’s the point?

Just a sorry effort by the Bucs’ defensive line against Denver.

Thanks to Evan Closky of WTSP-TV Channel 10 for posting this.

  1. Buc4evr Says:

D line was pathetic. Never got close to Nix. Left the secondary on an island. They should be ashamed of themselves. Then again we knew that Hall and JTS were not NFL quality players and the Bucs refused to do anything about it.

  2. Upstate NY BUC Says:

Logan Hall was dogging it on a few plays, one play he literally stood there and watched then realized it wasn’t over and dogged it again to make it look good!!! Worthless.. Nelson is definitely a nice back up at least he tries???? Go Bucs

  3. Lakeland Says:

Well, the backups are doing more than the stars on the sidelines, looking good, and smelling good!

    The best ABILITY is AVAILABILITY

  4. DS Says:

When is CK coming back? It’s been too quiet for me

  5. BucU Says:

I want to know if Kancey is practicing this week. This is ridiculous with this guy.
If he was a horse he’d be put down by now.

  6. SlyPirate Says:

    Kancey Permanent Vacation

Get drafted in the 1st. Get a 4-year contract. Damage “soft tissue” and convince Licht, “Don’t rush his return.” Rarely play. Retire healthy. It’s brilliant.

  7. Booger Says:

💯 on that damm headline. Could not be anything more true than that!!!!

  8. Hearty Dikerson Says:

Aside from Vea, all our d-linemen seem incredibly weak. None of them ever overpower their opponents. And none of the guys we’ve drafted have gotten any stronger over the years. Is that a strength and conditioning problem? A drafting problem?

Also, paying Nelson and Gaines $5M each is a complete overspend.

  9. SlyPirate Says:

    2024 QUARTERBACK HITS (OLB)
    1. Braswell
    2. Yaya
    3. JTS

Come on Braz. We need one OLB to show up.

  10. Lakeland Says:

They always have something bad to say about JTS. I rather have 53 JTS on my team than any of these bums.

JTS has played 5 different positions on this defense
He’s a team player, do what the coach ask of him

And he has NEVER missed a game in his 4 year career

  11. heyjude Says:

Watching this again is depressing. Bo using his legs and all the time in the world. Hopefully, Kancey’s calf and Vea’s knee are getting better soon.

  12. JustVisiting Says:

Thirty years ago, +I+ might have managed to duck under someone’s arm and get more penetration than that.

  13. JustVisiting Says:

Well, probably not, but you get my point.

  14. Pewter Power Says:

It’s mindset not play. We were beat like this last year with Kancey and Vea fully healthy. WE SAID IT AFTER WEEK 2 so don’t anyone try to use the injuries as an excuse especially up against Denver. If we were playing the eagles or any other better team ok fine. By not adding competition in the draft licht was saying he’s fine with Logan hall as a starter. We went out and drafted a tight end why? That was just a homegrown arse whooping.

  15. Brevard Buc Says:

    Calijah Kancey = Brian Price

  16. JB47 Says:

Braswell gets decent push. Gaines is nothing but a run defender. Nelson beats the tight end quick but then runs into 3 linemen blocking with no where to go. You cannot expect hall to essentially beat the center left guard and tackle. Once Nelson beats tight end the line adjusts perfectly. Based off the play call the rush is predicated on braswell and Gaines winning their 1 on 1 matchup.

  17. Badbuc Says:

Spread the blame guys. Offense couldn’t go. D on the field all the time in the heat and humidity. Depleted secondary. Strange people find reasons to blame a few players for a loss when we didn’t score. Teams win games.

  18. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

Kancey. Kancey. Hmm. Heard the name but am not really familiar with him. Is he a football player?

  19. Mike Johnson Says:

Usually, a team has one good quarter, Our Bucs sucked for 4 quarters. Nix was signing autographs and eating cheesesteaks back there. My wife said, Gosh, that Denvers QB’s jersey is sparkling clean. I was so pissed. I just replied, Honey would you prepare me another shot of tequila?

  20. StormyInFl Says:

Will Princess Calijah finally attend the ball????

  21. Joe Says:

    Brian Price

Man, the Brian Price thing was so friggin’ sad. Joe saw him at practice before his major injury and the dude was a one-man wrecking crew. He was like Warren Sapp on roids. Dude was everywhere. Blasting quarterbacks, catching dudes from behind downfield. smh

Damn shame what happened to him.

  22. Ed Says:

Bucs need to play Kancey this week even if limited snaps, put him in there!

Eagles are down 3 WR. Basically they are now a running team with Barkley and Hurts carrying the load. When they pass, its going to be to Goddert who will have to be double covered. Hurts has no other targets that the Bucs need to double.

We will see if Todd Bowles can plan to get his defense to play against these wounded Birds. This is a statement game for the Bucs. Tom Brady is back to announce and they have to be sky-high after last week.

They have to get the offense on track. This is a strong team offensively if they spread the ball around, run it with Bucky and give Mayfield a pocket. If the Eagles whip up on the guards, the Bucs need to put Klein and Kief into the rotation to help out the protection schemes.

We have played the Eagles 3 or 4 times the past couple of seasons so no surprises. This one is on coaching and a solid game plan to disrupt Barkley and Hurts. Run stoppers needed on Sunday!

  23. pelbuc Says:

You can’t miss what you don’t have. Porcelain doll Kancey is a bust until he starts playing and makes plays. Vea plays 60% of snaps. Bucs have no DTs and no edge rushers yet we paid a king’s ransom for Evans, Winfield and Wirfs. How’s that working out?

