“Tampa Bay Is Telling You They’re For Real”

September 16th, 2024

Linebacker SirVocea Dennis tackles QB Jared Goff yesterday.

So good-guy Logan Ryan lives in Tampa and played defensive back for the 2022 Buccaneers.

He didn’t pick the Bucs to win yesterday.

Ryan recapped his feelings prior to the game yesterday during his co-hosting gig on SiriusXM NFL Radio this morning.

In short, Ryan didn’t think the Bucs matched up well against the Lions because of injuries to Antoine Winfield Jr., and other health question marks in the secondary. And from first-hand experience, Ryan knows the Bucs have edge rush issues.

Ryan picked the Lions to win, and he’s damn impressed by how the Bucs proved him wrong.

“And I think the Bucs out-toughed Detroit, who lives on grit,” Ryan said.

“Todd Bowles lives on pressure and gettin’ after it. And the Bucs can’t run the ball but defensively they’re tough. They have a bunch of backups in there and they pretty much hold Detroit [to 16 points] on the road. That’s a statement win by Tampa Bay. Tampa Bay is telling you they’re for real with that win.”

Joe agrees with Ryan. The Bucs did “out-tough” Detroit, which is damn impressive.

Ryan knows plenty about tough after winning two Super Bowls with the Belicheats and playing in the AFC title game with Mike Vrabel’s nasty Titans defense. Ryan also was named a Giants captain after he left Tennessee.

That’s no hot take. The Bucs are a mentally and physically tough team and they are more than just for real.

Yeah I sat down to dinner last night and thought “ we just physically kicked their butts”. We’re a good team getting better. We’ll lose some games this year. But not many.

  2. Dre Bucsfan! Says:

After yesterday, knowing it’s super early still in the season but man good football is good football and my BUCS ARE BALLINGGGGG.

  3. Lakeland Says:

I think the running game will improve, and be hitting on all cylinders before mid season. There’s 2 new starters on the O-Line, yesterday there was 3.

  4. Citrus County Says:

Chris Godwin is a very good problem to have. Surely Jason won’t let him walk openly into the arms of a suitor willing to pay an enormous amount of money for him at the end of the season. So, before the talk of enormous sums begin, I hope he extends Chris soon. Perhaps a new contract for Chris could (and likely would) work in favor of the cap. For all us long time fans we are witnessing days long unimaginable. It certainly appears that we are headed to a very good result this year but just wait until next year when all the dead cap money is gone and the young players develop. It appears to me that we now have a good 3 year window.

If only Braswell could light off like Izien did.

  5. Rob in Land O' Lakes Says:

If this team gets healthy on offense (Goedeke), the running game will come, even if it’s Bucky or Tucker. Can you imagine what they could do with a pass rush? Like the secondary, someone has to step up to complement Yaya and Kancey.

  6. A Bucs Fan Says:

Hey @Joe and fellow Bucs fan check out Barton take LB Anzalone for a ride. It’s his Blindside moment.

  7. HC Grover Says:

Plan 9 and Plan 8 were on it.

  8. Erik.hesson@gmail.com Says:

    I’m very concerned about Goedeke.

It’s pretty rare for a big tough guy life him to have a concussion.

Hopefully, he comes back soon and it’s not a done forever situation.

  9. Erik.hesson@gmail.com Says:

    *like him

    Great game yesterday, though.

Game balls all around (emphasis on balls Lol)

  10. Travis Says:

Licht has put together a pretty great roster almost all of it homegrown talent outside of Baker. I really love this rookie class we got Graham Barton, Tykee Smith, Jalen McMillan, Buck Irving etc.

  11. Allbuccedup Says:

The Bucs look good they need to keep it up because the Saints look good also. Looks like a two team race Canales and Rah Rah are going to have a long season. Canales probably won’t survive this year because of unstable owner of the Panthers.

  12. Larrd Says:

Rachaad White should’ve third down back. Irving and Tucker should split carries on first and second until one starts breaking some runs.

  13. LakelandSteve Says:

That defense was flying around yesterday. Dennis, Tykee Smith, Zion McCollum and last but definitely not least the two safeties Jordan Whitehead and Christian Izien were impressive in the win.

  14. SlyPirate Says:

    IT’S KILLING COEN & OL
You know the lack of running game is killing Coen and the OL. They openly acknowledged their last place finish all preseason. They’re bad, again. Expect vast improvements in Denver.

  15. infomeplease Says:

The Bucs are showing you that they have the quality depth at many positions. And they can play tough/physical ball. Something the better teams always do! So far so good!

  16. orlbucfan Says:

Citrus Co., agree with your comment. Man, do I hear ya about us longtime fans “witnessing days long unimaginable.” I’m still mentally shaking my head over yesterday’s win. The Bucs were the better coached team, and outplayed a healthy, elite, playoff caliber team in that team’s home crib. Simple facts. I’m sticking to my one game at a time philosophy. It’s healthier, for me anyway. LOL.