  24. Lol Says:

53 JTS’s would not beat a college team. Thanks for the laugh Lakeland. LOL

  25. CChead Says:

Calijah Glascey is someone you might as well not ever expect to play significant time. This D-line is a joke. Licht sh8t the bed putting this together. IMO

  26. Badbuc Says:

Regarding weak D line I watched the center of the D line have two goal line stands trying to get through the middle with 2 or less yards to go. They held up and then ran outside for a score.

  27. Lakeland Says:

    Lol,

At least you’ll have 53 players you can depend on every week

Players that actually get on the field and PLAY

    Lol

  28. David G Says:

Agree with most people on this! Kancey is always hurt! We need to start going through free agency for pass rushers because everybody we draft either sucks or is on the injury list all the time!!!

  29. pelbuc Says:

Licht is way overrated. His small college Oline crap is wearing thin. His penchant for re-signing players to keep the band together is not working. He hasn’t signed an edge (that can produce) since JPP and his drafts are average at best. Brady brought in the alpha dogs necessary to take the next level. This team is soft!!!. Just like its coach.

  30. Defense Rules Says:

Hearty Dickerson … ‘Aside from Vea, all our d-linemen seem incredibly weak. None of them ever overpower their opponents.’

B-I-N-G-O Hearty. Aside from Vea, none of them can even win 1 v 1’s. Gives the QB all day to survey the field, wait for a target to come open. Just pitch & catch after that. Comparison stats after just 3 games …

    o Bucs: 164 plays (69 rushes – 82 passes – 13 sacks)
    o Opponents: 203 plays (85 rushes – 116 passes – 2 sacks)

    o Bucs: Passing (61-of-82 … 74.4%) – 637 yards
    o Opponents: Passing (77-of-116 … 66.4%) – 701 yards

    o Bucs: Rushing (69 runs for 273 yards) – 4.0 YPC
    o Opponents: Rushing (85 runs for 413 yards … 4.9 YPC)

    o Bucs: 7 TDs (6 pass – 1 run) … 5 FGs … 64 points
    o Opponents: 6 TDs (0 pass – 6 run) … 7 FGs … 62 points

    o Bucs: 1st downs: 53 (pass: 35 – run: 11 – penalty: 7)
    o Opponents: 1st downs: 66 (pass: 31 – run: 29 – penalty: 6)

    o Bucs: 3rd/4th down conversions: 14-of-36 (38.9%)
    o Opponents: 3rd/4th down conversions: 19-of-47 (40.4%)

Bucs are holding their own across the board despite the brutal last game. The thing that jumps out at me though is the very low number of plays that we’ve run … only 164 plays in 3 games. Projected over a season that’d be 929 plays. FAR BELOW what we’ve been running in past years.

What also stands out offensively is that our run game isn’t contributing much (1 TD rushing out of 7 TD total, and that was by our QB). Denver turned the dogs loose on our passing game & neutered us. Every team from now on will attempt to do the same … UNTIL that stops working. Our OLine crapped in their pants last game; now it’s time for them to clean up the stinky mess that they’ve made.

Our defense is much too ‘light’ for the modern-day NFL, and especially without Vea. Most of our DLinemen are being blocked by OLinemen who outweigh them by 30-50 lbs. Where’s the beef?

  31. Zoocomics Says:

Boy do I miss old man Suh right now. I won’t say his contract with Miami was a great investment for that franchise, in fact, I think it set them back, but everything after it was a steal given how durable of player he was. He was an ironman, was never a liability and he didn’t miss a game as a Buc. Not sure how many recall, and honestly, we might not know all the details of whether or not Suh really wanted to come back to the Bucs, but we as fans got the impression that we signed Akiem Hicks over him in 2022, because Hicks was cheaper and we were hoping for the same run defense results except more pass rush from Hicks. Hicks could not stay on the field.

Kancey…back-to-back years AS A YOUNG MAN no less can’t get on the field to start the season. smh. Let’s hope this all just a blip in what we hope is long successful career.

  32. WiseCrack Says:

The narrative of him “always” being hurt is INCORRECT.

Can’t even really say OFTEN hurt at this point.

What we can say is he is always hurt to start the season and often times WE THINK he would have made a difference.

Is he a DIFFERENCE maker. Well I’m not sure we can say that. HOWEVER, he would be an upgrade.

Vita has the track record of being a difference maker with limited playing time. The two are not one and the same.

Get Veta back. Other guys are replaceable till otherwise proven.

  33. BucU Says:

I’m assuming Kancey has not been able to do any cardio in all this time he’s been hurt with the calf injury. So when he comes back how many games until he’s productive? He’s finally being called out by more fans now wondering just what the heck is going on with this guy. I thought we hit a homerun with this guy.
As of 9/24/2024 that’s not the case.

  34. SenileSenior Says:

So the tradeoff during our draft first round pick was between a center and a defensive end/outside linebacker?

  35. Mike C Says:

This team is missing some BIG time players with these particular injuries, very young team, very hungry Denver team with a good head coach, hopefully young guys learned a lesson and we can right the ship moving forward.

  36. drdneast Says:

That’s pathetic and nauseating. We have two high round draft picks that a girl scout could block. Man up you sissy men.

  37. Will Says:

Our D lineman have no 2nd move all they know is bull rush and if that doesn’t work just keep trying to push the oline back. Where’s the spin moves, dip under, or something it’s simply pitiful that we can’t get any pressure on a QB. I’m tired of hearing about CK dude is brittle until proven otherwise. Vea can’t stay healthy and when he is he can only play about 55% of the snaps. SMH