  17. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

Agree that the run game will vastly improve Sunday IF the Donkey returns.

The Glazer family should take a bow. They were green in NFL terms when they bought the team but have clearly learned from mistakes and accrued experiences. There was a time when they seemed to lack patience and seemed desperate. When Bill Parcells pulled the rug out from under them one could sense that we had little hope of long term stability. The Glazers have now accomplished the seemingly impossible.

By the way, I followed your lead in listening to radio broadcast. No longer will I support the NFL or networks.

Citrus County … ‘If only Braswell could light off like Izien did.’

Just about everyone predicted that it’d take half a season for him to get comfortable out there & start strutting his stuff. And that seems to be about the way it’s working out.

Chris got 25 def snaps in Game 1 & another 18 def snaps in Game 2. Not unlike how YaYa started off last year (26 def snaps in Game 1 & another 23 def snaps in Game 2).

Certain defensive guys came up BIG in Sunday’s game. We had FIVE guys play all 85 def snaps (100%): Dean, McCollum, Izien, Whitehead & LVD. We had another 3 players get over 60 def snaps (over 70%): Greg Gaines (66 snaps – 78%); YaYa Diaby (65 snaps – 76%); JTS (60 snaps – 71%). In most games, that number of def snaps would be close to 100%. Those guys played their hearts out. Huge kudos!

  20. Citrus County Says:

I have waited for this since 1976. I forget what year we made the playoffs for the first time (80’s) and then misery for 2 decades.

We are now a well coached, well managed team that drafts well also.

    GO BUCS !!!

  21. Paratrooper Buc Says:

    Defense Rules –

I always appreciate your takes, stats and analysis. Thank you for those. I totally agree that Braswell will come along with more snaps and he goes from learning to knowing by feel where he needs to be in a play. Just like Zyon went from what I thought was a rough rookie year to now. I hope JTS is able to make a leap after all the time and energy. Some are ready day one like Winfield Jr but he had his dad but others take time.

    Kyle Pitts is a bust.

Just not explosive on the NFL level.

    It was all Trask.

  23. adam from ny Says:

if my bucs are so dam tuff…then they will wallop payton’s broncos on sunday…

  24. adam from ny Says:

    @Citrus County :

best run organization in football right now

  25. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:

Cousins stole a win in Philly.

    Atlanta stays alive.

  26. CalBucsFan Says:

Baker and the offense were firing on all cylinders and the defense played a great game, revenge was sweet.

However, I kept waiting for Geoff to go deep the whole game and it just never happened. Even their last two possessions at the end of the game on the Bucs side of the field and he kept throwing dink passes short of the sticks, let alone downfield. Strange, thanks Geoff, but definitely strange.

  27. Defense Rules Says:

Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan … I didn’t get to watch the whole game, but I thought Atlanta played tough in what did see. That’s the type of game that can really instill confidence in a team (Falcons’ defense holding the Eagles to a FG with less than 2 minutes left, then the offense taking it down the field for a TD with only a few seconds left to win it.

What scares me about BOTH those teams is that they run the ball so well. Eagles got 186 yards on the ground on 37 rushes (5.0 YPC), while the Falcons added another 152 yards rushing on 28 runs (5.4 YPC). Those are concerning numbers, since both teams have solid OLines, and our DLine is getting more & more chewed up with injuries.

  28. Defense Rules Says:

Paratrooper Buc … Those 3 defenders you mentioned (Braswell, JTS & McCollum) all had a very good game Sunday. Braswell didn’t get to play all that much on defense (18 def snaps out of 85 total def snaps in the game), but he did get 1 QB hit & also got credit for 1 solo tackle.

JTS played 60 def snaps (71%) and got credit for 1 TFL and 3 tackles (2 of them solo). And Zion had a beastly day IMO: played all 85 def snaps & was credited with 6 tackles (all solo) plus 4 PDs (that’s HUGE).

Still, I think there are 2 unsung heroes on defense who aren’t getting enough credit for what they contributed Sunday. One is Greg Gaines: who played 66 def snaps (78%) and contributed 2 QB Hits plus 1 solo tackle. The other is Anthony Nelson: he was only on the field for 25 def snaps (29%), but he made them count with 3 QB Hits plus 2 tackles (1 solo). He also played ALL 26 S/T snaps Sunday. So Gaines & Nelson together got HALF (5) of our 10 QB Hits in the game. That’s impact.

  29. BucU Says:

Someone want to ask Kancey when he plans on earning his paycheck?
What a pathetic start to his “breakout” season. Soft af.

  30. Stanglassman Says:

I always learn something new on the JBF comment section. Big tough guys don’t get concussions and people that get soft tissue injuries are soft AF. Lol

  31. Jeffrey Becker Says:

logan ryan probably thought his departure was far less significant than it was in reality haha
